The old film Raja Raja Cholan (1973) also had the same. The song, Thanjai periya koyil' sung by TR Mahalingam, Seerkazhi Govindarajan and S Varalaxmi gave a warm welcome to the chola King (Shivaji Ganesan) in Kunnakudi Vaithiyanathan musical.

The Tune and inspiration came from an ancient Hindu sacred holy song. You can hear this tune for the original hymn played in Temples or in Brahmin people's households If I'm Not Mistaken. I have heard this tune before, it was played in a temple. But they just kind of changed the words to reflect on Arulmozhi Varman aka Ponniyin Selvan aka Raja Raja Chola's anointment as King.

As per the Wikipedia, “Dhrupad is a genre in Hindustani classical music. It is the oldest known style of major vocal styles associated with Hindustani classical music, Haveli Sangeet (music) of Pushtimarg Sampradaya and also related to the South Indian Carnatic tradition”
By the way, my family follows the Pushtimarg Sampradaya, a sub-tradition in Vaishnavnism, one of the major denominations in Hinduism. Pushtimarg Sampradaya is focused on Krishna devotional school. Whenever there is a religious event in my family, people sing songs based on Dhrupad genre.
