- Greg and Finn battle through Rocky Mountain snow to get to their off-grid teepee for a relaxing overnight expedition.
Greg is a self-taught survivalist from Canal Flats, British Colombia, who, since he was a boy, has read nearly every book on the topic. When he is not out in the wilderness, he is a professional dry-waller. He started his first bow drill fire when he was thirteen and spent the next forty years learning bushcraft and studying plants and edibles. He has even developed some of his own survival techniques and is a skilled hunter with both a bow and a slingshot.

Finn has sure grown into a strikingly handsome & intelligent boy... cracked me up watching him stare intently at the stick as if hypnotizing it to be picked up and thrown again... he reminds me of all 3 of my beloved GSs'growing up & as an adult: Samboy, Blitz, aka, Blitzer (Samboy's son) and Sosa, aka Sosie... GSs are by far my favorite breed and by watching Finn it reminds me of cherished memories...🦋

I always thought tipees were cool. Im Native American ( Navajo) my tribe didnt use them. We used Hogan like a mud house with wood. Cool to see Greg. I enjoy your vlogs. I learn so much. Finn is so smart. He brings back the firewood. 👍

Hi Greg, I’ve had many overnights in teepee. In the middle of winter, cold but no snow. Love the fire and comfort.
It can be very efficient. I’ve been in the middle of rain storm and sometimes that’s tricky. We had a small creek running through. Haha. Good memories. Got to cut the trench around and way for the water to get out. Thank you for sharing your adventure. 👍🏼

This video is a snap shot of my last several months. My gf and I and 2 dogs and cat have been camping in western NY for 265..today we have 100 days left in our year of camp challenge. Snow, getting in and out to work and starting fires in the hot tent...thanks for the vid!

not gonna lie: this cute puppy really loves you. It's so wholesome,
Have you ever considered mounting a winch to your SUV as an additional layer of self reliance when off roading alone? If you dont want to hassle with mounting a large winch style front bumper you can get a tow hitch type winch basket which is just a winch plate with carrying handles that slides into your rear hitch with long power cables with clamps on the end, its designed to be quickly mounted to any vehicle with a tow hitch. Its just an additional layer of safety as no one likes getting stuck alone in the woods and having to hike out for help. These tow hitch cradles are about 50 bucks plus the cost of a winch but can also be used to drag heavy logs and whatnot or rig up a snatch block in a tree and use as a make shift crane.

This video teaches us that in the winter, heading into the forest, be sure to have EVERYTHING you need to make the first fire with you. Even up to a certain amount of dry firewood, inclusive. Greg, thanks for the instructive video!

Put the chains over the tire, with one end tucked at the contact point of the road and tire. Sort out the other end so its lined up, then roll in the direction of the tucked edge. You will have less struggle than laying it on the ground and driving on to the chain.
Wheelspin will mess up your chain if you do the drive on method.
Trucker tip for ya.
I chain up my tires often on my loghing truck. Gloves do get in the way. I keep black nitrile gloves, like surgical gloves, in my truck. I use my warm gloves to throw my chains on, then switch to black nitrile thin gloves to connect it up. This keeps the moisture off my skin and even in minus 30, my hands are able to take the cold to do the job.
Working with exposed skin in that cold, as you know, is not going to be comfortable. Thin nitrile gloves make the work so much easier and comfortable.
Makes me miss my German Shepherd Lucy. Best dog I ever had.

There are "chains" made with thin cables and lock washers that a guy can put on the front tires to get better steering. Since they are not chain, they don't shake the steering wheel like the big chains. I've seen them at farm implement stores, and on ebay. I used them on my front drive Dodge and they worked great on freezing rain and snow up to eight inches.
