Really nice to see this Volvo getting love, attention and care! Especially one with the CVT makes it a special car that deserves to survive.
Hey glad your enjoying the content it’s definitely a fun car to work on. Just hope it runs next 🤞
Huge difference! Great to see it transform
Cheers definitely looks more loved now aha
A cleaner happier car. Probably run like a dream once it’s started 😊
Definitely just wanted it nicer inside for working in that pedal and getting it moving
i absolutely love the simplicity of the dash board and its still in such great condition no cracks in the dash
Yeah I am a massive fan of that very Volvo and functional 👍
A friend had a blue-grey one he inherited from his granny. We occasionally went trainspotting in it and I remember changing gears from the passenger seat for some reason. The driver pressed the clutch and told me what gear he wanted and I'd change. Went surprisingly smoothly.
What cool memories! Thanks for watching 👍
Excellent to see this being cleaned up. My mum has three back to back both pre and post facelift like this.. fond memories of being taken to school in them and even having a few driving lessons!
Oh great glad you enjoyed this little car hopefully it will be back out on the road again in time. Sounds like you have some fab memories!
I absolutely LOVE this little car. These have a huge attachment for me , my mum had a T reg one I used to drive on private land when I was about eight ! Hopefully one day I’ll own one ❤
Cheers Gareth glad you like this little thing thanks for watching.
Exceptional to see the resto in flight. Lovely patina too. I was never a fan in the day but I have to say I’m a convert now. Great colour, quality build and what a lovely sounding door shut. Great save Marc.
Glad you like this one. It was shocking to see it come up as well as it did but let’s see what happens later down the line.
you must get this car back on the road !!! what a brilliant little classic 80's car !!!!!! love it
This is the plan buddy can't wait to get it moving.
Nice project, enjoying watching. Stock restore would indeed be nice. From memory the colour is called Aubergine, my Dad had a 66 in that colour, lovely
Thanks glad your enjoying this one. Cheers for the colour update 👍
When you get to cleaning under the bonnet, if you haven't already give the Griot's engine cleaner a try. I've found it works pretty well.
Love how this is coming back to life!
Cheers thanks I will bare that in mind. 👍
Like you said, it does need a respray but how satisfying to clean the interior to make it palatable to work in and machine polish to see the difference, nice job, I really hope you can save it.
Yes it defiantly does need a respray for sure but the main thing is to get it on the road. Cheers for watching.
Never seen a throttle pedal on the left. I think with a good service it will start up. The B14, Renault C1J engine is bulletproof.
No me neither, I am really hoping that this is the case looking forward to hearing it run.
The paintwork reminds me of spending a lot of hours with my Dad when I was a kid T-Cutting a Wolsley 16/60 he'd just bought. The maroon paint on the 2 tone finish was just like your 340s paint but in the 70s we didn't have a machine polisher! Funny thing was it was a trade in cheaply at Buchanan's in Glasgow, the Volvo main dealer at the time.
Thanks for watching glad this has bought some memories back.
A great job. Sun damage is something I haven't fully understood but, on all the cars I have owned, the sides, despite getting dirt and brake dust splashed on them, hold up much better than the any of the flat surfaces like the roof and the bonnet. Even waxes and other protection products fail on the roof and bonnet long before the sides. Good case for topping up protection on the flat surfaces more frequently.
Hey thanks for watching glad you enjoyed this one, yeah I think thus having been sat for so long has suffered but none the less I love patina and hopefully the oily bits and getting it running mean this car has a chance of the road again.
My 2000 Honda Civic had paint issues too, and I decided to sand the paint first, and the results were very good! You can use a 800/1500/2000/3000 sand and then polish. It's gonna look very smart!
Thanks yes ideally that's what it needs but I didn't go mad as at the time the car didn't run or move so didn't want to invest to much time on it. Cheers for the tips moving forward.
@@SimpsonsClassics always a pleasure!
That interior looks mint!!
Thanks it’s definitely come up nice once the seats and carpets are wet vac’d it should be even better
Getting there now! Really looking forward to hearing this run 👍 that throttle pedal though…😂
Cheers I can’t wait to hear it run either. Yes that pedal needs to be addressed 🤣
Love the content Marc, I have never ever seen a pedal arrangement like that, is it even legal lol. I also love how the front seat backs angle forward to give more room for entering and exiting the back seat, wish my Mini was like that. Take care !!!
