  • Learn about living life at a higher level in this second installment of Bishop T.D. Jakes’ “View From the Top: The Secret to Elevation.”
This message focuses on the story of Christ’s transfiguration. In this latter half of the sermon, Bishop Jakes emphasizes the importance of forgetting what is behind and reaching for what’s ahead. Stop wrestling with the past.
The disciples on the mountain experienced a new revelation of Jesus. It was Jesus as they’d never seen him before. It was beyond description, celestial, something not of this world. They also saw Moses (“eternity past”) and Elijah (“eternity future”) appear beside Christ (“eternity now”).
The message now turns to Peter. Moses, Elijah, and Jesus were speaking with each other, and Peter interrupted them with a plan. As Bishop Jakes puts it, he interrupted a heavenly conversation with an earthly principle: Peter wanted to build three tabernacles where they stood. What is the issue with this? He was trying to bring something old into something new.
Bishop Jakes tells his church: don’t interject your vision into God’s. Your ways are not His ways. It’s at this point that a cloud descends, and God the Father speaks, essentially saying, “This is my Son. Listen to Him.” In other words, be still and know that God is God - and you are not.
As God brings you to higher elevations, the journey requires humility. Your world will change; your environment will change; your vision will improve. You need to keep your eyes and ears on Jesus.
