I actually implemented this fix today. Two of my slats had broken due to this flaw (they snapped right in the finger joint) and was trying to figure out a solution until I stumbled across your video. Ikea doesn't sell the replacement slats separately for the Nordli, so I went to Home Depot and got some lumber(which is better than the finger jointed ones that came with the bed) and the 2 x 4's. Followed your instructions to the "T", except my floor is a little uneven so I had to vary a bit on the measurements. Thanks Dr. Demp!

Why can't more people make videos like this. Helpful, includes all relevant information and to the point. No need for endless fake comedy and a bunch of BS just a decent video.

I just bought this bed hours ago. I really like this bed and can't wait for it to come. After I finish putting it together, I'm going to the Depot to get wood and get this extra work done. Thanks for the video.

I got the king size Nordli bed and it’s my worst nightmare. I can’t recommend this bed to anyone. It sinks in the middle and it’s soooo uncomfortable. Thanks for the video

wow you're a genius. I have been contemplating to buy this bed or not, but now I will buy it and do exactly what you did for center support. I hate when a mattress sinks in the middle. Hopefully NORDLI gives you a reward for fixing their design flaw. Good stuff man.

I just finished following these instructions last night. Bought 3 - 8 foot 2x4's from Lowes, sat them on the ground to make sure they were decently level before I put them in my cart. I have a wood floor but it is uneven, so I had to tweak the sizes of the support 2x4's slightly larger (ie 10 1/4" or 9 5/8"). Also, I cut 66" for the long supports just to get more wood under the end caps. This saved me so much pain. Thanks so much for this, so glad I searched before building the bed, I wasn't feeling good about no central supports.

Soooooo, the fix is to just build your own bed frame?

  • @brodielentinello8885

SUPER RANDOM. But fun fact....standard milk crates are the PERFECT height to exactly slide under the slats with almost no gap. Each one can support 3 boards fully. As some rubber mat for grip and it's an easy peasy fix. Just in case someone needs a temporary go to!

ikea make some nice simple plain minimalist looking stuff, sadly the material quality is really cheap and the standard is very poor. Exactly why some of their stuff is cheap... some other stuff is way overpriced though especially their bigger items like sofas... way too much for the standard of materials... their foam seats just aren't comfortable after 6 months.

I was really looking forward to getting this bed. But seeing the extra steps, money and time that I would have to invest in it I will get something else. If anyone has suggestions for a storage bed that is good and doesn't require more work after putting it together, I would truly appreciate it. Thanks for your honest review, it saved me from an aggravation.

Thank you so much for this! 🙌🏽 It def helped save alot of time and hassle searching for extra support. This worked perfectly for our king size Nordli as well. We have carpet, so just increased the length of 2x4s.

Even the double needs a center support. Thanks for the video. I might even use the steel center bar from the old bed. 😊

For carpet, I used 2x4 wood and did the following measurements!
