The Irish Data Protection Commission takes the lead because TikTok has their EU office in Ireland. If their office was in Latvia, it would be the Latvian authorities which would have the responsibility to ensure compliance.
This is not true. The IDPC was the leader before TikTok even existed.
It was because Facebook and google were there.
@omar I have revoked my comment 😢
Almost all tech or multinational companies have their headquarters in Ireland due to tax benefits. So while you are technically correct, its almost always the responsibility of the Irish Data Protection Commission because everyone has their headquarters there

Li-anli vs Phanteks is why Vague Patents should be made Public domain automatically serious "dude what if fans had lights AND built in plugs!" is even patentable?
its another example of why IP is theft. "i found this, so its mine' aka a society based on 'finder keepers, losers weepers' is how we got in this mess
@Mijc Osisamen to that, but yeah for super specific i can understand it, but this is beyond non-descript
@ArtistaFrustrado - KFP Lurk Shift philosophically its the same attitude behind turning up to a piece of land and saying 'no flags i recognise, this is mine now' - the two ideas developed together - John Locke is one of the prominent philosophers involved.
If you have the resources to defend a patent worldwide, then any slight alteration to an already existing thing is patentable.
if anyone wants to read an great article/short essay, "Terra Nullius" by Cory Doctorow is amazing. He was the first writer to release a novel on the Creative Commons, was European co-ordinator for the EFF, the article is an amazing take on intellectual properly and Lockean property theory, and actually a fun read cos he's a great writer.
His novels are amazing - you should read them too - theyre free (as in freedom, and as in free beer)!
Can we just not have an 'everything app'? Call me crazy, but I'd rather not have one company have such grand control to be considered an 'everything app.'
Isn't apple and Google already doing that? Streaming payments games phones os laptops home devices watches tablets ?
@Nabeel Farooqui ?? i dont think you have slightest clue of what they are talking about
@Nabeel FarooquiI get what you mean. In this case, they're not everything apps but instead they're tech monopolies. The two are very related though, hence why people hate the idea of an everything app
This is sad. Why does the rest of the world have to rely on EU to regulate big tech the way they need to be? It's embarassing.
It's just harder and more expensive to stop regulation by sending a consistent message with lobbying and campaign financing in the EU because every country has its own political parties.
Honestly? I don't feel like we regulate, but that we're just latching on on foreign companies.
When has an European app or website been on court like that?
@SomeThere hasn't been one. 😂
Remember. tech these are the responsibilities:
US: Innovate
EU: Regulate
China: Produce
@Somehow many apps/ companies that make in billions and abuse their power does EU have? This is the better question
The fan patent is just a reminder that the patent office should say "get f*cked" to 99.9% of patent applications.
I hope AMD go for power efficiency over more raw power, the idea of playing modern AAA titles at high settings on a mobile APU is just amazing
This efficiency will also trickle to Samsung as they use AMD designed GPUs. I just wish they don't give up on bridging the CPU/GPU paradigm.
@A Karim Siddiqui lol but nintendo using a RT 3080 for their new console handheld , AMd not got a chance nor apple
@Destructo Disk lol ARM is linear x84 is dynamic , u can never do what x86 can on arm
Bought a Ryzen 5625U laptop last month (It's HP 14s, a couple generations old but OK), locking the max power draw to 15W and still get 75% of max performance while running cooler and more quiet
AMD is the king of efficiency in low powered processors
@girlsdrinkfeckSomeone gave an Amiga 500 a graphical upgrade, and it runs a 68k cpu, you can most definitely do with an Arm what you do with x86. That being said, x86 is to integral to many systems that it would be hard to kill, even by Intel...
Lian Li goes after Phanteks, but what about Corsair's new fans that do the same thing? If you're afraid of the competition, then make your products better quality than them.
I was thinking the same thing.
of course it needs to have some merit, it has to infringe in the patents or something. Either Corsair is completely different or they haven't received the lawsuit yet.
Lian li’s patent generic af. This is like claiming a PC fan running at 12v is yours and nobody else can make another fan ever. It’s probably just a useless lawsuit to stall phanteks. You know, regular corporate stuff
I mean for a patent, its not about making it better quality but different enough 🤣🤣
@Raghavendra I mean its more like patenting a circuit board..
First Elon Musk and now TikTok? Can people stop trying to make apps for everything?
