How to TATTOO YOURSELF! Track Moving Things in Any Video Editor Made Easy

  • There will be times you need to have an object follow another and not everyone has tracking capabilities. I show how to do that using ANY editor by giving myself a tattoo. Read more below and bit.ly/SubscribeToBasicFilmmaker
    You may not have tracking capabilities, such as those in After Effects or Mocha, and might need a quick solution to a small clip where you need to, for instance, replace a sign or poster on a client video that has a moving image.
    In this video, I show a SIMPLE example of how to use any video editor to add an element, photo or video, and have it follow the on-screen movement of another object.
    It's quite easy, and I suggest this method for short clips in a pinch, like when the client needs it now (which is usually the case). :)

    I knew about tracking, but didn't know that png images would have a transparent background. I learned a new thing. I guess that's what these are all about, aren't they? 🙂👍

    Great video, great channel. Even with tracking after effects or other programs you sometimes need to go back and delete or change the automatically created keyframes, so this is VERY useful to know. To speed up the process I recommend splitting the difference between keyframes so you don't have to do every frame individually. Set keyframes for the big movements like you did in the beginning, and then scrub to where it is off the MOST and correct the keyframe there. Then check to see what it looks like. If it's still off then again scrub to where it is off by the most and correct that single spot. Generally for things with not too erratic of motion this fills in the gaps and you don't have to go frame by frame saving you a lot of time and using way fewer keyframes.

    I hope you can help as i cant get a straight example or tip.
    I know what i need is motion tracking but ill explain what i am trying to do in my editor and
    wonder if there is any tip or other way to do this.
    I basically want to be able to put an image or even animated clip or Design into a moving video.
    Example- I am shooting a scene. Its blair witch style with shaky camera not many still shots. So i am running with the camera and i look back with it behind me. This is where i add in lets say an animated TREX.
    I want that T Rex to stay ONLY in the spot that i choose so when i turn the camera back he is gone from the shot. Its difficult to do. Even for a still image in a moving shot. If i want to put a robot standing still in the background and have the camera pan only for the robot to come into view as i pan further to its location. But of course Anything you put on screen will follow your camera movement. Its probably really easy for some but for me i cant figure it out.
    Every movie do this. Saving private Ryan. The whole beach was almost fake Poeple and props. But how the heck did they get the Giant Rebar Spikes to stay in one spot while the camera panned and shook and zoomed.
    im losing it...

    • @BasicFilmmaker
      @BasicFilmmaker  Před 4 lety +2

      Ok. Probably too long for a comment, but let me try. Let’s say I am moving the camera for left to right on a beach. I want to put a ball on the beach. So the ball will be simple keyframed, starting at the begin point, and it move to the left at the end point out of frame. If you draw the first frame with the ball, and the last frame with the ball, it make make sense which way to move the ball while editing. It can be done by hand if it’s a Simone shot like that. For more complex shots, they’ll stick something during the shot, such as a green dot on a stick where the ball would be. Now they track that and apply that track to the ball they are adding into the scene later. If no green stick, they track something in the background as best they can and use those keyframes on the ball. I think I need to make a video on this as it’s better seen than explained. 👍

  • @Land-Shark

    Very nice :) After a person keyframes a tattoo like that, they could then go back in and use a simple elliptical mask to cover the tracked tattoo and keyframe in a quick little reveal that makes the tattoo appear to be getting inked over the course of 1-second or more. Lots of fun to be had with this kind of project. :)

    • @BasicFilmmaker
      @BasicFilmmaker  Před 5 lety +1

      Nice suggestion! Thanks!

    • @Land-Shark
      @Land-Shark Před 5 lety +1

      @@BasicFilmmaker If someone wanted to go a little deeper into the animated inking, they could make masks based on color and layer in multiple reveals so that each color looks like it's getting inked individually, too, or make each color mask reveal at a slightly different speed to add that little bit of variation to the reveal. But those are little things we do for the learned scholars to notice 100 years from now. ;)
