- In this episode we steam up and drive a 7.25” gauge steam locomotive at the Leyland Society of Model Engineers in Worden Park.
The locomotive is the latest edition to the growing fleet of club locomotives at Leyland SME. The locomotive was built and completed by a club member over 15years ago to the D.A.G Brown design for a prototype based on a Manning Wardle named Anna.
Leyland SME purchased the locomotive after the builder sadly passed away. A small group of members restored the locomotive back to working order in memory of late builder, for the public and members to once again enjoy this quirky little loco.
Thanks to Leyland SME for helping with this video, further informationabout the club can be found… leylandsme.wix...
Thanks to Carl H. (Cameraman) for your help filming.

Matt, if you're either in the workshop or out and about, you are always such a nice, laid back guy. You make your vlogs a joy to watch.
Many thanks for sharing. - Fletch -
Thank you Fletch, I really appreciate these kind words. I try to be myself as much as possible in the videos, well turned up to 11 of course. All the best, Matt 👍🚂
What a beautiful layout… and a really nice day for a bit of a ‘play’….. errrr…. I meant ‘essential maintenance run’
😎
Looking forward to your next instalment mate 👍
Robert
Thanks Robert, much appreciated. All the best, Matt 👍 🚂
Oooo, so THATS what's in the corner! Glad their gonna get put to use; it would be a shame for someone to spend so long making such wonderful parts, just for them to sit around forever, never used. Good luck on the engines by the way!
Thanks BiggHobbies, much appreciated. Yes that’s what’s been in the corner of the workshop since *cough* last Oct/Nov 😳. Yes would be a shame to not use these parts, I do have a plan though…. All to be revealed. All the best 👍🚂
Very Jealous! Just sold my 7 1/4" FR Conway Castle petrol loco and matching wagon 87. Itcwas getting too heavy for me to carry round, plus thd clutch had burnt out. The engine was my late dad's (bought new in 1965) Suffolk Colt lawn mower engine and clutch. It was only on its second set of clutch shoes but last time it ran was 2017 at Bala Lake Railway. I haven't done anything to it since then, so time to go.
Still got my 16mil, 00, and 009bits as well as my full N Gauge stock from the 1970s & 80s so plenty to tinker with, but miss 7 1/4" 3rd scale!
The new owner is Lawrie Rose of LMM fame and it now lives near Ipswich....a long way from Wallasey where it used to live!
Love your work and must come to see you at Leyland; that looks like a great track layout!
I'll keep watching!!!😂
I can definetely see you behind your Tinkerbell pulling and pushing the right knobs and levers!
Thanks you, maybe in my next drive a loco I’ll do it in a Tinkerbell 😉. Although I can’t wait for it to be my Tink I drive! All the best, Matt 👍🚂
Great video! Enjoyed it very much 🚂
Thanks Trainbuilder, much appreciated. All the best, Matt. 👍🚂
Great film Matt, very well explained and such a lovely loco. congratulations.
Hi Mike, thank you 🙏 much appreciated. Like all engines it has its quirks, and has bits that could be improved, but it will happily pull 3 loaded coaches around the railway no problem. Will be over to the WLLR over the summer hols. All the best, Matt 👍🚂
@@MattChiversWorkshop Great, looking forward to catching up.
What a lovely loco 😍
Thanks Julia, it’s a little beast, needs little tweaks here and there to improve it visually and performance wise, but it can pull 3 loaded around the Leyland track very happily. All the best, Matt. 👍🚂
Excellent video Matt :)
Thank you Andy, much appreciated. All the best, Matt 👍🚂
Super day of steaming. Nice new parts. :) Thanks
Thanks Alan, much appreciated, yes another project to add to the pile of others 😂… this one I have plan for though! All to be revealed! All the best, Matt, 👍🚂
Nice work Matt.
Thank you 🙏 much appreciated. All the best, Matt 👍
Late to the party, but a fine loco, and lovely railway. Shame I live so far from Leyland (Sussex)! All we need now is someone to make a body kit for this, to fit the Bachmann Quarry Hunslet chassis' in 009 and NG7! :) Tim Sanderson
Nobody is every late to the party, you arrive precisely when you need too!! Haha, is that a suggestion for a new kit?? Would you really want to deface a beautiful quarry Hunslet just to bung its mechanism under a kit or 3d print?? All the best, Matt 👍🚂
@@MattChiversWorkshop Probably a discussion for the NGRMO Forum, but I do have a FourDees body kit for DIANA on one of my QH chassis' - however, these are swappable between locos. Hope your built of ANNA2 goes well. 😁
lovely engine The track seems to need some work
Thanks RB, it does the job, needs some little tweaks here and there to improve it visually and in performance but she will pull 3 fully loaded around the track no problem. The track work is being done as I type, we are working very hard to improve it, problem with anything these days is volunteers!! Or lack of. All the best, Matt 👍🚂

Definitely need to bring my loco to Leyland
Hi Dave, absolutely 👍, just send an email via the website to give us the heads up when you want to come. We are currently doing lots of work on the 7.25” to improve track. All the best, Matt 👍🚂
@MattChiversWorkshop Many thanks, Matt. much appreciated, I'm only up the road in Morecambe
What a fun day out, loverly looking loco, BTW what camara do you use?
Thank you. I use a mix between a GoPro Hero 8 and my iPhone. All the best, Matt 👍🚂
Really enjoyable video
Thanks Rick, glad you enjoyed it. All the best, Matt 👍🚂
Lucky devil on both accounts 😂
Thanks Hotrod, I’m the one that looks after this loco at the club so I get to take it out whenever I want, it’s a lovely loco to drive. All the best, Matt 👍🚂
Is that red handle you keep winding for the elastic band ?
😂, yes, but don't tell everyone 😉
I like that blower. What is the brand name? Thanks for sharing 👍
Hi Craig, thanks for watching. The blower is Miniature Railway workshop one, I actually borrowed it for the video. They are super powerful blowers. www.miniaturerailwayworkshop.com/product-page/hurricane-steam-raising-blower All the best, Matt 👍🚂
