Although by how stupid she still kept acting towards the end, it became undeserved for her. She should've killed Littlefinger herself if she was a true Stark and badass after all of that. Instead she couldn't even tell if her sister was trying to kill her or not until Bran told her she wasn't. She was stupid til the end and didn't deserve to be ruler of the north, especially w/her own brother as the King of Westeros. It came off completely selfish and entitled, and in reality the other kingdoms would've went to war w/her over that.

      1. "The man who passes the sentence should swing the sword."
Yet don't forget the _entire_ phrase.
"If you would take a man's life, you owe it to him to _look into his eyes and hear his final words_ . And if you cannot bear to do that, then perhaps the man does not deserve to die."
Ned only meant that if you're going to sentence someone to death, you need to have the guts to look them in the eye, hear their final words and _then_ proceed. If you can't do that, then maybe you shouldn't be killing them.
Sansa _listened_ to Littlefingers last words. She _looked him in the eye_ as she sentenced him to death, and she did the same for Ramsay. Ned doesn't _literally_ expect you to be the one to kill them.
Only that you do it while being being there with them. It's also why Ned didn't like when Robert sent people to kill Dany. He felt Robert should have had the guts to look Dany in the eye and _watch_ his sentence get carried out in front of him. The fact that Robert couldn't do that proved to Ned he was _wrong_ to try to kill Dany.
      2. She didn't fall for Littlefinger's trick either. The fact is, Sansa is the one who went to Bran for clarity. But she did this because she _played_ Littlefingers game and the conclusion she found (that Arya would kill her to be Lady of Winterfell) _didn't add up_ to Sansa. Because she _knows_ her sister enough to know she _hates_ the very idea of being a lady. Yet Sansa was still confused on how Arya got that note from years ago and what her deal was. That's why she asked Bran what was up with Arya. That's when he told her everything. The very fact that Sansa _actively sought council_ for something she did not understand _before_ making rash judgments, actually proves she is a _good_ ruler. A wise person knows when to seek help. And it occurred to her that Bran could give her answers she didn't have. The idea that Sansa seeking out Bran meant something bad about her character is ridiculous. Especially when the very fact that she _did_ proves she _did not trust Littlefinger_ to allow him to run the narrative.
      3. It in no way came across as selfish. The North has been fighting for independence for _years_ . What _is_ stupid, is people expecting a storyline that's been going on since season _one_ to suddenly be dropped for no reason. For _what reason_ would the North have to _not_ still want independence? You must _stop_ thinking of the short term and look at the _long term_ (which is exactly what Sansa has been doing, which is why she became Queen in the end). Sansa understood that just because her brother was king _now_ doesn't do anything for the North in the future. Bran can't have children first of all. And secondly, they will be _choosing_ their rulers going forward. That means that eventually, years from then when Bran is gone, someone who is _not_ a Stark will seat on the throne. So what happens if that next person who sits on that throne decides to be like the rulers of yesteryear? Then the North will be _right back where they started_ . So _this_ is why Sansa did not budge on Northern independence. Because she was _intelligent enough_ to realize that she needed to make sure that even _decades_ on, when she's long gone from the world, that her Northern people will reside under an _independent_ Kingdom where they can always rule themselves and not suffer under Southern rule.
Sansa did everything right for her people, she will be amazing Queen because she actually fought for them and didn't give an inch.
Sansa spent the last few seasons playing it smart and people choose to ignore it or twist it but in the end, Sansa became Queen because she _earned_ it. She did what she had to do, and its sad people still can't see how obviously well rounded her moves were.

See, Arya choosing life over revenge, Jon choosing oblivion, Tyrion viewing his duty as his own personal purgatory, Dany succumbing to her quest for power all made the finale and the last season overall very satisfying for me. Sansa becoming Queen in the North was just the icing on the cake for me.

