    Yes, while that is King George the 5th class, That specific ship is the "Prince of Wales" the Battleship that was with the Hood. When she was destroyed. It was a PBY crew that rediscovered the Bismarck after she looped back over her own wake to loose the trailing British ships.

  • @bosunbones.8815
    @bosunbones.8815 Před 2 lety +6

    As for the PBY catalina. Britain bought 200 of them in 1940.
    Apparently PBY-5 No. AH545 flew out of Loch Erne flown by Ensign Leonard Smith, a US co-pilot and Brit officer Denis Briggs, to scout Bismarck on May 26th.

      @eagleotto2527 Před 2 lety +2

      From what I read, the US wasn't in the war yet, but their were a few training Brit pilots on the catalina's. They were not suppose to engage targets during the war, but oopsie ;)

  • @НиколайЗавьялов-г2д

    18:43 It is "Prince of Wales" battleship, of "King George the 5th" class. This battleship was with "Hood" in Dutch strait. "Hood" was destroyed by "Bismark", "Prince of Wales" got several hits from "Bismark", but continued stalking. And "Bismark" had to reverse a bit, firing "Prince of Wales", to force him to change his moving vector. And this allowed "Prinz Eugen" to go to the open Atlantic.
    "King George the 5th" appears on 31:11

    You are to hard on yourself. Your initial reaction picked up more than any other person reacting to Bismarck, by far. Be proud of yourself.
    I am from Sweden. You should pronounce Sweden as you do in English. Just normal pronounciation. In Swedish it is "Sverige". You do not need to know that. We do not mind. 😊
    Love your reactions. ❤👍

    It was not the "King George" but the "Prince of Wales" who opened fire at 05:53 on the Bismarck at 26,500 yards. HMS Prince of Wales was sunk 10 december 1941 by a Imperial Japanese Navy torpedo air attack!

    There were many interesting naval battles in the Atlantic and Mediterranian. Everything from small skirmishes to regular naval battles. The sinking of Bismarck is the most known, but Royal Navy lost only 16 warships in battle against the japanese . The Royal Navy lost 162 to german and 58 to italian.
    The Krigsmarine had in few years prior to the war grown rapidly. In 1940, the Kriegsmarine lost most of their surface fleet in the Norwegian campaign.

    Great video and dont worry we all do mistakes
    I would like to point on something
    When Robert Ballard and he΄s team find Bismarck with the robot submarine , they NEVER find any hole in the sides of the ship
    And its totally understandable cause germans didnt want the ship fell in allies hands , so when the biplanes start to hit with the torpiles Lindemann give the order (possible cause Lütjens was dead) to those who couldnt survive to start sunk the ship and to the rest who could survive to take the life jacketσ and abadoned the ship
    Bismarck was so powerfull on his defence system (44% of his steel was for defence) that even if the french and english fleet together try all day they wouldnt sunk it and i bet for that

    Ay, no reason to be so hard on yourself, i used to be big on dinosaurs when i was young, probably couldn´t tell you half of them today.
    Minerals too, considering i was born in a town that was once worldfamous for Gem and Mineral Trade and craft, i forgot WAY too much XD
    If you play World of Warships you´re actually able to tell what shiptype at least or sometimes what exact ship you´re looking at, from just the silhouette.
    I immediately recognized that it´s a Battleship, and being in the Bismarck Video there was no other candidate but the King George. :P

    hi old skool the battle ship in the video was the twin to king george the prince of wales which was sunk by the japanese. And had to retire because it was still being fitted
    out by civilians and it did hit the bismarck.

    15:48 - no saratoga and lexington was not initially built as carriers, when their keels was laid down they were designed to be battlecruisers.
    yorktown, hornet and enterprise though were designed from the ground up as fleet carriers.
    ark royal was the first ever fleet carrier built that was initially designed as one, all previous ones were converted from battleship, battlecruiser or cruiser hulls.
    hms furious which was the first one converted into carriers during ww1 although in the beginning she was only halfway converted into carrier, the front half had a flight deck, still had her single 18 inch gun turret at the stern, that gun turret was quickly removed to add a landing deck on the stern, the superstructure was still poking up through the deck so when the planes had landed, they had to dismantle the wings to get it past the superstructure to the launching deck in the front. even that was quickly changed into the command bridge being mounted on the side of the flight deck but they still didnt fully know how to deal with the funnel and its exhaust smoke, just like the japanese had issue with on akagi and kaga.
    18:42 - its not the hms king george v (shortened kgv) either, it was hms prince of wales (shortened pow), pow was a kgv class so they were practically identical, kgv did participate in the battle against bismarck but the initial fighting was just hood and pow vs bismarck and prinz eugen. hms norfolk and hms suffolk did trail bismarck and prinz eugen but never engaged in the battle, they just kept track of them after spotting them with their radar and radiod the british naval hq for a time before they had to get back for fuel.
    31:55 - only 3 sailors survived the devastating explosion of hms hood.

    If only they made a song about the GUY ... Bismarck ... the one responsible for reuniting Germany in 1871 ... creating the pretense for the war against France, "buying" Bavaria's consent, his great relationship with Kaiser Wilhelm I. ... and how everything went down the drain when Wilhelm II. "fired" him.

    My dad was also in the Pacific campaign of WW2, but I bet you didn't know that the "Repulse" and the "Prince of Whales", were sunk, not even a year after sinking the Bismarck. By planes of the Imperial Japanese Navy, in the Malaya. sank them in less than a half hour..

    It's such an annoying thing, I ones saw an online article about German football/soccer fans and the picture showed in this article had a girl in it with the Belgian flags instead of the German ones on her cheeks. I wonder if anybody from Belgium reads this does this flipping the flags thing happen to you, too?
