As an Italian, I approve the Roman soldier’s period correct accent.
Ha I was gonna say the same. He should have white gloves and a big, bushy moustache
I was about to say send this to Metatron for a historical accuracy check but this works for me
Biden as Pontius Pilate being pro-choice on crucifixion even though he's personally against it is brilliant. The entire toon has so many interwoven comedic themes that it broke my funny bone.
Pontius Pilate got bad reputation. He really had no choice. Jesus of Nazareth, then on trial before the Roman military court, refused to acknowledge Divinity of Emperor Tiberius.. Thereby, effectively challenging the entirely of Roman state, as less then legal... infront of entire court of officers... if Pontius didn't crucify him after that, he would in effect, as far as Roman law is concerned, declare a rebellion against the God Emperor Tiberius... and that would result not only in his death as traitor, but anyone who didn't act immediately to arrest the procurator for treason against the state. Having said that, Pontus did repay the Temple, for putting him on the spot, in kind. Legio XV Apollinaris and Legio X Fretensis, there pulled from Syria into Judea, beginning a chain of events what would end in extermination of Judea, and expulsion of the Jews. So he got pay bk on the Temple, in the end.
@The Flame NOPE.
The high priests of a SPECIFIC religious community starting with J were given the choice by Pilate to punish: Jesus or Barrabus (a criminal who murdered and r@ped others). They chose Jesus.
This has already been established, don't try to twist history.
"Barbarianphobia could spell the end of Roman civilization." Genius.
Barbarianphobia honestly probably did cause the downfall of Rome. Or rather, the lack of it
“I had my ear cut off in Gethsemane by one of these ressurectionists”
“Then how do you still have it?”
Only people who have read the Bible know the story behind that Joke 😂
For those who don't know: One of the apostles (Peter I think) cut off the ear of one of the soldiers taking Jesus prisoner, and Jesus healed the ear back.
It wouldn't surprise me if it turned out in this timeline he was just lying and the evidence of it was plain.
Eventually the insurrectionist conspiracy theory became so popular that people started to segment history with it, and the network had to change its name from BCNN to MSNAD

"We need to call this what it is--a violent insurresurrection!"
Sir, you win the Best Wordplay Award for this entire year good GRIEF I COULDN'T BREATHE
It's not far off from the truth though. By resurrecting, regardless of you believe it ever happened or not, the mere idea was treason, and violence against supreme authority of the Roman law. Crucifixion was a very specific punishment, for most vile criminals against Roman Peace.. usually treason or rebellion.... so, the very idea, what anyone would then celebrate a man condemned to this particular execution, or even worse still, claim what that man then ressurected... was essentially an open rebellion against the state... and that, is violence against lawful authority. Essentially, to use modern definitions, terrorism.. from perspective of Roman law.
To put it in perspective, imagine what infamous Osama... is a religious figure, and after his execution by the state, somekind of growing religious sect what denies legality of US law, starts to spread rumors what Osama resurrected, and worship him... essentially that's what happened.
They cut off his ear? well at leats they didnt turn him into a newt.
A newt?

"HE CUT OFF MY EAR"

"I got better"

I love the fact that the Roman actually has an Italian accent.😂
Yeah. That is wrong. Everyone KNOWS, you give your bad guys upper-class British accents, no matter where in space, or time, the story is set, and you give your good guys middle-class American accents.
Even if it's a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far, away.
Holy crap, Italian accented roman? Everyone makes them british! Amazing sketch 10 out of 10.
That barbarianphobia bit at the end was class