@@roseofthegarden_ ok fair points. i can see ur perspective on it and will say yes im glad she went to Bran to make sure and that does show she had doubts and knew something was up but she just seemed to believe LF too easily when he spun that narrative for her. i did find it satisfying how she tricked him in the end with that trial he thought was for Arya, but LF also seemed dumbed down ever since the start of season 5 when he somehow unknowingly gave Sansa the woman he supposedly really wanted after Cat died to an evil psychopath and abandoned her (which goes away from the books ans which is why it didnt work). In the books, he always made sure to have back up plans to get out of situations if it turned sticky so the fact he got cornered like that in that trial just doesn't make me feel like the show could write well for him either. Eventually, yes, he couldve gotten caught in all of his plans but i feel the show made it too easy to kill him at the end and it just didnt give me the satisfaction i wanted from him finally dying. I didnt like how Aryas character went back and forth from sentimentally reuniting with Sansa and Jon to acting all crazy like she might kill or at least qas threatening Sansa and then leaving Winterfell and her family behind to go kill Cersei when Dany was going to take care of her anyway so she was on a death mission for no reason, after all of that time just wanting to have a family and finally getting her family back. it didnt add up for me. The Hound's death was also pointless and his character arc in the books shows he gave up violence and became the quiet grave digger working for the religious people.
The last two seasons were just a mess. I think the show just couldve handled it all better and it was just way too rushed and not enough slow dialogue scenes like we got more in the first few seasons. My favorite episode of the last season was ep 2 before the battle when we got all those great dialogue scenes between the main characters. Thats the GOT i like. Not the Hollywood style action and sex scenes like with all the main characters getting plot armor and surviving the battle with the White Walkers despite them being overrun by them and Brienne and Jaime having sex which just didnt feel right either and then to have them write Jaime so that he leaves her for Cersie but NOT to kill Cersei was also idiotic and destroyed his whole character arc and cheapened Brienne and her sexuality.

@@ultimatebookmaniacs Oh hi UBM. Long time. For me Sansa, Theon and Jaime are realistic with no magical powers or plot armours. They are misunderstood personalities and mostly hated for things that were out of their hand.
I do feel Sansa's character was rushed like most other characters. Sansa's storyline is bittersweet but it's what the author is going for. Theon's character had a good redemption arc while Jaime had a tragic end.

    • @ultimatebookmaniacs
      @ultimatebookmaniacs Před 3 lety +7

@@abbystark3898 Honestly, I didn't like Jaime going back to Cersei after sleeping with Brienne on the show. We know his character arc would be different in the books because a) he already found out about Cersei sleeping around behind his back, b) He hates Cersei so much that he even burnt the letter Cersei sent to him, begging him to come help her when she was captured by the sparrows, and c) remember the Valonqar prophecy. That part was removed from the prophecy on the show but it's possible in the books.
Also, in the books, remember Jaime had a vision about fighting the dead in the caves? It made some people even think that he could be AA.
As for Sansa, you know I've always believed that Sansa would use what she learnt and would take down LF (remember my Sansa's Journey & Predictions video?) But I think in the books, it'd be 10 times better.
Also, I don't think Sansa would have to betray her brother's trust to do it (I didn't like her betraying Jon's secret to create chaos on the show), which could still be a bit different in the books (and I think she'd di it in a way more clever and badass way).
In the books, we already have an Aegon (whose storyline they mixed with Jon's). I do believe in R+L = J, but not sure about the whole "you're the true heir part" in the books. GRRM said some things will be very different in the books.

    • @abbystark3898
      @abbystark3898 Před 3 lety +6

@@ultimatebookmaniacs Jaime's journey might be different in the books from what we saw on the show but from the show's pov it makes sense he returned back to her. Remember what he tells Sansa. Everything I did for my family and I would do it all again. No surprise he goes back to her. He is addicted to her and he also blames himself for doing things for her. He does not see himself worthy of Brienne. As for why he slept with her for one night is debatable. I think he wanted to make her feel happy and not rejected but of course it looks like a one night stand on the screen.
Sansa's arc in the books is going to be amazing imo. She will take down LF and that alone should be a sign of her growth as character. To take down a mastermind you will have to become one.
As for Jon's secret it could play out very differently in the books. Sansa would be more diplomatic, more subtle in her moves as opposed to on the show but i believe she will be in a position to use that knowledge. Here again I would like to quote Jaime's line from the show "So many vows. They make you swear and swear. Defend the king, obey the king, obey your father, protect the innocent, defend the weak. But what if your father despises the king? What if the king massacres the innocent? It’s too much. No matter what you do, you’re forsaking one vow or another". That is a situation i see Sansa in. We know she has lost faith in gods, we know she will play the game and we know she will use the knowledge at her disposal to save herself and/or her people from Kings/Queens who would want to kill innocents (in this case Daenerys). It's why I said characters like Jaime and Sansa are misunderstood.

