- 2 bears and 2 moose visit the off-grid homestead this week while I deal with heavy rain and the threat of tornadoes while making a leather mask for my bark spud, finish the cabin foundation walls, start backfilling, plants fig trees in a new log raised bed in the greenhouse and more.

Just another astounding video. For me I have to say that I think the ballance of prolific work, Cali being her wonderful self, and the 'Arty bit' at the end; is perfect. Some of the compositions angles and colour combinations were sublime. I feel like I've been meditating, seen an osteopath and had a massage all at once, I'm so relaxed now I coul.... zzzzz zzzz. Many thanks to Shawn for sharing with us his life and goals. I am 70 and have met thousands of people in my working life. This man has the qualities knowledge and skills that are beyond compare. This video touches each one of us in a different way. Relaxing in my chair sipping my tea watching his video is so rewarding. “we are big fan”, i've been watching your videos with my lovely wife from the beginning. always inspired by the hard word you put into living in the woods, your relationship with your family and of cause Cali (your dog). The hard work you put out in editing your videos shows ,because they are great. as a retired police officer and stuck to a wheelchair,(because of health issues), it's always great to see hard work and something you strongly believe in that is helpful & healthy put out their on video so other can enjoy and be inspired. There's something so relaxing about the thought of working in a workshop in the middle of the woods during a rainstorm.
A dog truly is "man's best friend". It is so comforting and heart warming to watch you and Cali together... being there for one another... it's amazing!

The two have something beautiful. I think Cali would pine for her human daddy, if they were ever separated for a long period of time.

What I like about these videos is that there isn't an excessive amount of chatter. I can literally play the video, and watch the man building things. Excellent!
my Grandfather and my father made many of these Sheaths for their tools. They are still in use. My Grandfather was a carpenter (chalet builder) and my father was a carpenter and cabinetmaker and my brother was a carpenter and cabinetmaker. I seldom saw a tool without a sheath. I still have a few of my Grandfathers tools, protected by sheaths…..I use the leather needle to repair my sued leather slippers…..
Your workshop is awesome, and the solar powered lights are a real boon to off grid life! I bet they are saving you from eye strain, lol. The light really helps to show off the beauty of the wood inside, too.
And it must be so nice to have the greenhouse: such an open, bright, and airy space to get out of the elements!

Farming is damaging to the environment and I'm sure if the beasts had their say, they'd rather be taken out by a bullet as they happily grazed rather than having to queue, while being absolutely terrified, to get shot with a retractable bolt, like they use in the abattoirs. I grew up on a farm and I can barely tolerate meat as a result.

The speed at which your plants of vegetables become edibles up north there, makes my head spin. Your bee, butterfly, etc. attractions, of echinacea, bee balm, etc. look great too. My dad used to tool saddles in his spare time. I’ve wondered if lots of rain in summer coincides with heavy snowfalls in winter. I think all the increased volcanic activity under the oceans, which heats the water, is contributing to weather changes. You are a great example for bewildered young people. Thanks
I enjoy watching what you do on your off grid place I am 75 lived in Eastern Washington in a log home for 20 years now live in Tennessee add a regular house is so enjoyable to watch you and your dog and your family love the progress

Having a basement on your cabin is going to be worth all the extra time. Just having that extra space is going to be huge. And very valuable in the winter. Got some great looking wildlife passing through appreciate the show😀. This rain has been relentless the past month but I guess we should be happy it's not a drought. Haha, George, living such a life is not really for me. But for some reason I really enjoy tuning in to see what Shawn is doing. Maybe it's the quality of the visuals, his life is like a living piece of art. Also the methodologies Shawn is employing are very interesting. Then there's the extremes he has to plan for, especially the cold weather. There's so many things about what he's doing that interests me. Also I find Shawn to be a very sincere and genuine person, which makes a big difference.

The weather is getting from bad to worse, seeing that vast areas are flooded and others have had droughts for years. There is a saying that there is no bad weather, only the wrong clothing, but I believe this goes far beyond. So glad, you got that greenhouse, outhouse, workshop and another roof which is to be seen finished

My state is in a severe drought. I can't remember the last time we had a good storm.
Hopefully it's not causing any flooding issues at the cabin.
I stood on my doorstep and filmed a very short video of torrential rain here in the UK and sent it to ny friend in Los Angeles so that he could enjoy the sound.

I wish you would make an 8+ hour long video with a black screen of those rain sounds. I bet I would finally sleep all night listening to that. I know there are some on CZcams but a lot of them try to hard and alter the sounds. Yours is so pure and peaceful. Oh and you could even add some of your fire crackling sounds. When I start to feel anxiety coming on I turn on your videos and almost instantly feel calm. (The bad thing about living on a big city, you have to go to CZcams to get the effects of nature). The reason I suggested a black screen is so it can be played all night without disturbing light. 😊
Shawn, you will never run out of things to do. It’s a life long lifestyle. It was such a shame that you had to leave four years of hard work and dedication behind. However, I think this new journey will be even more exciting and rewarding then the last. You’re not a quitter and nothing can stand in your way. You have genuine character. We can learn a lot from you just as a human being alone.
When someone uses tools and not put back in proper place always causes problems. I notice you always put them back where they are handy. :)

I've been watching for awhile, but I am loving this new build and the adventures. The green house is wonderful. I'm a 74 yo female and actually knew a little bit about the leather crafting you did in this video from past hobbies of mine. Everything you do is fascinating to watch. If possible, could you send some of that rain to the Mojave Desert in California, we are really drying up out west.
That is a good wet day project making the bark spud leather cover, and building more greenhouse beds too, Shawn. (Another kind of spuds?) Especially with Cali's company beside you. Please be careful up ladders alone, and hammering towards your knees .. eek I always enjoy your gentle nature and drone closing footage.

I here there a damaging tornado in Barrie 2-3 days ago. Calli looks so graceful swimming from the underwater view, good therapy for her. Looks like you have moved into the wildlife’s home territory, some big neighbors they are. 🐝 love the bees and the wildflowers too.
The whole time you were working on the beds in the greenhouse, I could see a raised bed on each side of the center bed, if it’s center in the middle. Then, I’d take and add a triangular/edge shaped raised bed in between each “square” side bed. Then you can plant herbs 🌼 and flowers 🌸 in them and attract more bees! 🐝
Send y’all’s excess rain west BC, Sask, WA, OR, CA, NV, UT.
*thats, triangular wedge shaped bed in between the 4- “square” beds on each side of center bed…make sense?