Glad your enjoying the content Patrick thanks for watching. Yes it’s legal but just not for me at all aha yeah it’s a nice touch isn’t it big massive comfy seats to. All the best 👍
I'm amazed at how generally rot free this car is considering how long it's sat for! most cars would have disintegrated sitting out in the elements for so long.
It really isn't to bad if you have a look about on the channel you will see we have far rustier cars.
Got caught up on the videos for this car this morning. Perfect timing!! 👍
That’s great hope you like the plans for the car 👍
@@SimpsonsClassics absolutely yes!! Lately I've developed a love for the old Volvo. I totally love what you're doing for the car. I'd like to own a Volvo like this one day.
@@tmajcan94 oh that’s great you can’t beat a old Volvo they are such good cars and very well made! Enjoy the journey with this one also check out our 940 turbo and Volvo Amazon project
@@SimpsonsClassics oh nice yeah I definitely will. That was actually next on my list.
Great video Marc. It's slowly coming back to life . Love the led light bar you had for the interior great bit of kit .. can't wait for the first start of this .. I have to say I'm not a Volvo man but have a soft spot for it
Cheers buddy appreciate that, Yeah, I found it on amazon and thought it would come in handy for sure. It's an odd little car for sure.
@@SimpsonsClassics it's the odd little ones in 10 years time will be worth the most money mate
@@johndaly2180 yep because no one loved them in their hay they might be worth something later down the line
Wow, that colour is really nice! Strange pedal setup too, not something I’ve ever seen before
The colour is great isn’t it really love it. Yes it’s a very odd set up isn’t it. It will be put back to the correct way as soon as I can.
Done well mate ❤
Thanks buddy.
I think that cleaning kit would be for the cassette player? Love all the paraphernalia you found! This is such a great rescue and so worth saving. Even the colour is fab for the vintage of the car. This would turn more heads than a carpark full of crappy new Audis and BMWs 🤣 just start following you on Instagram too.
Yeah maybe never seen anything like it someone told me it’s for cleaning electrical things like computers etc glad your enjoying this. Oh it’s definitely going to stand out in a carpark I mean my 940 does that to but this will definitely do that lol 😂 cheers for following along on here and Instagram I post sneak up dates on there 👍
*amazing my friend!*
Thank you! Cheers!
*Hello from Greece my friend!*
@@1PIXELCHANNEL hello thanks for watching 👍
Looking good
Thanks Roy 👍
I really love the patina on the paintwork on that car, it fascinating for me to see how the sun and rain have damaged the paintwork over the years. That car certainly tells a story just by looking at the bodywork! The paint on the bottom of the car looks mint, even if the car does get resprayed one day it would be great to try and preserve as much orignal paint as you can. The interior looks really good after a clean as well. These cars are so rare now, its amazing to see such an orginal one owner car get some love!😎👍
Yeah I have to admit I like the patina to. I think we will see how the car goes on the road then maybe get it repainted later down the line but for now it will be fine. Cheers for watching glad your enjoying the series.
get some magic erasers from B & M with that interior cleaner it will lift all the ingrained dirt out
Cheers thanks for the tip 👍
Love seeing a forgotten car being given a new lease of life
I'm doing the same with a volvo v70 she's my work car and so far is proving to be great just passed ner mot no problem
So I'm following your volvo
Great job on the initial clean up just egnor the oh you should have done that's
At least your doing a good job with the car what are they doing ????
Crack on loving the story
Cheers Ian appreciate your comment glad your enjoying the content on this little car it’s definitely come up nice on the interior and I am not finished yet. Sounds like you have a great Volvo to so all the best with that. 👍
Quite nice pants you’ve got there mate. 😁 This little car really is going well so far. You need some struts for that rear door straight away before you get a concussion! Try some peanut oil on the bumpers and trim, works wonders on the old Volvo and SAAB pieces. Can’t wait for the next vid!
Cheers, yes, I have some struts on their way to me, also a product for the bumpers to so should be able to address both of these issues soon, thanks for watching glad you're enjoying this little car.
