The TTD was actually supposed to use a Lyttleton Engineering Works 120mm gun. Would be awesome if they put that in the game, perhaps as a premium.
The gun was tested and fired, but never mounted. Chances of it added is slim😔

love to see somebody play the TTD, sometimes i feel like im the only person who actaully uses it.
I only saw 2 people using TTD ever, atleast in RB, and it took like 50 matches.
TTD is so underrated.
When i first started wt i were grinding britain tech tree and were going for TTD. but i switched to germany.
The grind to get it is horrendous
The main issue with the TTD is that to get it you have to grind through the olifants, which were not good tanks at the BRs they got released at.
They look very cool though, which is enough reason for me to want them

The olifant Mk2 is a tank I like quite a bit. Shame the Mk1 is absolutely awful
@@shinanodafloof4491 eh the mk1 is fine, it's a worse s'hot kal and the stock grind with a bit awful but spaded it's fine. Could be worse, you could be playing an AMX-30 B2 with no stabiliser.

This video just really came in handy, I started grinding out the South African tree to reinforce my lineup before moving on above 9.0, I'm currently getting the Olifant mk. 2 and I sure do hope it's worth it, the mk.1 feels decent so far, I just got the laser rangefinder on it and it's a game changer for the British (at least from my perspective). Appreciate the video, you're one of the few creators who gives great opinions on all vehicles!
I personally own the Olifant Mk.2 and the TTD
The Olifant mk.2 is a decent MBT, compared to the Mk.1 you have an improved mobility, you have gunner/commander 2nd Gen thermal, you have access to the DM63 APFSDS round
However the Olifant is lacking in terms of armor, almost everything will go through it's armor, the turret armor is OK but that's it, don't rely on it
Also it is quite a big tank wich also means a big target
And even if the mobility have been improved it is still lacking compared to other MBTs such as Leopards, OF-40s, T55 and 62s...
The play style of the Olifant Mk.2 is quite the same as the previous Olifant, use your decent thermal/DM63/Laser Rangefinder to snipe if you are in a map that allows you to do it
@@adriencoudert1083 To add on to this, playing through the Olifant Mk2, I found the turret armour was quite troll when you started crested ridges. Because the Mk2 is a Centurion with added armour, it creates a troll armour profile towards the top of the turret face. This led to a lot of bounces when people try to shoot you before you can get your gun over the ridge.

The problem with the South African tanks is that they were actually never designed to be used. They were concepts at most. That's also why they kept upgrading the old centurion tanks until they were so upgraded and redesigned they formed new tanks.
The terrain here in South Africa doesn't support tracked vehicles very well, that's why we mainly use wheeled vehicles like the G6 or Rooikat (which is grossly underpowered in WT).
Also our military (economy) went to sh** due to corruption, so these vehicles/vehicle designs are all from the 60's /80's.

@@Militaryheritage I would admit "never designed to be used" is a little over the top , but the tank designs that were put foward were put aside in favour of more wheeled vehicles. A better term would be "used only in very specific scenarios". Other than designing upgrades for the Olifant, we didn't do much with tracks.

Ooooo the TTD. Bit of rare sight in matches since most people prefer to use the high tier Challengers and I don't really blame them. Still, this thing gives Britain something under 9.7 which is quite nice
No one uses the TTD cause it is impossibile to grind the modules, they require insane ammount of rp. Is not even worth it
The unspoken truth
Since I've been working with netcode in my own projects I might throw in an explanation of the latency issues: By the time you have seen a shell fired at you, it was fired X ping ago on the server. That means if you fire at the "same time" you see someone else fire you have actually fired after they have. Now, it takes X ping for your command to get back to the server, so that means the enemies round will have been in the air for X*2 ping before your command to fire is received. Assuming 100ms ping and the 3BM42 which travels at 1700 m/s, it'll have traveled 340m. If in that window it hits and kills or disables your tank, your command to fire fails. The round you see fired from your tank is your game client predicting it will fire a round. Until the server has received the fire command and actually fired, your round is only a prediction, and one that can fail.
As much as gaijin has shitty coding, this particular issue is a common problem in multiplayer games and the way it's handled here isn't abnormal, it's actually the standard way of doing it. There are ways to try and cover these issues, but any changes would essentially be choosing which player to favor in a fight, there's no perfect answer.

I love my South African line-up. My first choice is the TTD of all my high tier tanks and the Olifant Mk.2 has awesome thermals. I do wish War Thunder would include a proper South African AA around BR 9.0/9.7 though.
Your comment about the sluggishness is spot on and I think War Thunder messed up the stats because the Olifant Mk.2 feels much more nimble yet it has a less powerful engine and weighs more than the TTD.
As far as the 105mm gun and DM63 ammo is concerned, I have player a numerous amount of 10.7 matches with the TTD and even Olifant Mk.2 as second MBT without any trouble killing targets.
So in conclusion, TTD basically is my favourite go-to MBT and I prefer it to the Challenger 2 series.