I find the whole concept so hilarious. It's like we call them apps, because nah it isn't even a whole application... this is for a phone, it's just a little thing, no one wants some big application on their phone. They want little single purpose tools that they can combine however they like to get things done! Then these guys are like, let's make this app do everything! It's like an app, but bigger... It could do absolutely everything, and suck at all of it!
"Ecosystem is the key to grow further" said one of those fanboys
Well, WeChat exists. Just sayin'...
I don't like TikTok being an everything app. They'll take more of your data!!
IMO a patent shouldn't stop someone else from making the product it protects, it should just enforce a mandated fee for licencing per unit settable by the patent owner to no more than the profit margin (or reasonable maximum approximation there of) of the product they sell so they don't lose out by the other company selling their product. If the patent owner doesn't make the product, then the fee is 20% of RRP for the first few years, then drops to 5%, because you need a while to set up production, but if you don't and don't licence it then others shouldn't be penalised for bringing it to market.
Otherwise you get cases where the patent owner makes a crap product and stifles innovation by preventing anyone else from doing a better job. The customer suffers and progress is hampered. Not exactly idealistic free market capitalism.
The everything app will never work or rather, really shouldn't. Giving everything to just one party and giving them monopoly... Bad idea.
It’s probably even worse than we think. It’s definitely a dystopian future if this becomes a thing.
I think I can best describe TikTok as that one thing with multiple usages or purposes, that does several things at once without ever doing a single thing right.
I’d love to see a return to the community submitted quickbit segments. Maybe let us submit through a Google forms link or something. It was so cool to include the community in the videos too back 4-5 years ago ☺️
What's up with manufacturers now trying to patent methods of conducting electricity like "serial linking" or "parallel linking", why are they allowed to do this?
I think they need to realise they cater to the public not control them, if people don't want an everything app, it will not exist.
People will want what they’re told, especially the TikTok using crowd.
It worked in China
@No.1 Type CChina's government has the power to force all its citizens to use it since they control wechat
If they don't have the parts for the watch screen, how are they making new watches for you to buy?
Nothing but smiles when James is hosting.
But then what when not??!? 😮
corporate Dystopia asside, not even the Swiss Army Knife is better than any of those dedicated tools. so let's stop that with the far less engineered Everything Apps (also we already have "Everything Apps" we used to call them Internet Browsers)
its literally the point of capitalism, did you never play Monopoly?
The worst part is that the old chromebooks can absolutely handle it. I bough a chromebook that stop receiving updates 2 years ago for $20 and with some nerd magic I managed to flash seabios and get a newer chromeos version running. I even gained Linux and playstore only problem is it seems they intentionally disable the sound drivers. I cannot get the sound to work without going into Linux termal and doing a ton of work. It’s identified as a generic intel sound device, every other device I’ve ran it on has worked flawlessly, it seems like intentional design to me. Even in Linux terminal it shows that it’s recognized and should have no reason to not eork
I would like to formally apologize for the, "40% of 18-24 years old search for stuff on TikTok instead of Google". I am not one of those filthy, vile, cretin... & I never will be.
Is google really that much better than TikTok? Just saying…
@phloomfI'm stunned at the amount of Chinese government agents in these comments
Now can the European Union go after Discord's lack of privacy measures
Can we just take a moment to thank Ireland’s data protection commission?
Previously were scalpers, now it is AI.
Waiting for Corsair to join the battle between Lian-li and phanteks because of their new icue link ecosystem
does this mean lian=li will go after corsair? or is corsair's yet different as well?
This quick bit intro actually had me chuckling, gotta love em.
We need more tech news!!! 🤯
When I look at things like AIO pumps on the head and daisy chainless fans, I really start having issues with the concept of copy right...
I’m glad Microsoft is being forced US military to continue working on the holo lens
Combat AR funding will fund consumer AR. A lot of consumer tech development has worked this way in the US.
2:35 because AI just has to take our jobs and our hobbies 😆
If AMD doesn't launch a flagship GPU, then I get the feeling that it will be the end of AMD's consumer GPU division.
This side of yt is hilarious. A couple of months ago nvidia was supposed to exit the consumer gpu market according to people on here, now amd. Gaming is over, it looks like.
didn't according to leaks some weeks ago nvidia also canceled their high end gpu's for next gen ?
If Tiktok wants to be the Everything app it better start by offering Something I want...
I've been waiting to find out what happened to the old TechLinked set now that they use the green screen instead.