It's what happened. After executing Stilicho they slaughtered the families of their "barbarian" auxiliaries who proceeded to join Alaric's rebellion which culminated in a sack of Rome.
Pontius Pilate being Joe Biden is absolutely perfect
he would not be Judas? sure Jesus I got your back ... oh you got silver well yeah he is over there.
Pontius Pilate was just doing his job though, this wasn't a great analogy for the thinking kind. Most Christian's don't know that the Jews were a serious problem for Romans at the time, and Pilate was instructed to honor the religious customs to avoid further rioting. Something about Angels telling them they are supposed to act as respectful exiles never did sit well with Jews.
The sad part about this is that the real conspiracy theories belong to Christians. I was taught all this stuff, and the historical evidence shows that the persecution was not persistent as taught in church, there were definately bad places and times, but in general it was no better to be a Gaulic or Nubian Pagan; if you didn't serve the Roman faith, you were as fucked as a non-Paga- I mean Christian in America.
Christian's also act like the moment they combined with Paganism they didn't go around persecuting the entire goddamn motherfucking planet in an unprecedented manner. At least the Muslim's weren't going around collecting possessions, "relics" totally not Baal worship to collect things and wear a fish hat for ceremonial reasons, totally unrelated to the pagan influence fundamental to mainstream "Christianity". Let's all pretend this isn't where we get corruptions of Jesus' birth and passover.
Nero sure did Christian's in, but beyond that there's nothing that significant, and certainly nothing that even comes remotely close to going around the planet and burning everyone you didnt like, as well as experimenting on children who weren't your culture. Maybe Nero knew something we don't.
There is so much rubbish in your text im actually terminally paralized.
Over 2000 years later and humanity really hasn't changed all that much. 🤦♂️
Especially when you figure out who exactly pushed for Jesus' crucifixion.
Changed? We've reverted back more than 2000 years. Any day now they'll claim child sacrifice is their birth right and necessary for progress. They've already merged government with religion and they did it by claiming what is clearly religious belief is something else. Hell 2000 years ago they had due process before they executed Jesus. Today they'd just send a drone or dispatch feds to burn the entire congregation (men, women and children) alive in their church and get praise for doing so from their supporters.

Pilate. Seeing it spelled as the captain of an airplane or ship just feels wrong.

This is my favorite thing you’ve made so far.
He should do same thing with Fox News and have anchors talk about how colonial slaves should work harder and whine less about aristocrats
This is more insightful than any news outlet I have watched in the last five years.
Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if something like this actually happened irl those couple thousand years ago.
Humanity hasn't advanced as much as we like to think we did.
Well what did actually happen is the Roman and Jewish guards stationed at the tomb were paid off by the chief priests to spread the fake news that they had fallen asleep on the job and the disciples somehow managed to move the giant rock in the way without waking them and steal the body.
@@clogs4956 The original "social media" was people gossiping around popular hangouts. For the Romans, that'd be the bath houses, markets, political spaces, etc. Same as now, with only difference is one is online the other in person.
Good lord! "Those violent resurrectionists!" Haven't laughed this hard in a long time. You're amazing.
I really appreciate the part about the barbarians at the end, it's perfect analogy for people that know about Roman history.
Seamus you have really outdone yourself this time. The wordplay was phenomenal. I was dying over here.😂
The "cut off my ear part" was the most profound. How many times do would I prefer to hold onto the hurt instead of acknowledge Jesus has healed me.

"I had my ear cut off!"
"Then why do you still have it?"

An absolute masterclass in allegory.
The dialogue alone is hilarious, the animation is just a bonus with this one.
Insuresurection is seriously some Shakespeare level word play. I applaud you.
I nearly spit water all over my computer when Pilate came up. I picked the wrong time to take a drink. Also, I loved the "insurresurrection" bit.
Says something that this is one of the few examples of historical Roman Centurions I can think of that has an Italian accent.
To be fair, Jesus rising from the dead, was a violent insurrection again the kingdom of Darkness. And Jesus was successful in destroying Death.
Satan is now toothless and powerless. And Jesus took the keys of life from Death.
Welp, time to break out the tablet and send out the pigeon to the high council.
Just like "she turned me into a newt!" "A newt?" "...I got better."
"Insuresurrection" and "Mescience" true poetry doesn't get much better than that
Much better made up words than nearly all of the other made up words that have been made up lately.
There are people, myself included, who believe Malchus became a Christian after Jesus’ death and resurrection. For starters, the man had his ear put back on. That’s kind of convincing. Second, though, the Gospels were history books written for people who didn’t already know the story about the beginning of the Church. Because of this, the writers included significant names-notably, Nicodemus, Joseph of Arimathea, Simon of Cyrene, and Malchus (tradition also includes Longinus, the centurion who said “surely this was the son of God,” but that’s not relevant right now), all of whom were present at one point or another during the Passion. Some Church historians believe these names were included to designate people who became Christians because of the events that took place during Holy Week (well, except Nicodemus, but he was present before Holy Week, so it’s a little different). This is important because most of these names would not have been necessary to include for the story to have the same impact-after all, we don’t get the names of the false witnesses, the people who scourged Him, the two thieves crucified with Him, or even the names of all the pharisees or priests who accused Him in the first place. However, we are given the name of the High Priest’s nephew, the man who carried Jesus’ cross, and the man whose tomb He was buried in-seemingly trivial names. It would make sense if the writers of the Gospels included their names because they were converts relevant to the story.
Tl;dr: Some people think Malchus was a Christian because he is a named person in the Bible despite his relatively small role in the story.
