Not initially.But as you say...resolution.....
Nice 'effect' to duplicate that DSLR look, but try printing anything other than 5x4, see what you get!

The 100% zoom at the end there seemed a bit unfair on the iPhone.
Thanks Attilio for the comparison. I bought the app after your first video and took it on a short holiday. I used it to take long exposure for the sea and a jetty. It came out great and I have printed a 13 x 19 inch print that looks awesome. Could a DSLR have greater detail, probably, but from normal viewing distance I would say it would only be marginal. I think this app is great. It does drain the battery though so its probably not suited to a day of shooting long exposures. Glad to see you are back into photography. I am thinking about those magnetic filters as well.

Very interesting and informative video! Even though I made the switch to mirrorless, as I am getting older, I find it my gears to be still heavy, so I'm not tempting to bring those with me. I will probably buy the Reeflex wide and telephoto lenses for my iPhone 14 Pro with those tiny tiny 48mpx and enlarge it with Topaz Mega Pixel Ai. Really curious how it will look like!
I sold my Canon kit and am now using iPhone 14 Pro as my camera. Heading to Iceland this September .....will be interesting to see what I can creat!
I beleive the main direrence is in printing, looking the pictures in a phone or computer do not require a high dpi.

Really good comparison, I’d be curious to know if the reflex lens caused any reduction in sharpness because unlike the DSLR that’s a lens on top of a lens (if that makes sense). Although to be fair, I guess the DSLR had filters in front of the lens balance this out.
Well ! Where are we going with photography ? That is the question......we probably have choice to get satisfaction and pleasure to make a photo or the automatism of taking a photo with a phone. And so, when I am making a photo with my DSLR, I am sure my mother-in-law will not call at this precise moment ! Thanks Attilio to share this interesting comparison.

I love this capability. I do not often take my DSLR and tripod on hikes, but sometimes run across scenes perfect for a long exposure. I'll have to experiment with the app.

Great comparison video Attilio. As you had cited, the details and resolutions captured by the iphone still lack as compared to DSLR.

When you brought the iPhone imagine in did you change the mode from 8 bit to 16 bit or did you leave it at 8 bit
It will definitely affect processing the image if you didn’t change it to 16 bit
And if printing it the iPhone is usually like 70 something dpi whereas my Nikon is 300 dpi so when printing you need to figure that out to

iPhone images. I'm going to be using the iPhone 14 exclusively on my next rip to Iceland.
did you try using just the iphone built in lens rather than attaching another lens? Would the results for iphone be just as good?

Resto dell'idea che x le foto da social o x "emergenza" può andare bene anche lo smartphone ma il dettaglio rimane migliore quello di una fotocamera e soprattutto (cosa fondamentale x me) la lunga esposizione della fotocamera è VERA, quella dello smartphone è artefatta.

It would be really interesting…
40 MP sounds amazing, BUT the iphone can only have tiny individual pixel sizes( e.g. 1.3µm as opposed to 4µm in Canon 5d for instance), which equals poorer overall resolution. The lens is also a factor, as is the maximum aperture.

If you look at the Apple web site and the new iPhone 14 it appears to be the only device you'll ever need. I guess Nikon, Sony, and others should call it quits.

Thank you Atillio, as always totally awesome video and comparison. A few years ago my friend was saying his Apple could beat my Canon 5D4. I told him, challenge accepted, however, I would use my Rebel Xt, 8mp crop sensor dinosaur. Ok, out of camera the Apple iphone was better until we did some color corrections and sent the files to Costco to print an 8x10 of each, thd iphone image failed completely. So iphone is great for Instagram, but past that I will continue to create with dslr.
