  • The CYMCAP software is dedicated to the calculation of ampacity and temperature rise calculations for power cable installations. The accuracy of the software provides increased confidence when upgrading power cable installations and designing new ones; maximizing the benefits from the considerable capital investment associated with them. It also helps increase system reliability and supports the proper utilization of the installed equipment.
    Features
The CYMCAP software is dedicated to performing ampacity and temperature rise calculations for power cable installations. Determining the maximum current power cables can sustain without deterioration of any of their electrical properties is important for the design of electrical installations.
It addresses steady-state and transient thermal cable rating as per the analytical techniques described by Neher-McGrath and the International Standards IEC 287© and IEC 853©.
This software was developed jointly by Ontario Hydro (Hydro One), McMaster University and CYME International, under the auspices of the Canadian Electricity Association.
The validation of the results obtained with the CYMCAP software provides increased confidence when upgrading existing power cable installations and designing new ones, thus maximizing the benefits from the considerable capital investment associated with them.

Dear Sirs, first of all I would like to thank you for the material you provide, it is very useful.
I would like to know what is the best way to determine the Ampacity of a circuit assuming that it works under a Cyclic Load (previously defined in the Load menu). In my case I work with the Equally Loaded option in the Steady-State Analysis Menu and with the Transient Analysis option selected.
Then I introduce a temperature of 0º C and a Load Factor of 1.00 in the circuit whose Ampacity I want to determine in the Installation Data menu and in the Assign load to cable Menu. Then I enter the Specific Installation Data and finally in the Transient Data menu I select option 1 Solve Ampacity Given Time and Temperature.
In this menu is where I have all my doubts, I don't know what difference there is between introducing the maximum temperature that the conductor can withstand (let's suppose 90º C) in the Desired Common Temp. box (deg.C) or in the Desired Temp. box (deg.C).
On the other hand, I have made several simulations and depending on the study interval that I enter in the Time Required box, I get different ampacity values...
I also don't understand if it is useful to introduce a Scaling factor (I get the same ampacity values independently of the Scaling Factor I introduce).
Could you tell me what is the right way to determine the Ampacity of a circuit under Cyclic Load independently of the time I enter in hours in this menu?
Where should I indicate the maximum temperature that the conductor can withstand so that the software can determine the ampacity correctly?
I hope you can help me. Thank you in advance

Should we use loss factor (installation specification) of 0.3 for DC thermal analysis?

Good afternoon, do you have a reference cable with the characteristics of prysmian 18/30 kV? Or will there be a video where I can assemble a cable with these characteristics: 18/30(36)kV XLPE-TR 90° RHZ1-OL (Buenas tardes, tendrán algún cable de referencia con las características de prysmian 18/30 kV? o habrá algún video donde pueda armar un cable con estas características: 18/30(36)kV XLPE-TR 90° RHZ1-OL)

Good evening, thanks for answering, I am attaching a link to the files that I have used as a model or guide (Annex I) and images of my progress in the program, as well as how the installation would be (in ducts), the idea It's knowing if the driver would be fine, what I've been modeling.