An everything app should be illegal. Isn't that monopoly? Something! Damn Facebook already does
I loled so hard at James dance selling! 😂🤣😂🤣
is a 4060 or RX7600 (8GB) a true upgrade for GTX 960 (2GB) or should i wait for next gen cards hoping they would have more VRAM?
8gb has a few more years( is sort of fading away), but both would absolutely be a tremendous upgrade for you. 2gb is practically useless these days. With a 4060 you'd get ultra settings and with DLSS 3.5 you'd get insane frame rates.
When you already talk about leaks, at least put more of the coverage in. Moore's Law is Dead's Tom has been talking about that weeks ago - it's about AMD still dealing with issues regarding their top-end MCM design and it's just not feasable with how much time and money it would currently cost to get that working by the time the next gen is scheduled to come out. They also think that the current market situation doesn't warrant an overly expensive halo product (which is very much true tbf). They'll do a full lineup again with RDNA5 because that already looks way more promising in terms of performance and they have more time fixing said problems with their MCM design.
Superapps are something that Elon Musk wants to make work in the West, and X is failing so far, but don’t be too proud not to have super apps yet, you’re heading in the same direction, even if China is ahead of the west on this one …
And as someone who’s neither Chinese nor Western, my data packaged and shipped to either is EQUALLY a problem 😅
He said "foods high in dietary fiber" at actually the exact moment I swallowed my fiber supplement pills
love that Shaun of the Dead reference. Good job Jake!
Man, no wonder the movie podcast had to be cut, James can't even catch a Shaun of the Dead reference handed to him on a platter! =)
It's not the first time Phanteks copied Lian LI's products. They've been selling O11 knock-offs for years
I remember when I was a kid and X-Fire was the everything app.
The fan connector is not an original idea. They should integrate the connection into the case for most of these fans.
First you get a packet of Stevia, then dont dump the whole pack, just sprinkle so the nic salt runs through it. Eventually, you'll be at the top because it binds with the ethylean glycol, but it never runs out, it acts as a sugar resonator until you refill it. Make sure the filter is in or it won't resonate. You can use any sweetener, but capella super sweet is the only hydrogregarious airated solvent. It might look unopennable, but they sell jar oppeners, one squeaze of the oil changers wrench, and its all over.
_The gadgets are here; I need tech news, not a ride_
"... gamers and AI can live in harmony ..." THAT would never happen
Ya ... THAT would never happen, even if we could get GPU's at Walmart for $5.
Cable-less connectors is brand spanking new. Lian Li sure did invent that. Just like Traxxas invented cantilever shocks.
Contact connections have been a thing for a long time.
So someone goes "why don't we put contact connections on these fans so we can connect multiple fans together without extra wires" and suddenly that's a patent that requires paying royalties.
I dunno. That just seems kinda dumb.
I'm anazed how long you guys ignore news about unity. Definitely worth of riz and hope for better future.
What are you doing, parents! Creating tiktok account for children should be a crime.
Love the Shaun of the Dead reference at 3:01, as always a great vid
yes! destroy Tiktok from the inside out!
I'm so confused, is AMD better than Nvidia because of pricing/performance in 2023? Nvidia, seems high end niche now.
I really hope AMD will focus on price-performance and power efficiency.
Well they are set to give up on performance so all they will have is a low price and hopefully lower power consumption. Performance will be a after thought like a first gen Prius.
Easiest way to find out someone doesnt use or understand tiktok is when they reference "dancing". dance videos are only shown to people who dont have a profile
i love how everyone calls it the Switch 2.
It's almost like Nintendo would keep the name for the console.
Anyone else ever hear someone describe their idea for an everything app and think, “you mean an operating system?” Everything apps are supposed to be modular platforms that can have any function you need added to them, and just sounds like an OS to me. There’s no real innovation, no actual need being met, rather it’s another walled garden to put on top of an already existing walled garden that allows a middle man company to steal your data along with everyone else.
So I get to lay a Bluetooth keyboard over my second screen when I want to type? Revolutionary!
Glad to hear Ireland make the news
The tiktok ad before the video started was priceless.
Keep em coming 😂
Lian li is gonna have a field day with corsair then 😂
So, bets that the next Nintendo Console (Switch 2?) will be using GA107? Also seen in RTX 3050/ 3050 Ti in laptops?
Pixel Tablet is genuinely excellent 👌🏻
Claiming that AMD is quitting the high-end GPUs just because RDNA4 canceled Navi 41 seems a bit much. They have not canceled high-end RDNA 5 yet. That is still on track.