@@abbystark3898 I agree about Sansa's arc being amazing in the books. Despite how much I disliked her actions in the beginning, I already love her arc in the books. I totally agree on her being more subtle and playing the games brilliantly in the books.
I disagree about Jaime, but I guess it's a personal choice. Jaime dreamt about being an honorable hero like Ser Arthur Dayne and Ser Barrister Selmy etc.
He put his honour on the line to save innocent lives when he stopped Aerys from using Wildfire. The reason he started getting along with Brienne was because she reminded him of the his honour.
Yet, the second he returns, he goes back to being Cersei's Lackey? The fact that she killed lots of innocent people, including their uncle, using Wildfire doesn't have any affect on him?
Idk, it kind of ruined his arc for me. I enjoyed the book version more where he sees Cersei as a monster and would rather let her die than going back to her.
I understand what you're trying to say though. That he did ask for love and it was the most important thing for show Jaime. I think I'd have been fine with it too, if it there wasn't incest involved or if their love wasn't that toxic.
BTW, have you read Cersei's POV chapters? I love getting into the mind of Mad Queen Cersei. Especially when she does something stupid, all while patting herself on the back thinking she's Tywin 2.0.. Tywin must be rolling in his grave. 😂😂

The writers couldn't even remember the Daavos fought in the battle of blackwater and lost his son. Sansa was never dumb in the sense that she lacked reasoning and awareness. She was, however, kept ignorant of the world. Her parents filled her head with fairy tales of what the world was like, but she saw that wasn't true pretty quickly. They tried to establish her as smart in the final 2 seasons by "outplaying" Baelish (Though all she did was go to Bran and have him use his magic) and by seeing Dany as a threat. Too bad they couldn't establish why she mistrusted Daenerys, because up until that point she hadn't done anything to be proven untrustworthy. But the writers knew what they planned to have Dany do, and instead of showing it through Dany herself, they decided to have Sansa just tell the audience that Dany is untrustworthy. So basically Sansa has writers clairvoyance.

She was awful in the beginning, but learnt through the events of her life (which were often terrible) the importance of her parents family motto's: family, duty, honour and the pack surviving. And in the end she knew her pack wasn't just her family, they were the people her father was warden to protect. She got the best reunions in the show (Jon and Theon probably being my favourites) and although she did kill, they were usually the most satisfying (Little finger and Ramsey). The fact that Sophie was a child during most of the filming makes it all the more remarkable as the behaviour she was being asked to portrayed was usually much more adult than you would hope someone of her age was fully familiar with.

My thoughts were she will either die young, or she be the person her family needed to get back together.

Sansa's storyline/conclusion was the most satisfying for me in the series. She went from itching to get far away from Winterfell to be in glorious King's Landing in Season 1 to being crowned Queen of the North (still tears me up) in Season 8. Sansa interacted the most with the worst characters (Joffrey, Ramsey, Cersei, Littlefinger) making her the strongest character by the end because of her survival and applying the lessons she learned to outsmart/kill Ramsey and Littlefinger. Sansa won the Game of Thrones.

Sansa knew Arya wasnt targetting her the moment Littlefinger said "After she murders you what does she become? The Lady of Winterfell." Arya wanted to be ANYTHING but a Lady and Sansa knew it better than Littlefinger. At that moment it was crystal clear to Sansa he was trying to trick her into believing Arya was gonna kill her.

