- Around this time of year, Some North american rail companies would run holiday trains to bring joy and celebration for the Christmas Season, while also supporting food banks across the nation. In this video, i'll be giving you 10 facts about some of North America's Iconic Holiday Trains.
So, this is a new type of video i'm trying out, doing these fact-type videos. If there is a positive reception to this video, i'll likely make do more of these for some locomotive rosters and railroads in the near future. Nonetheless, hope you all enjoy!

Very nice! Pere Marquette 1225 is also a good example since the Steam Railroading Institute runs it every year from Owosso, MI to some small town I forgot the name of. Oh well, I can at least say I’ve ridden behind it multiple times as a little kid tho!
Ashley Michigan is the town I believe
@@santinotrainsyes that’s the place! Ty!
I just chased her all the way from Owosso to Ashley trolley amazing site except the whole fact I got COVERED in ash
Oh, you mean the POLAR EXPRESS?!!!!
I think PM 1225 came back this year after an overhaul, idk when the overhaul began but it’s back and running
The Moscow Metro in Russia also has a holiday train using old 1970s subway cars, it looks great!
Nice video! The BN’s holiday train’s caboose is still around and currently based out of Lincoln, Nebraska. It still has some of the old aspects of the train with “Santa Train Service Only” stenciled on the sides and green and white candy cane handrails.
This was a cool video. Makes me wish I had some holiday trains near me this year, CN hasn’t run the Santa Train since 2019 on the US lines.
BNSF is like your uncle who forgot your birthday and whiped up a $2 gift in a Dollar General
So California used to have an actual Christmas Train. It was from Metrolink and it used to be ran with cooperation of local fire departments and toys for tots.
They used to do a performance, you'd see Santa, Rudolph, Frosty, Mrs. Clause, And an elf. It was discontinued in early 2010s due to budget cuts.
It used to be ran by one of the last original F40PHs operating in California & a F59PH
KCS 0-8-0 1023 (the sole surviving KCS steam locomotive and the oldest KCS locomotive in existence) would be very perfect for the KCS holiday train to replace that nightmare flatcar
Unique facts about the holiday trains. Thomas christmas music goes good here.
You should try to make a part 2! There is so much info left out.
Awesome video!
I actually seen one of the CPKC holiday train at Bensenville IL
Thanks Halton for covering my local division, the CSAO. Sad to see this train's days will be numbered, although I'm sure Chesapeake & Delaware will have a good replacement.
Another theory I have for CP switching to the GP20C-ECOs is because its a smaller engine and doesnt use as many lights and were also recently rebuilt
I'm hoping to see 2249 and it's consist when it arrives here in Vancouver later in the month!
I love the video! Keep it up!
I knew the Canadian National holiday train, I find it very interesting along with CSX
fact #11 the CP holiday train loves to come during my school time
With csx's recent purchase of Pan Am Railways, it'd be pretty cool if the CSX Santa train and the CP holiday train did a shared event at Northern Maine Junction.
The KCS Holiday Express is actually out running this year.
@@RailAceProd8501 that's no good up here
I love clinchfield 800
BN holiday train is presumed scrapped. I caught the boxcar in a manifest in 2013/2014
love the video, but the pronunciation of Oregon was wild, and as an Oregonian I can not let that slide 💀💀💀
CP 8638 also ran the cp holiday train
Forgot to mention the KCS train being run by FP9s
As someone who loves in kc I've seen the nightmare fuel first hand
I Love to Film the CP Holiday Train! It’s an Awesome Thing to See. Awesome Information btw. :D
fun fact the fec out of all railroads does a santa train
I'm surprised you didn't mention Pere Marquette 1225, but anyways its still a good video on this topic
AWESOME!
So slight note: Oregon Rail Heritage foundation does not run the 4449 anymore on the holiday express. Oregon Pacific, the shortline that owns the railroad had said the big northerns cause too much wear and tear on their trackage and so they have to run small steam locomotives. Polson Logging Co #2 is on loan to them for such reason until they get their Mt Emily Shay #1. Additionally, back in the early 2000's Spokane Portland and Seattle 700 used to do a short jaunts between Portland Oregon to Vancouver WA carrying Santa into town and coming nose to nose with a Gevo you could take a cab tour of in a gold spike type style where Santa would get off the train and photo opportunities were held. I fondly remember going to these when I was little and it was always a lot of fun.
You seem to have forgotten the king of Holiday trains:
Pere Marquette 1225 (aka the real Polar Express).
The Durango and Silverton narrow gauge railroad (previously a D&RGW branch line), does polar express trains 3 times a night. They get 1 of their locomotives and put polar express lettering on the tender. They put banners all over Main Street. And give you hot chocolate, cookies, magazines and a bell on the ride. A couple miles down the line they turn around at the wye that they call the North Pole. They have the hero boy, Santa and lots of elves wave at the train as it turns around. Before you get there the lights in the coaches go out and you and every other passenger has to say “I believe” to get them back on. They also play music and have waiters dance to the hot chocolate song. Probably one of the best polar express train ride experiences. This year they have 480 pulling the train. Last year they had 481, which had a 5 chime equipped. Sounded very similar to the polar express! They also have a box car in the yard that they put a fake campfire in and have an actor act the hobo.
How did you forget the literal pollar express
uhh buddy your info on the ORHC is out of date, 4449 hasn't run in atleast 2 years on the holiday express. Its been replaced by polson logging #2.
I doubt you will see this but did you happen to change your pfp? i noticed that the locomotive has ditch lights now, i dont remember there being ditch lights on it.
Why TF did KCS decide that face was a good idea?!
You miss pronounced Oregon. Otherwise interesting vid
hi cowl
I missed the Canadian Pacific this year :(
Great video! Love all those holiday trains! If only BNSF and UP did them now
3:31 You mispronounced Oregon with orgin
4:04 America wasn't nice to James...
God that sd40-3 is ugly
I like this
But i can respect your opinion