Nice to hear! I've grinded pretty much all of the British tech tree (Minus whatever comes after Challenger 2, and minus the TTD)
However I stick to 9.0, I don't really like the change of playstyle/meta in 9.7+, HOWEVER I'm very interested in getting the TTD because it looks like a very interesting tank! (Unlike the Challenger that doesn't really attract me)
I wanna do a similar thing that you did, play with the TTD and pair it up with the Olifant Mk. 2 (too bad I can't afford the Olifant ATM because I wasted it all on crates from last summer operation)

speaking about 9.7 vehicles with DM63, I find the TAM 2C very enjoyable to play.
Thermal gen 2 and laser warning are a nice plus at that BR

Most of the South African vehicles dont have the mobility in game that they have in real life, the Ratels for one are much faster, it’s like they dont have any torque, but there is alot of speculation that the armor values on the TTD are much lower then they’re suppose to be

Yes look at Vickers mk 3.It has a same power to weight ratio as the leopard 1. But the tank is slow and top speed is limited to 50kmh. That gun was designed to fire all NATO rounds. But In game we have low pen apds for mk3
The armour values are correct based on availabile information.
Most of the old south african military doctrine, which these vehicles were build for were, highly mobile warfare, get in do lots of damage get out, or relentless persuit of an enemy if they cant match you in the field. This is why alot of their vehicles are so fast.

That winching issue that AGS had is a common issue with the winch mechanic right now, it's happened to me more times then I'd like.
Just an idea, but can you play the vehicles at the start mostly stock for reference? I am currently at the italien 9.7 Dardo VCC-80/30 and while it may be a good vehicle, it being end of the line and the much needed modules being later ranks it is very unpleasend to play with. Like if you review a tank mybe fpe, parts and the first dart, so we know what to expect from the vehicle, if normal players play then that dont have everything unlocked? This would be really helpful!

This thing has a more accurate armor layout than any Ariete does and it's in a subtree.
It's sad what Gaijoob has done to Italy.
What absolutely sucks about this tank is that it gets the mediocre base L7 reload of 8.7s instead of the 6.5s one on things like the Abrams and the CM11. I think it’s the highest BR 105-armed tank that still has the slow reload.
I have a question. Why the vickers mk3 has the same power to weight ratio as the leopard 1 but the has limited to 50kmh. Some document except wikipedia says it has a 60kmh max speed on road.And It was designed to use all possible ammo for the L7 cannon but guijin has only put heat and low pen APDS. Even mk1 has a better pen round

Its a good line up vehicle. It has a good performance. Tanky vehicle doesnt exist in this game now so if you get shot, u die. Always has been for me in high tier

I'm convinced Gaijin turned down the number of times the server updates per second, to try to reduce the load on the servers, more ghost shells, more shots that seem to have been fired first but never fired, more unnatural movement when accelerating/decelerating, most obvious when opponents rocking back and forth.

Been griding the brits recently. I hated the mk1 olifant, but I actually really like the Olifant mk2. Those crisp thermals are really handy. Then i got to the TTD. I hate it so much. No MG, bad thermals, bad reload, no armor, slow AF. I have taken out the olifant mk2 out repeatedly over the TTD in my 9.7 lineup.

The TTD is a completely new tank.
The TTD is not bad as a support MBT but the line you need to grind is, and TTD as the final prize for going through all of that is just not worth it.

The Leopard 1A5 could be given DM63 because it used them. Might be moved to 9.3 with it tho which I think would be fine. Same goes for the C2A1 Mexas. It could also receive DM63 although I am not sure it it carried it

most of the italian tech tree is about speed and firepower and you can be throwing the armour out of the window as it simply does not exist with some exceptions like the m26a1 so id say go for the breda and master it as flanking and spanking will be your main way of killing people. as for a good lineup for grinding the 4.0-5.0 br my favorite is the 3.7 one with the m24, the sherman, the semovente and the cheap wirbelwind i like to bring the re2002cn as its one of the few italian fighters that can carry bombs and it can stand its ground on a dogfight but most important thing of all is to have fun and try to not look after only one vehicle rather try to aproach all of them with interest as the italian tech tree has lots of hidden gems
(Btw 50cals are your worst nightmare)

I honestly feel that a lot of vehicles in-game are not reaching their actual potential, e.g. Wheeled vehicles's mobility are really underperforming, which is a pain if you are trying to go through 2.4 cm of mud.
Also I am gentlemanly pissed at the fact that the chally's armour has been nerfed.....So there goes the only good thing about the challys out the window.
But then again me complaining about problems in this game is like having an argument with a wall.
The TTD is good'nt...that's how I feel about it.

That first Olifant is somehow heavier than a Shot Kal while having none of the extra armor, very strange. But it does have apfsds while Chieftains don’t so there’s that I guess
@@cutthroat795 had a different engine which is probably why it is heavier, and yeah the SADF olifants used APFSDS, while the later variants of the Chieftain adopted APFSDS.

To answer your question Justin, South Africa was a British colony for a while, and it also probably has to do with South Africa not having enough vehicles to be put in the game as its own faction.

I think this tank will be a pass for me tbh i dont really get the point of it. I actually really like the olifant mk2 the citv and gen 2 thermals is really nice at 9.0 but the ttd seems to be almost worse with gen 1 thermals no citv and the same round

So yeah Ghost Shells have become more frequent than before and they claimed that they have already fixed it, seems they are lying about it. I asked Oxy about it on one of his livestreams and I was ignored, no comment there at all. That silent treatment on me by Oxy confirms it that the devs never fixed that issue till now.
