  • Our short review of the revered Tommi Mäkinen Mitsubishi Lancer EVO 6. Or six and a half as it is widely known. Truly a classic modern JDM from Mitsubishi to celebrate the 4 WRC rally championship wins by Tommi Mak. This one is beautifully presented in the relatively rare Cassis Blue, of which only 400 of the 4092 cars were made. We hope you enjoy our short review.

    Nice to see an older bloke admire and appreciate these 'JDM' cars

    Nice review. The car was a homologation special for GroupA WRC that's why it has that aero. To run the aero in the GroupA WRC it had to be on the road car. The top wing is even adjustable for angle. That car is an import even more collectable are the Ralliart Australia delivered EVO6 TME RS2. The test car could run 20-22 psi boost no problem (would give around 220kW at the wheels) with stock everything (needs the upgrade exhaust) just by turning the boost up and would be very impressive to drive compared to the stock boost.

    lucky enough to have a TME and a STI V5 coupe. Both are different animals and suit a particular mood you are in at the time

      Yes Mark has known Peter for a long time as friend and driving coach. Good news, we will be doing not just a walk around review like Larry did, but a proper on-road review of the amazing Hakusoka GTR. And some other treasures in Peter's collection - there's a 240Z that is unbelievably mint. How does that sound?

    I really like how you are talking with the owners at the beginning of some vids. A mate had an EVO5 with some mods. Was extremely fast but not enjoyable to be in to be honest, and the tiny 50l fuel tank would be empty really fast. The later cars do seem to be a lot more practical.

      That's an amusing analogy. I take your point. Yeah Mitsubishi Electric Blue is quite similar to Subaru WR Blue.

    In my opinion the value buy right now for these type of car is the jdm Subaru blob eye and hawkeye sti/spec C at around 35-40K

    Personally I find the EVO a much better car for driving fast than the WRX. Much better turn in and just a lot sharper all round.
    Those EJ Subarus are just a head gasket and a gearbox failure waiting to happen if you drive them hard. The EVO just loves it.
    Beautiful example that car and the only blue one I've ever seen.
    👌👍🍺

    • @inCARnationAustralia
      @inCARnationAustralia  Před rokem

      that's harsh. You might be out on your own with that one. Maybe you just have very high standards. Keen to hear your thoughts. I might regret asking this but what in that kind of price and performance range would you consider to be a non-garbage, non-boring car? (Fingers crossed you're not going to opine a 4x4 diesel HiLux, Ranger or a Walkinshaw)

    • @ArtVandelayOfficial
      @ArtVandelayOfficial Před rokem +1

      Ah the internet cliches about headgasket and gearboxes... Subaru gearboxes were only an issue back in the early GC models with 5 spd
      Also headgaskets are mostly problematic on the ej25
      A closed deck ej207 is pretty much bulletproof

    Enjoyable review there, interesting to hear different perspectives from the usual young CZcamsrs
    One point though, I'm not sure how the owner believes they are a value proposition today
    They're selling for almost more than when new and are based on an economy car
    Many current hot 4 cylinder cars like the golf R, Audi s3 etc would annihilate an old evo

    • @inCARnationAustralia
      @inCARnationAustralia  Před rokem

      Thanks Art. We've found that sometimes there is little correlation between outright performance and price / collectibility. Evo VI TME will surely hold its value better than some of those better performing cars you mentioned. Rarity and being in original condition is the key. I just can't see an Audi S3 as being collectible.The Dino 246 GT we reviewed is no match for a Hyundai i20N in performance terms, but it's worth probably 15 times as much and continues to increase. But I think you're right about the some WRXs being good value.

    • @sodazman
      @sodazman Před rokem

      Despite being over 20 yrs old, a stock standard Evo 6 TME is around as quick as a brand new Golf R in a straight line (4.9 seconds). The AWD system in the Evo is actually based on a competition car unlike the inferior Haldex system used on the VW platforms. I used to own a MK7 Golf R and in terms of fun and engagement, the Evo is miles ahead. The interior is dated for sure but most people buy those cars for the driving experience.
