Andrew's tragic issue with an excavator burning down has heightened his awareness to routine debris removal and cleanliness of his machines.
I commend him for his redoubled efforts and not throwing up his hands after watching his excavator go up in smoke.
Thanks Andrew for your tenacity, improvisation and simply hard work.

I am not retired yet, work 60 hours a week but seeing a new Andrew video makes my day.
I retired a few years ago having worked in the building trade, also worked on vehicles now and then, so his content is right up my street.

Probably many comments said that already, but I can't find any: those solar chargers are great to prevent draining to the point of deep discharge and therefore permanent damage and an early death of batteries, but they don't make enough power to bring them back once they are completely drained. Hook them up permanently to a new battery or at least a decent one and the machine will most likely always have enough juicy to start, even after a long time sitting.
This channel has been my saving grace for so long now.
I feel like I know Andrew like a brother thanks to his immersive and incredibly transparent content.

Absolutely awesome i have watched so many idiots with chainsaws that are simply so stupid they don't know how to tell if they are going to get locked up by what they are cutting but as i have been doing for 45 years i just watched you do and that is stop when you see the tiny bit of movement and then cut from the bottom up and don't get pinched by the log thank you for being an actual professional and paying attention to what you are doing all while making it look like child's play

How much nicer it is to wear clean clothes, drive a clean car, for example "Detail Geek", or work with clean equipment.
@@jerzyrojek6722 10/4 A clean environment promotes efficiency and longevity, but most times you have to get dirty to get the job done and most importantly, get paid. Some operators are "Detail Geek's" while others are wrecking balls in a tornado. Andrew learned an expensive lesson that plays out everyday the world over, so it is cool to see it play out and the prevention of it happening again.

a squirt of WD40 on those hose's would ease install and it dries up so no slip.
Anderson battery plugs would be a good idea to install in all the equipment and on the battery charger. Faster, less hassle and better connection.
Battery disconnects might help parasitic drain. Solar panels to maintain not charge.

I've been watching you for years and your content is always very well done camera angles music etc.
Andrew, I know it’s a lot of work, but I’d recommend putting battery shut- off switches on all your equipment. It’s not a cure- all, but it will help with equipment that sits for long periods.
Those solar panels are like 2-3 watts and those batteries are in the 1200-1500 watts range (assuming they are not dead). Lead acid batteries also self discharge over time. So it would likely take months of trickle charging with those panels from a completely discharged state to get the batteries back to full. They also don't have charge controllers, so if the panel gets much bigger they can overcharge and destroy the battery. It looks like the panels are designed for car batteries, not heavy machinery batteries. The starter voltage sag on some of the batteries suggested a bunch have lost a lot of their cold cranking amp capacity. Trickle solar chargers do work but they are not designed to revive dead batteries or fully charge a discharged battery.
I believe the intent is to counteract the self discharging.
Yeah, those are meant to supply enough to keep the self-discharge from dropping their charge over time. They work *extremely* well, but they're the equivalent of a battery maintainer, not a charger.
We use the solar chargers on our heavy machinery at work to maintain charge on good batteries

The battery chargers will extend the life of the batteries by reducing the sulfating of the lead plates in the battery, but you will likely still need to use the charger to start the engines. Clean the battery posts.

Solar "chargers" are really meant for when a battery is already topped off, as they typically keep the battery topped off.

Yes, they're battery maintainers, not for charging a dead battery. I've been using them for years and they are awesome in their intended role.
Modern merchant ships use solar panels to charge batteries in lifeboats. For high-capacity batteries, use two or three solar panels and a charging controller.
Andrew, I highly recommend you look into NOCO jump packs.
Really hard on lead acid batteries when deeply discharged. There are some under $100 electronic battery testers than can estimate battery cranking capacity, ie how much life left in one, but have to fully charge first. These are not old style load testers.

What I like most about Andrew's videos. 55 minutes of action and 5 minutes of talking. Not like other you tube channels where you get 5 minutes of action and standing around talking. But I do enjoy videos where the person is explaining what they are doing like Mustie1 and not just babbling on and on.
Another great video from Andrew. Love your content year after year. You remind me of a 88yr old man i used to know who was always tinkering with equipment & building projects on his farm for over 20+ years. He turned a regular farm into a marvel to look at . He kept busy right up until he ended up dieing in his sleep at like 94 yrs old. Sadly the family sold his farm off but i talked to the new owners & explained to them all the projects he had tackled or changed on the farm for years himself.. I can just relax & spend hrs watching your footage over the years here & there when i have time. o7 my friend !!!

Chief you certainly like a skid steer!….I dread having to get in those dam things…..cutting up the trees the mini kubota would of been best instead of hopping in and out of the skid and jerking yourself around or off….and then you tore the tracks about off spreading stone with it instead of using one of the little bulldozers….I’m guessing it’s your favorite machine….great video as always!

I think part of what i like best about Andrew's videos is its like full size Tonka truck play. It's what so many of us did as kids, and I don't even know how you ended up with all the equipment, but its awesome! Keep up the work Andrew.

Good video. I think you need some more kill switches on your batteries on all your equipment. I see you have one on the Rock truck and you turned it back on and it started up. You had problems with the alternator but you got it working but I think you need those kill switches on all your equipment to save the batteries. Just a thought. Something to check into 👍👍🙂🇨🇦

Andrew, I have battery maintainers on my equipment. They are not battery chargers. They keep a fully charged battery at peak voltage when they are not being charged by the machine or the power supply used to do so. However, mine are ones out of VW's that were shipped overseas, in the car on the dash, to maintain the cars. One way charging, and over charge protection built into them. Ebay...plug into cigarette lighter, but I disassembled that and hard wired directly to the battery.

Andrew is a true heavy equipment worker. Working in extremely hot weather or extremely cold weather. My grandpa who has passed away back in 2003 drove heavy equipment machines and that’s why I like Andrew’s videos he reminds me of him. Great content Andrew keep up the amazing work man!!!

I've thought about this problem for you regarding the batteries. You need to buy the Cole Hersee 75908 disconnect switches and mounting and adding them to all of your equipment. A battery can last 2 years easy without a charge if disconnected. Solar can work occassionally for charging them up once a year or something if you don't use them. You don't want to leave a solar charger on forever as they'll get free radicals if not drained ever.
Andrew you were meant to win that hundi haul truck competition man. The last part of this video exemplifies that.
For the solar panels you should try one of the large ones meant for charging RVs

Newer battery charging devices need to have around 3v or more volts signal present in order to begin charging. Those solars would likely work if the batteries were not doa. In addition to they are ment as a battery "maintainer" to keep batteries from dropping / draining voltage. I would suggest fully charging them and try again.
I’d like to see Andrew get a big tree service sized wood chipper and a big ol’ grapple bucket on the monster caterpillar wheel loader for getting huge trees/logs into the haul truck😎

Curious what should you use to put the wheels on?
Maybe be it needed some type of tool to assemble the wheel assembly? You notice that he was also using needle nose pliers on the shop-vac that was made in China, China.

@@Aaron-cz5tz yes. The wheel assembly clips in and the screw holds the assembly in. Very little force is needed to keep them in.