I wish the elementary school my daughter went to would allow me to buy her a computer instead of using their hunk of junk.
Phanteks version need a bridge to interconnect, what am I missing here?
The quickbits intro had graphics? Now every quickbits intro must have them!
The competition to become Supreme Overlord of us continues.
Bro TikTok in Indonesia will be a second VoC called TikTok Shop. The goverment declined it
speaking of HoloLens, what ever happened to that horrifying Conker's demo?
I'm so glad I'm not in TikTok
Not making high-end gpus means lower tiers will get more expensive. This is horrible news for every single consumer.
I wonder how Microsoft is going to sell the data collected by the Hololense. Oh, such juicy military data!
The TikTok logo still hurts my eyes; the red and blue shift makes it feel like it’s always out of focus
Having once dropped a brown bomb in an ammo crate, I can attest that everywhere is infact a toilet on the battlefield.
I don't understand, the fan daisy chainibg thing, isn't it just pogopins? Those have registered for a long time?
I have an old N42 Lamebook, BUT It's running Linux natively. Even the touch works!
I’m the kind of gamer who only upgrades when they need to. My 1060 6gb was finally a little too long in the tooth last year and I replaced it with a 6900XT during Black Friday. I’ll wait out the next great GPU catastrophe in relative comfort until 4/5 years from now.
Sponsor segment: Advanced PDF editor for Windows, Mac, iPad, iOS, and Android
Me on Linux: _Sips drink_ lol
The TSMC Arizona fab isn't going to be making GPUs, its going to be making chips only for Apple stuff (and even then, not the good chips). Its absolutely not going to have any benefits for gamers at all.
Its The Parents Responsibility To Protect Children Not TikTok.
Would be the stupidest thing imo for AMD to now drop out of the (high tier) GPU race, ESPECIALLY if it's to get into AI as NVIDIA already has their foot in the door there, so they'll be in an even worse position on both sides of the coin from the get go if their line up is mediocre in comparison but if they just keep investing in high tier gaming cards for a good price, while NVIDIA will drop the ball there in the next generation (hypothetically) due to their focus on ai...might take over the market.
I always watch this show while on the toilet. Good shit 💨
i already have an everything app
it's called an operating system
Why Nintendo would go with an AMD GPU when they are _ALWAYS_ chasing nVidia is beyond me... must be a price over performance choice.
3:00 Love the Shaun of the Dead reference ❤
If there's no toilet related humor on Monday, we riot.
Honestly, if AMD simply took what it predicted Nvidia high-end GPUs (RTX 5090) would contain, and just doubled that, including the shaders, AI accelerators, and raytracing cores, as well as the VRAM and processing power, then slapped a price tag double that of the (RTX 5090) high-end Nvidia GPUs, they would likely have almost double the performance of the RTX 5090, for double the price, while the low-end prices would remain the same, and with FSR 3 capable of running on Nvidia GPUs, too, it would be a giant slap in the face of Nvidia.
How old are you?
the UPDF guy in this video, has a great voice :D he can be a great DM.
Unironically using the acronym “CCP” is like broadcasting through a megaphone that you get all your information from corporate media disinformation. It’s the CPC; going “Red Scare” isn’t a good look
+100 social credits have been issued to your account.
lol. in my country tiktok does e-commerce. and the goernment about to revoke its license as a commerce.
next Gen switch can play MarioKart in real life as it drives itself.
So we finally getting Cross-Com system from Ghost Recon Future Soilder, right?....Right?!
About twenty something years ago, I saw a similar lens thing being tested by the British army, it had XP on it I think. it would lose connection a lot and just pack up, this was before decent wireless communication and decent mobile processing
That fine is just a small dent on Tiktok's revenue. These big corps won't do anything, regulatory bodies should outright ban them. Include meta also in that list.
include google please. They're the biggest data hoarders
Kop-ite (pronounced cop-ight). Liverpool FC fans are called Kopites as the most famous stand in the stadium is called "The Kop".
I’ve gotten so much fucking spam from TikTok about that shop shit to my work email. They’ve even fucking called me and I’ve told them I’m not interested. I’m STILL getting emails from them.
AMD should drop the super low end too. Just focus on 6,7,8 series 8600, 8700, and an 8800. That's the best of their product stack anyway. And start the 8600 at 10gb
Glad to see you guys are back to multiple videos a day. It's as if you didn't learn anything from what happened weeks ago
