What a treat to see a Young man appreciate the quality of a Rover 75. Now you need to try the MGZT version. The looks are more youthful & with the 18" wheels & suspension changes the handling is far more lively.
Well.....to be honest, I am one of the fabled "pipe and slippers" men. (I am a Senior Citizen aka pensioner: I don't even have a smart phone.). So this was a lesson for me. It's interesting for me to reflect that I would prefer a CD and analogue radio. Ah, well. Thanks for posting the video though. I am really looking forward to owning a Rover 75 V-6 some day. Keep up all the interesting info and your experiences with your Rover 75.
@@tomdrives Do you have any input on the audio quality from this head unit? I have the stock Harman/Kardon sound system which sounds incredible with the stock satnav head unit I have in mine, I want to upgrade but that's one thing I'm worried about since I like my music.
Usually I don't like these aftermarket head units for the different fonts on buttons than on other buttons around the interior (might be a weird one but this really messes with my head)and lower quality overall than the rest of the interior, but carplay for this cheap? I may get one of these for my 75, too, even though I like the stock satnav head unit I have in mine for the oldschool looks. Only thing I'm worried about is the sound quality since my car has the stock Harman/Kardon system and it sounds phenomenal to this day with the stock unit. Do you have an input on that? Thanks for the idea!
I put an aftermarket radio in my 75 and regretted it. Ended moving back to the original setup and embracing the CD player by expanding my CD collection. It also niggled me that I couldn't use the wheel controls on the new radio which I'm assuming you can't on your setup? (I hope I'm wrong because that would be cool) For me the modern setup in the 75 didn't quite work. It was like seeing a plasma TV in an old stately home. I must say though you have chosen the best looking screen 👌
Question for you with these Android-based radios, for Google Maps to work, does it utilize your own phone signal once connected either via cable or Bluetooth or is it a separate peripheral that communicates in a similar way to SatNavs from companies such as TomTom?
It uses your phones hotspot or a SIM card if you have a dongle installed. It does have GPS built in but not the capability to run google maps without downloading offline maps even then the features are not “proper” google maps like an the phone so you ideally need an internet connection hence why I went with CarPlay, Hope that helps :)

Have you ever considered adding some additional interior 'bling' to your Rover? Chrome trim on the airvents, extra 'walnut' trim on the aircon control panel, etc.
Do you really need this in a Rover 75? I have owned quite a few and the original set up with Analogue TV and Sat Nav was a revelation 20 plus years ago. The screen was so small that my friend described it as ANT TV! Pipe and Slippers cars?
Tom, this is the current Price for this unit on Ebay.... £646.79.. I just bought a lovely Rover 75, V6, Con, full leather etc. (ok needs a bit of work..) . for about the same money.. You need to update the pricing.
I prefer Android Auto, my Sony Xperia™ is Android. I do like your new head unit. When I use Android Auto in a friend's vehicle, I use tune in app, which streams radio stations. Voice control sucks. And I do all the programming as a passenger, no way could I be bothered whilst driving!
I used to use TuneIn but my two favourite stations went a while ago, I've never used Android auto but I'd like to try it. The only annoying thing about mine is the voice control (as with most devices with it) it cuts you off too early especially when you're giving it a big address or location name.
Hi there mate. Just a question if u can please answer Before I go and buy one. Will the steering wheel controls work volume ect for the new unit. And do u need to be a wizz to get them working or just plug and go cheers
I had this problem and it bugged the hell out of me and I ended up changing back to the original radio lol. I believe there is an extra adapter you can buy that you plug in though I'm not sure if this would work or not. Check the Rover 75 forum and I'm sure someone will have dinner it.

yes, the first 1 series was a pretty good car it’s the ones after that made it worse. The whole premium hatchback thing is a bit of a drag especially the attitudes of some of the owners. I do like the smaller coupes though like the CLC and the 2 series but they do come across a bit pointless.
I wouldn’t use that link, the guys I bought it off I assume got some sales because of the link and have decided to double the price… mine is 8.8 that’s the screen size anyway. I’d just search Erisin Rover 75 AppleCarPlay on eBay it’ll bring up a few at the same price I paid
I don’t know why they’ve put it up, pro tip just search the title or keywords from it. I’m not affiliated with the seller nor do I make any money it’s simply a recommendation

Brilliant video and that head unit really brings your Rover 75 up to date and it suits the car so well as if it had been factory fitted
Thanks Glen, I love it had to stay up until 10 fitting it so it was all sorted the night before I came down 😂
You did a good job there Tom well done 👍
There is also an updated climate control unit to get hold of if you want to modernize further. I personally think this looks great though. =)

Great clip Tom. Sorry what is the make and model of your new stereo?
My Rover 75 connoisseur has the Blaupunkt CD 32 radio CD player that came with it.
I would stay original if I could but ah I like the modern tech with an older car
Nice review, where did you get the Walnut gear knob?

Looks great. How's the sound?
Hi mate do you recommend getting one are they long lasting? I’ve got the exact same rover with same interior. Absolutely love the car.
Great to see this video, how has it lasted 3 years on?
Still fantastic
Another awesome video! Can you come to Sydney and install one for me :-)

I might add chrome stuff to the wheel (where the leather meets the wood) but I haven’t seen anything else I really want to put in

how is it without hard wiring the iphone, did you try connecting via bluetooth any echo when doing hands free calls ?

No echo with hands free and CarPlay doesn’t work without a cable but the radio (the android part) does work with Bluetooth :)
