I've seen a few of your videos and I think the order is 1) hammer on socket, 2) vice grips, 3) hammer on vice grips, 4) breaker bar, 5) breaker bar with pipe extension, 6) welder.
Love your style Simon! BEST "slide" hammer ever invented and built in 15 minutes(taking notes here). I have worked on old Mercedes and one thing is certain: 1. Not designed for mechanics (any German car in fact). 2. Tie rod ends are always worn. 3. Damn they could build a turbodiesel engine. Petrol ones were okay. Keep the videos coming!
I hope your friend paid you good because you saved him a fortune. And you definitely need a bigger hammer😂 that's why the shop was giving him a run-around they didn't want to work on that rust bucket they know those cars are problems. And it was a death trap before you fixed it but now it needs an alignment
I’d actually like to know Simon’s opinion on the old Merc, I’ve owned 4 of them and they are not as expensive to maintain as people think for routine jobs and the build quality is excellent nuts and bolts actually undo instead of snapping off, so I am a Mercedes fan, I currently drive an E220 and love it.
The only reason a shop does that, is if they don't want to work on it. too many lazy techs just want the easy money anymore. I'm like you, I'd jumped on it.
When buying a: Mercedes, bmw, Audi or other European luxury auto. You are actually buying an open ended ticket to the dealer service center. German tanks suffered from constant repeated breakdowns from complicated manufacturing and build techniques during WW2, costing them lots on the battlefields. When it’s working, it’s great. But the key word “when” has not changed even from the 1940’s… I would NEVER buy one of these, unless I wanted a quick way to empty my wallet.
All newer cars are reliable, every machine is but key word is maintenance. If you don't do the maintenance but then say oh German cars are not good. That's why. Indeed they are premium cars and require a lot more maintenance, but that doesn't mean they aren't reliable.
Nonsens... Why do we not have these issues overhere in EU? Well, for one the cars are great but not nearly as neglected as in the US or Can. Secondly, service is actually pretty good and affordable unlike the many crooky dealers across the pond. Just look at the state of many cars in the US. Or watch an episode of just rolled in....
Your solution for the stuck CV axle was genius.
You have patience...and ingenuity, very rare these days
A chicken bone fell out from the CV axle!
That car had to have been on the streets of: Atlanta, Memphis or New Orleans at some point t in its life!
Mechanic’s eating on the job?
Simon Mercedesman with a clever arc welded solution, once again....

ill never understand how people let their cars get to a state like this. it's either negligence or just not having enough money
I worked for Mercedes Benz they almost 300 an hour you took good advice don't let get you down
The Autoparts city guy would like "That thing's going into the crusher" The minute he sees that rusted door.

I like the way you charge your watch from one wrist to the other, every video
You've got skills mate, well done 👍

Love the content. You should have an endorsement deal with Tide detergent. Definitely dirty jobs.
“Beater” is a significant understatement for this poor car.
I love it. Such an inspiration to me)
15:16 I would’ve had to have captioned something like, “I won”

😱 Obviously the complete car is extremely neglected! 🙈
Just noticed the snap off bleed nipple 😂😂😂😂
The guide pin tool in the tool kit would help with the wheel install.
very good mechanical skills
Thanks!
Unglaublich gut gemacht

You're new winter beater I would drive till the wheels fall plus you have armor to protect you
What happened to the rusted door? I'll think you get your feets wet when it´s raining. 🙂
Exceptional!
you forgot to put the bone back
Egads! How embarrassing.
respect💪💪
Brilliant job!! At 15:34 was that the engine mount you replaced?
Thanks! That was the mount, I just removed it to better access the axle.
That is one rough Merc.....
Oooooh hell yes. I’m a closet old Benz fan
I mean here in Georgia that thing would not have a speck of rust! And that looks like a late c model too like a 05?
Minnesota is part of the Rust Belt😂
Give me a Ford anyday
Good job! Where are the kitties?
I hadn't started putting them in the videos yet
The body goes faster then the mechanical problem ..
Who says you can’t use a claw hammer.
4×4,?
German sports c280 ah okay
🤗👍👌💯

Ok then, your wrong
We drove Leopard tanks here in Australia. In our harsh environment, they performed very well, reliable and smooth.

W203 C- class Mercedes we’re far less reliable than their predecessor model , the W202.

It's just a box on wheels. They are are all just boxes on wheels.
