The mystery item at 12:55 is a grenade.
Specifically, it's a Viven-Bessières rifle grenade dating from 1916 and named after its inventors.
It was fired from a cup discharger fitted to the end of the rifle muzzle and had a hole straight through the middle to allow the bullet to pass through. This meant that that (unlike with most designs) dedicated cartridges without projectiles didn't need to be carried by the soldier. As the bullet passed through the hole, it triggered a lever that primed the grenade. Residual gas behind the bullet built up in the cup behind the grenade and projected it out of the cup discharger. It had a maximum range of nearly 200 metres.
Of the two nobbles still visible on the top, the larger one had a screw top on it through which the grenade was filled with explosive. The smaller of the two contained the ignition device and detonator.
The VB grenade formed the basis for French platoon-level infantry tactics during WW1, which relied extensively on rifle grenades both to bring down suppressive fire on an enemy position, and to support an attack. It survived in use into the early years of WW2 but became obsolete as the war progressed.
If you do an image search for "VB grenade" or "VB rifle grenade", it will come up with many hits and there is little doubt that this is what Wim found.
I thought that's what it was! Watching Winn flip it made me wince!

Cops often have issues with guys like these, but I just cannot understand why they wouldn't like these guys that take trash out of waterways.
They never have issues with them, because they’re cleaning the river, don’t know where you’ve seen that.
In germany its illegal. The reasons are that there are still bombs and stuff in the water from the war. Also it realeases a ton of shit into the water all at once when things like motorbikes get moved. The animals who live in the water use the trash as hiding spots and often live in there so the housing is destroyed when the trash gets pulled out. That are the reasons for germany at least, but i think they should take matters into the hands of professionals and clean the rivers here from bombs and trash. Doing nothing is not the way at all. And to make something illegal doesnt solve the problem either.
Yeah, I can understand that-particularly in place where a lot of bombs are unaccounted for from WW2

Excellent magnet fishing finds, in particular Wim's bulldog revolver (keep the Eiffel Tower souvenir with the handgun as a reminder of where you found it) and the rifle grenade. Beautiful day w/ friends in Paris and the famous Tower.
The coin in the begining is a French 5 centimes coin. They only cirulated this coin between 1960 to 1964ish and they demonitized it in 1966. Pretty cool find! I would love to magnet fish around that area. They history! Who knows what you'll find!

the criss cross in the neck is to slow whatever was in there from just pouring out. so, powder, tonic water/oil for the hair. stuff you didnt need a whole lot of to be effective.
