Fabulous hymn that unlike many modern tunes works just as well played and sung traditionally as with a modern band. Kudos to the organist and the choirmaster here too as the accompanyment would have needed arranging for organ and I guess the master of choristers wrote the descant.

Wonderful rendition of a great song-turned-hymn that I am (sadly) just getting to know.
Does anyone in here know what arrangement/setting was used here? Did the Coventry Cathedral music team just write their own? Or does it exist anywhere? I like how it is "simple" enough to be used as a hymn, but still keeping the grandeur, and with a wonderful descant!
I'm a church Music Director in CT, USA. ... I have found several settings on the internet, and I'm planning one of them for Easter, with the adult choir. But this opens up the possibility of being used with congregation as well.
I'd appreciate any ideas/thoughts. Thank you!

As a traditional Anglican I love the music and traditions the Church keeps. The changing of its theology to please a secular and often anti Christian world is what is pushing me out of the Church and looking to the Eastern Church.

Do you feel.that performing these over exaggerated worship songs is to change theology? I certainly do and anything from the Gettys is suspect. I do not like what they do to understanding of Easter and even less how they view the Crucifixion. I would leave any church that presumes that such songs are standard doctrine. You would not hear anything like them among the Orthodox.

Jeremiah17 Before God everything alike this is
    ABOMINABLE , BLASPHEMI ❗
Jeremiah, 17:5 - Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.
Jeremiah 10: 2-Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
10:3 - For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
10:4 - They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
10:5 - They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.
Jeremiah, 10:8 - But they are altogether brutish and foolish: the stock is a doctrine of vanities.
Jeremiah, 10:11 - Thus shall ye say unto them, The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, even they shall perish from the earth, and from under these heavens.
Jeremiah, 10:14 - Every man is brutish in his knowledge: every founder is confounded by the graven image: for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.
15 - They are vanity, and the work of errors: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.
Jeremiah, 10:21 - For the pastors are become brutish, and have not sought the LORD: therefore they shall not prosper, and all their flocks shall be scattered.
Habakkuk, 2:18 - What profiteth the graven image that the maker thereof hath graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusteth therein, to make dumb idols?
19 - Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.
Leviticus, 26:1 - Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God.
2 - Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the LORD.
First John, 5:21 - Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.
Psalms, 115:4 - Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.
5 - They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not:
6 - They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not:
7 - They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat.
8 - They that make them are like unto them; so is every one that trusteth in them .
Revelation, 22:8 - And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things.
9 - Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.
Read it until you understand ❗

Would Jesus have to wear one of those religious costumes now to get respect? I see women wearing them too. Is that the breaking of the prohibition for a woman not to wear men's clothes in the Bible by wearing the same as the men here, or is it the men breaking the commandment not to wear woman's clothing by wearing a frock? A bit like the former Jewish Temple to me!

    • @StoreeDenson
      @StoreeDenson Před 2 lety

These "costumes" originated from the robes the priest an high priest in the holy temple wore during Jesus time. Also back then in Jesus time women were not allowed to become priest because they were not as educated as the men. But I see you focus your time on small things rather than focusing on the spread of the gospel through your abilities. So what do I know. 🤷🏾

    • @scented-leafpelargonium3366
      @scented-leafpelargonium3366 Před 2 lety

@@StoreeDenson yes, it does make the Church look like the former Jewish Temple that God did away with apparently for its religious hypocrisy and misplaced zeal that concentrated very much on the outer religious look. If that's still in vogue in churches it has nothing to do with me if Jewish High Priests are their role models for how their clergy dress in the New Testament Church.
Thank you though for being gracious to reply. I know the pre-Roman Celtic Church in Ireland under St Patrick allowed women to officiate apparently, although they rejected the reforms at the Councils of Laodicea and Nicea in the Fourth Century by remembering the death of their Messiah on the actual Biblical date of Passover that Jesus observed, Nisan 14, as opposed to the new Roman "Easter" that Britain capitulated to after the Synod of Whitby in 664. They also rested on the 7th day Sabbath according to the Fourth Commandment as opposed to the new Roman "Sun"-day.
I don't think the ancient Celtic Church in Britain and Ireland wore such clerical robes, and it has been said that the clerical robes in the Roman Catholic Church derived from the robes worn in the Roman Senate, which signified (temporal) authority, recognition and power after it was claimed that the Emperor Constantine had embraced Christianity and made it into the new state religion, as it remains today. I don't focus on "small things," but I do wonder why such tradtions exist, so sometimes it helps to ask an adherent of the Christian religion just why it is so.
I do not spread any gospel or attend any church, but merely asked an intriguing question.
I will focus my time on better things than wondering why Christian clergy wear frocks.
I don't find the tone of many Christians appealling, never mind how they decide to dress.

You all argue over such miniscule points as to what clothing religious wear, priest vestments, religious brothers and sisters habits, and as to whether they fit some kind of biblical regulations when all of that amounts to a hill of beans when it comes to the glory of God. You will neither wear any liturgical vestment of correctness, that is said to be assigned to men or women, or in thing else in the realm of the Divine. Those are all creations of humans. It is exactly the minute legalities that Jesus railed against. Be concerned only with what is in your hearts and are they turned towards God. If they are concerned with someone else's heart, even that is an error. For within that is a judgment. Stay far away from judging others, only self, and you will find the love of God and the peace of Christ. Remember what was once male clothing became what women wear and vice versa. Those are all human constructs. Love God and one another; that's all you need and the Divine will lead you to know the rest. Peace!
