Location
1. Kursi is the place where two demon-possessed men were healed.
2. The demons who lived in these men were cast into a herd of pigs that ran down a steep bank into the sea.
3. It took place on the east side of the Sea of Galilee in the region of the Gerasenes or Gadarenes. This place was also called Kurshi in Hebrew and Kursy in Arabic.
4. It was in the region of the Decapolis.
5. The Decapolis was made up of 10 Roman cities that functioned like city-states. It was a region outside of Jewish authority and inhabited by Jews and Gentiles.
6. It was an immoral area that represented all that sinful humanity had to offer. Therefore, it was considered unclean to the Jews.
7. The caves where the demon-possessed men lived can be seen on the hillside above Kursi.
8. Today, this site contains the ruins of the largest Byzantine monastery complex in Israel. It dates from the middle of the 5th century and was built to commemorate what took place here.
Historical Background
1. Jesus and His disciples were coming from the Capernaum area, where Jesus had just performed many miracles and preached about the parables of the kingdom.
2. On the boat ride to this area, Jesus performed an astounding miracle of calming the sea and storm.
Matthew 8:23-27: And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. And they went and woke him, saying, "Save us, Lord; we are perishing." And he said to them, "Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?" Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. And the men marveled, saying, "What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?"
3. This event is the most detailed account of an exorcism (casting out demons) in the Bible.

This was the first Christian church in the world, and grew so much in the first few centuries that it was replaced with this Basilica sometime before the fourth century, AD, making it the largest organized Christian congregation for the first few centuries. It has a monastery associated with it, in which numerous monks copied texts by hand. Such was the power of personal testimony by someone "on fire" for the Lord.

And the pig's represents unclean spirits and 2,000 represents how many years when Jesus return and the sea represents the abyss, so the PARABLE answer is when Jesus returns in 2,000 years he will torment the unclean spirits by throwing them in the abyss

Thank you for sharing this video. I just wanted to share my thoughts on this, hoping it will help us to broaden our understanding of this passage.
To fully understand this passage, we need to read the sequence of events happening in the book.
1. Here we read of Jesus delivering a man who is totally in bondage and unable to free himself. 2000 pigs died in the lake.
2. Then we read about a woman who had been bleeding for twelve years (twelve is important). She was walking through the crowd, pressing on both sides, and Jesus healed her. Mark 5:25
3. Jesus raises a dead young girl who was twelve years old (again, twelve is important). Mark 5:42
4. Then Jesus fed thousands of people in the wilderness. Twelve baskets of food were collected (again, twelve is important). Mark 5:43
5. Then Jesus was transfigured and met Moses and Elijah. Then, after coming down the mountain, Jesus talked about a rebellious nation. Mark 9:2
But this time, you know Jesus was reliving the Exodus story that happened many years before his time here.
Though this passage has its immediate context, it is good to know the bigger context, which is often mind-boggling.

Thanks for your question. I used a screen capture software called, "Movavi Screen Capture." I then zoomed using Google Earth.
@@HolyLandSite Was trying to figure out which program you was using because the photo looked so crisp and clear when zoomed in. Like in high rez mode.

Remember the German girl, Anneliese who was possessed by demons ? The preachers couldn't save her and the reason for that is probably because they called upon The Virgin Mary; this is tragic, that girl went to her grave full of those demons. The preachers may have had disbelief in their hearts as well.
I like these videos but there are way too many commercials and too long as well, not sure if this is a fundamental source of income otherwise I encourage you to pray about taking them away, they take away much ... its hard to be clicking the commercials away every couple of minutes! Elisa Bella ; What made me stop eating anything pig was that oneday I read an old book called 'The Evil Eye', it talked of some Voodoo people performing their ritual and magic and then afterwards they would feast on alcohol and pork. My partner is an Atheist and he won't eat pig because he believes it is the closest animal meat which is like humans. Interesting isn't it ? In The Koran , The Muslim's are told not to eat pork because if they do, they will take on the characteristics of the pig. This might be a little far fetched because many of us eat chicken and we don't trot around pecking at the ground.
Piggery business went bankrupt and the owner became despondent and chided Jesus Christ. He went to court but to no avail. He was confronting God.

2000 pigs run into a lake and drown, food for thought. Today Texas has a pig problem with large herds running wild. Large feed lots smell real bad, so my question is in a land where pigs are looked down on as dirty and sinful where did Jesus find 2,000 pigs in one spot to cast demon souls into? Think about the amount of feed to feed a herd of 2,000 pigs would be. Also for a second time Jesus cast out the evil possessions of man and pigs suffered the same fate of drowning. This is a logistical question not a religious question. The amount of land and feed to take care of 2,000 pigs not to mention water might be difficult in a desert-like area. I understand all the reasons why people back then might be fearful of eating pork and all the diseases pigs have been responsible for. I'm only wondering where Jesus found 2,000 pigs to cast demonic souls into, not if the story is true or false. A afterthought if Jesus didn't own the pigs what would be the punishment for killing someone else's pigs?
