      In nursing it’s the unspoken law. Never claim anything you can’t back up. Especially assurances. At best, you can educate the patients on what may happen (side effects, reactions, etc.) as well as meds or conditions that may affect another treatment and so on.

      that's what i thought. I imagine most cases in reality, someone goes in gets treated for something, then something goes wrong days, weeks or months after. And they get an ambulance ride back to the hospital wondering what the hell happened

      @Hexor_Tyr , no, chronic is the term Smitty wanted. The phrase "stuff always goes south right in front of the doctor" refers to a problem chronically ill patients have. Since their symptoms are intermittent, they're not always conveniently present when the doctor is examining the patient. While doctors frequently hear from patients who have symptoms that disappear between the time the appointment's made and the time it occurs, only the chronically ill ones have the symptoms inconveniently return after the examination. Smitty never referred to the severity of the symptoms; that was your inference only.

    I remember when I ask my dentist how long will it take for him to pull out my wisdom tooth he happily replied " about 15 minutes to 40 minutes tops" I thought great! The operation lasted for five hours 🤣🤣🤣

      Last time I went in just to get a filling they accidentally blocked a nerve in my face. Couldn't control the direction of one of my eyes and was seeing double of everything unless I was looking straight down. Had to hang out in the waiting room for over an hour after the procedure just so I could see to drive. Weird experience.

    4:31 - Okay, so I’m not a doctor, but even I know there’s no way this kid’s gonna be cleared to play a full-contact sport like football less than a week after he’s had surgery to remove an internal organ. The only way it’s happening is if Foreman is fudging the medical records.

    The guy taking lymphoma as 'nothing serious' makes me a bit uncomfortable. I had lymphoma a couple years ago and now everytime I feel itchy for whatever reason my anxiety goes through the roof.

On the one hand, he takes a risk and could become a successful football player. On the other, he plays it safe and almost certainly ends up another poor black man struggling to get through life. I know there are alternatives, but football was obviously his passion. You can't let things like that slip by you easily.

      I am one of the last white boys named Jerome. When I came back to NY from CO in 99 I started to send out resumes as a class A machinist/CNC programmer. For months I wasn't getting one call back. I decided to change Jerome to Jerry on my resume and voila, it was like magic.     I had laparoscopic surgery for my appendix. If getting your spleen removed is anything like that, there is zero chance I'd be playing a full contact sport 3 days later. One hit to the wrong spot and you can completely rip open your incision.

      Spent 2 months in agony following appendix removal laparoscopic surgery. Doctors found out i was allergic to numbing medicines and pain blockubg meds so they didnt use any before cutting in. Hospital found out my insurance was cancelled imwhile i was in surgery. So they gave me 2 hours recovery before pushing me out the door to suffer at home.

      @@Tfichtenbaum Only compared to not doing it with a giant open cut. You still have to cut through the muscle and cut attachments and things. Even the anesthetic leaves many people odd for a few days or longer.
      Not being able to lift anything is for the stiches, your gut lining has to hold in your organs and is under pressure, many guys get a hernia just from lifting things. Well surgery does the same thing and holds it together with some stitching in the hopes it grows closed. It's not going to be able to hold the tissue if you start doing crazy things too fast.

    I had laparoscopic gallbladder surgery, and I coldn't even move comfortably on the second day 😅 Leaned too much on the handle of a shopping cart almost a week later and couldn't breathe it hurt so bad.
    But, the last scene was given as that "feel good" happy ending for a medical show, and his happiness when he hears he can play is infectious

      It’s not ideal but when a splenectomy is done laparoscopically you can potentially leave the same day and fully recover in about 2 weeks and it’s not like they can force him to do or not do anything once he leaves the hospital.

      Turns out that worthless Cameron actually ruffied the dude so he would stay and get treated and thus he missed his game which led to him losing life time of opportunity. Not to forget house clearly pointing out in a sarcastic manner that the guy will be flipping burgers for rest of his life but he will live. Man I hated Cameron so much after this episode.

    I'm sorry, when was "tonight" in regards to Saturday? Because I've had a laparoscopic splenectomy and it took me at least 3 weeks to recover before I could go back to work to avoid the risk of popping my stitches and getting a hernia.

    Yeah, I had my spleen removed laparoscopically for Stage 4 Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
    He definitely wouldn't be playing on Saturday :D
    3-4 weeks is a usual recovery time.

    How about a echocardiogram to diagnose hypertrophic cardiomyopathy? He can play football right after getting his spleen removed? Who was the medical consultant on this show? This is why, as an RN, I never watch medical shows.

      That was my exact thought. As soon as they said “testing on a treadmill for HCM,” I thought, why not ultrasound. I’ve heard people say the medical jargon in this show is terrible and this is pretty decent proof.
