  • Green Tara is almost certainly the most popular Enlightened Buddha form in Vajrayana Buddhism. Tara's mantra is chanted daily by countless Mahayana and Tibetan Buddhists. Tara - the Liberator, the savior, the healer - is the "Mother of all Buddhas. Please enjoy and benefit from this guided meditation video on Green Tara practice for both uninitiated and initiated practitioners, with animated visualizations of the Tam syllable, green light, and Green Tara. The video ends with beautiful Tara mantras sung by the amazing Yoko Dharma.
    Captioned for those who prefer it in English (Canada) with auto-translate on multiple languages. Please feel free to suggest edits to subtitles.
    Relax, sit straight, half-close your eyes, and listen to H.E. Venerable Zasep Rinpoche guide you through visualizing Tara and chanting her mantra. Then, chant along with Yoko Dharma's amazing voice at the end of the meditation - with yet more beautiful meditational images.

    i recently watched a video of an x criminal whonl was talking about how he found buddhism in prison and that helped him get clean.
    now 2 days later i walked into a thrift shop and there infront of me was a green tara hanging rug. it almost felt like she was presenting her self to me, calling me in. so i bought it, not even knowing what green tara was about, i didnt know anything about her. later that day i looked it up to find that shes a Buddhist deitie. i felt like she came to find me and welcome me into her world. it was honestly mysteriously beautiful

    Initiations used to be rather secret, but nowadays it seems that some practices must be popularized... because in these dark times we really need true love and compassion, and teachings about who we really are. Teachings that can help us actualizing the wisdom hidden within us.
    May you live long Zasep Rinpoche

    Please can I ask? What does it mean if Green Tara showed to myself spontaneously in crystal clear vision? It was twenty years ago and I was on the psychedelic trip with my friends. Then I sit in front of the notebook and looked how picture of graphic vortex like picture slightly moving (on desktop background of that notebook). Then it appears to me suddenly. I never heard about her before that time and not studying Buddhism or Hinduism. Vision of Tara was from the sunny forest, trees had a big light green leaves and I was looking from above slightly down to Tara. She was on big massive branch of the tree and looked directly to my eyes, she was smiling on me, her skin was green and on her head she wear golden headband with some color stones on it. She was almost naked and sent me telepathicaly very positive vibes and when she waved by her hand at me with smile on her face, it sent me instantly back to reality. But I remember it as it happened yesterday. Very strong experience of love... Does it mean any stronger connection? I am living in Czech Republic. Thank you

    • @BuddhaWeekly
      @BuddhaWeekly  Před 7 měsíci +4

      Certainly you have a connection, there's no doubt. Tara doesn't connect only with people who are Buddhists. When I was in the hospital, I had a very vivid dream of the nurse who was attending my surgery as Green Tara. I fully understand it was the sedatives and (maybe) the pain killers, but that doesn't lessen the connection that my mind made in that moment. Tara comes to those who need Her, not just those who ask for Her. It sounds like an amazing dream. Her mantra is Om Tare Tuttare Ture Svaha.

    Is initiation the same as empowerment?

    • @BuddhaWeekly
      @BuddhaWeekly  Před 2 měsíci +1

      They tend to be used interchangeably. There are some nuances, though. Lung, for instance is empowerment to practice the mantra. Full initiation is actually usually a collection of Four Empowerments: Vase, Secret, Wisdom and Word Empowerment.
      If we just casually use the word "empowerment" to mean mantra lung, we might receive only "lung" for Yellow Tara to practice, while we might receive the full four initiations (or empowerments) for our main Yidam practice.
      We also take the vows, usually Bodhisattva Vows (common to all Mahayana practices, and possibly the Vajrayana vows if we're taking higher initaitions.
      Then, there are differences by lineages, although the common pattern is: we first receive the Vase (or Body) initiation -- which also purifies our body -- after which we are authorized to visualize our Yidam (Tara in this case -- visualize ourselves as Tara, called Self Generate). So, if we didn't receive Vase, but we did receive lung empowerment, we are only authorized for the mantra (we can visualize Tara in FRONT of us, but not ourselves as Tara.
      Full Speech Initiation (often called Secret Initiation) is more than mantra lung, but is also the transmission of the Sadhana of practice (the step by step practice) which is transmitted directly from teacher to student, and then we are authorized to practice the SADHANA (that full Sadhana) (often with a mantra visualization of the letters as well). This purifies our speech.
      Next is the wisdom empowerment, which is related to the mind, and this purifies the obscurations and illusions of mind. One is empowered to do the practice of bliss and emptiness.
      The fourth empowerment is that of the word or mahamudra. It's like talking or pointing out instructions with the words. But the meaning is mahamudra. So then one practises with the essence of one's mind. This is the complete removal of all of the mental illusions. So there are these four types of empowerments. If you want to reduce all the empowerments into just one, it will be the last one, which is the word or mahamudra empowerment.
      So, depends on context. If a teacher is offering "lung" or empowerment of only a mantra, just bear in mind it's only the mantra transmission. If it's a full "initation" it will normally be 3 or 4 empowerments (usually, at least Vase, Secret and Wisdom).
      Hope that helps. In kindness, BW

      This advice likely was from a commentary on a retreat. During Kriya Tantra retreat (and especially Tara or Avalokiteshvara) it is recommended to not eat meat. As for Tara's mantra, of course it would be helpful if you chant it with the intention of thanking and blessing the animal. Tara, in particular, is a unique practice, because there are Higher and Lower Tantra practices (for the lower tantra, during retreat, you generally don't eat meat.") For daily pracitce (i.e. versus retreat situations) you have to be guided by your own health concerns, and karma and your teacher's advice, and so on - but for those who feel guilt or feel they are accumulating negative karma or feel compassion and sympathy for the animals - and more importantly, for the benefit of the animals (since we are all aspiring Bodhisattvas) there is a "meat blessing mantra." (and of course, Tara's mantra is beneficial as well, as is Vajrasattva's mantra to purify our own karma.) Some teachers are hesitant to transmit the "meat blessing mantra" it because it can be deemed to encourage the consumption of meat - again, I'm not trying to bring up that topic, only qualifying this mantra teaching. So, I'll quote instead: "Meat Blessing Mantra by Choekyi Gonpo IX
      Before consuming any meats, chant the Akshobhya Buddha long mantra for 3 times, follow by 7 times of the Mani mantra and lastly the meat blessing mantra for 7 times. Then, blow onto the meat dishes and visualize the animals received all the blessings; and through the power of the mantra be reborn in a higher migration."... "Initially, Rinpoche is quite reluctant to transmit this mantra, as Rinpoche said it's not appropriate to teach a mantra that may indirectly encourage meat-consumptions …
      However, at the repetitive entreaties of his disciples, out of deep compassion for all, Rinpoche has kindly transmitted the below mantra to be chanted by those who are not observing vegetarian diets. This mantra can also be chanted by non-meat eaters who are joining meal with others that serve meat." Source: drukpachoegon.org/meat-blessing-mantra/
