I have bipolar and three kids. You made me bawl. Thank you. I was searching for “how to be a good parent with bipolar” and all these videos popped up saying you shouldn’t have kids and thought well I’m a little to late and felt disheartened. But then I saw you and clicked and my heart. My son is my biggest champion. Thank you
Bipolar parents are often very abusive I don’t care if it’s a disorder you need to think before you speak and the damage it’s doing to those around you just for a minute of self satisfaction smh

@@blossomberry9051 My father is very abusive and he is not bipolar. The guy who tried to rape me in high school was very abusive and he was not diagnosed with bipolar. People don't have to be mentally ill to be abusive. They can just spend years in bed crying into their pillow and praying to die because they are abused by "normal" people. Some Teenagers in high school are very abusive verbal and emotional and physical abuse.

@@beatanowak3679 I didn’t say you have to be mentally ill to be abusive. I said ( in different words) there’s a correlation between bipolar parents and offspring depression/ anxiety/ suicide caused by the parents episodes.
Thank you for this.....my dad is bipolar with ADHD. He was violent also, so there was no room to forge a relationship with him that wasn't founded trauma. Still I'm inspired to try to see the gifts of my very unstable childhood. I believe I can find them if I try. I'm so happy that you gave this very impacting talk to a room full of mental health professionals. We are all better for it.

My mom is diagnosed with bi-polar & Skitz i honestly have suffered and became immensely greatful for the life i have been through because of this situation i have dealt with it in so many ways everyone deals with traumatic circumstances differently but till this day I'm trying
god bless you. struggling to find a way to have them in my life to this day.

My father is a bipolar. He quits his job whenever someone instructs him. He often talks of divorcing my mother and abandoning me. He doesn't accept He needs medicines. It's difficult.
I feel for you. I'm bipolar and I see how both sides of our spectrum cause pain to the family. But always keep in mind, we are fully and unfortunately aware of the illness we never signed up for. Medication is important, split personality without them. 🙏

wow great video. i wish i had your self awareness when my father was alive. my father was bipolar but i learnt it by my cousin when he was dying. He was not a perfect father but he always try to hide his illness to be a good father.

I still have a difficult time rewording the phrase "Dramatic" when a "Dramatic" person is in reality suffering. Can we work of clarifying this word?
I had an episode where I was convinced my family were trying mercy to kill me so I wouldn’t breed. Naturally I went to hospital. But my knowledge of a friend suffering from the same thing kept me sane. Well, saneish

I mean sure, she has some issues- but it’s not abuse or anything. I think she puts too much pressure on her self to take care of her family, I can tell it wares her out sometimes
The mental health system is mentally ill it self/my aunt-sister-brother-have and had and died with MI/oh yeah my manic 40 year old bro is going to take these pills and comeback next month!
I am getting absolutely frustrated with my mother who has bipolar and can't help but act like a little child whenever I correct her for saying something that Is factually wrong, such as the earth is flat, it's no secret that her iq isn't high. Mine on the other hand is fairly high since iq is hereditary and I seem to have gotten my father's level of intellect. My Step dad defends her to the ends of the earth and even threatened to kick my 17 year old self out the house, she is extremely opinionated and probably the most childish person I know, I wake up and put a mug in the sink only to get told she's not in a good mood and that I mustn't start with her. Like who tf does she think she is? Seriously so ready 2 leave XD
Hello - I don't necessarily agree with what all you just mentioned. In case of severe Bipolar - love and compassion towards the person is useless. My mother is bipolar and I lost my father due to cardiac arrest. Stress of managing and trying to love my mother was one of the main reasons behind the heart attack. In my experience - the only thing you can do is go for a proper medication plan and a successful psychologist - who can manipulate the patient having bipolar and keeping them under control.
My whole family doesnt accept mental illness. I dont speak to my son because his father put something in his head that I'm a bad person. His family is all Dr's and nurses too. I am alone now trying. To deal with this on my own.