And I think a lot of people wanted her to act more like Arya, but that's unrealistic. I, on the other hand, have mixed feelings towards Sansa’s journey.
Yes, I appreciate that she’s grown into a more politically savvy character (a trait often lacking in most Starks), and I was thrilled to see her outlast (and occasionally outsmart) the bad people who abused/manipulated her.
On the other hand, I’m rather upset that Sansa’s the main catalyst for sinking the Jonerys ship, with her stubborn tribalistic drive for Northern independence (and betrayal of Jon’s trust) causing a disaster domino that eventually snowballed into Daenerys feeling totally isolated/betrayed (and thus, Daenerys became the self-fulfilling “crazy Targaryen” prophecy).
Hopefully, the “Snyder”/Martin cut has Sansa take responsibility for her part in driving Daenerys mad, one way or another.

    • @janellejulianajoy
      @janellejulianajoy Před 3 lety +5

      @@topnotchshinobi Okay.
Do you think Sansa is to blame for a grown woman losing it? Sansa did what both Jon ignored; she listened, and she executed what the North wanted. Just because Dany came into the picture doesn't mean their want for independence was dropped; if anything, it was compounded. This was the second time they went out on a limb supporting the Stark's, only to be misled. They were angry, and it was something that both Arya and Sansa witnessed.
Jon and Sansa knew in season six why many houses didn't aid them during their fight with Ramsey. This is what Sansa tried to warn Jon about; he didn't listen.
And Dany's turn had little to do with Sansa as losing Viserion, Jorah, Rhaegal, and Missandei were the ultimate reasons she spiraled.
Sansa is just fine in her arc; that has to do with her loyalty to her people, which took precedent over anything else. It was Jon who ignored it.
I can flip this and say Dany was in the wrong for asking the North to bend (when she knew how they felt) after we watched them declare Robb King in the same episode that Dany's babies are hatched. We knew what they wanted since season/book one.
The entire attitude many of you have is completely unfair as no one else is ever factored in. Only Jon and Dany.

@@janellejulianajoy Every point you made makes perfect sense, but it still rubs me the wrong way that so many characters in Season 8 (regardless of their good intentions) acted in bad faith and missed out on their chance for a lasting Stark-Targaryen alliance.

And that belittles Dany, which is why I wouldn't say I like the implication.
I loved Dany, but I can differentiate and understand every storyline didn't involve her. She finally began to interact with people we have watched grow throughout the series. They weren't unknown extra number one. We know these characters as well as we knew her.
I can't see forgetting everything we knew about them because Dany entered the chat or because Jon fell in love.
And I read so often about how Sansa was so wrong, but how? She's completing a task brought on by the North in season one. How is she focusing on her people, the way they asked her to wrong?
      I don't get it. It's completely irrational.

She also becomes one of the characters most equipped for leadership - while she clearly has and exhibits compassion for her subjects, she also recognizes, unlike Ned Stark or Jon Snow, that in order to succeed in such a harsh universe, you do occasionally need to be a bit underhanded with how you deal with things.

I have only one flaming cheetos hot take about GoT & that is I love Sansa Stark. Idc, sho0t me😌😅. Her POV chapters always felt the most riveting. For me her chapters embody the world of ASOIAF more than anyone else's because they embody the shattering of all illusions & the subsequent endurance of sheer willpower. Very introspective, very thought provoking & hard not to empathize with the pain & resilience that oozes out of her thoughts. The Knights of the Vale scene is my favorite moment of the show. So my wish is that she ends up on top in the last book A Dream of Spring in some form or fashion, regardless of how much often uncharitable backlash the character got in the show. She's tailor made to be the dark horse. Idc, I guess I'm r/SansaWinsTheThrone🙃. There are a handful POVs that have that special oompf to them & her's is one. Reading her chapters it's very easy to see GRRM has a soft spot for her. He gave her the greatest literary device of the entire ASOIAF universe, *The Unkiss* . To me the tragedy of her life resembles Duncan Targeryan's lover Jenny Oldstones from Podrick's song the most. It's even more fitting Catelyn & Littlefinger used to play as Jenny & Duncan when they were kids. Idk I love Sansa, book or show