@@SimpsonsClassics Brilliant. I’m looking forward to the full hydro vac of the interior seats and carpets. It will be as epic a transformation as you had with this first clean. Really amazed how well the seat fabric and carpet has lasted this long in a neglected “budget” car. That crack free dash is quite amazing as well.
@@weightlessliving9856 I will be sure to bring you all along for the adventure. Yes the interior is very clean on the this car and barely any wear or marks
Looks really nice love the bigger Volvo's though can't wait to see this completely finished u got anymore project Volvo in future may a 850 I wish I could come and help u I love cars
Cheers Yes I prefer the bigger volvos if you check our videos out we have a 940 turbo and a volvo amazon also I would love a 850 and a 240 one day.
I own a Škoda 120 ls in this color. Difficult color. Had a respray too. Do like this color. The patina look is kind of cool by the way.
Yea we love the colour also. However will be rocking the patina look for some time 👍
The only other time I've seen pedals set up like that was for an ex serviceman who lost his right leg and didn't want hand controls. I like rat rods so I'd be inclined to keep the paint that way, my mate has an '87 Scirocco with flat paint and he's getting it resprayed and I'm gutted. There was a thing in the aircooled VW scene in the 90's where they would find a 3 door 340 in a Breakers Yard and take those seats out for their Bugs and Fastbacks, looked great and were really comfortable.
Yes that’s the only time I have seen this pedal set up also. But the gent was walking fine apparently he just preferred it this way round which he fair enough but not something I am keeping it looks like an accident waiting to happen lol 😂 so yeah the paint will stay as is for now then maybe a re paint later down the line 👍
Interesting to see all the little historic time- windows
Glad you enjoyed it.
I have my doubts about the car but not the technician. I hope it's worth all the work you'll be doing. Cheers from New Mexico, USA.
I will my best by the car that’s all we can do. Wow thanks for watching from so far. All the best 👍
Hello, try the next time a magie eraeser, you don’t wana believe what dirt comes off (just a magic eraeser and Some APC) Unmark The Walls Magic Eraser | Whiteboard Accessories | Think Board
Oh cheers thanks for that tip 👍
How the peddles are setup I'd have been in I a wall within 100 yards 😳😂😂. The previous ower must be good with it. Also I'm confident that the car isn't a base & clear but a solid top looking at the buffing head & cloth you're using. So the sun has damaged the pigment in the top coat. Looking better though with a good polish & hoover 👌🏻.
Yes it doesn’t look fun at all but the previous owner seemed to get on well with it as his current car is converted to. Yes from looking more not sure there is a clear coat on it but definitely serious sun damage but one day hopefully if all goes to plan I can get some fresh paint on it. Cheers for watching 👍
From yuk to yea
Yeah basically aha
Great video, love the volvo series. Also the sound is really noisy, a microphone would level up the already great content ;)
Cheers thanks yes, I need to get something like that.
You did a wonderful job again! If you are brave enough make a video of this beauty going in reverse and floor it ;) CVT makes it possible to go insanely fast in reverse :D
Thanks I appreciate that. You have read my mind with the CVT this rumour has got me thinking for sure.. maybe after some tlc we can have a go aha
@@SimpsonsClassics The only thing keeping you from going backwards at top speed is the steering as far as I know - should feel properly strange effectively steering the rear axle.
some of those old volvo 340s used renault engines. they were pritty good engines back then, not like the eco-obsessed hosh posh rubbish that the sell today. most volvos 340s can run super unleaded (e5). have a look on the underside of the car for a catalytic converter if it has one its unleaded if it hasent its probably 4 star (LRP) 97 ron. as lead kills/poisons the catalytic converter. just gives you a rough guide. my dad had 3 volvos back in the day a 1988 340 1.4 GL a 1989 340 1.7 GLE reg (F160 FYG) and a 1990 740 GL (G736 XDU) the last one i spoke to the person about 15 year ago, who my dad sold it to, its in a barn under a sheet where he put it when baught it off my dad. all i remember about the 340 was the chewed exhaust boxes when my dad was alive we changed the back box and a few weeks later the middle box went. it was a company called bosal exhaust i think they used i was only about 16-17 back then learning about cars.brings back a few memories think it was the same colour as that maroon/burgundy red.
Cheers for the tips and watching yes this is a b14 Renault engine
is frosts in warrington? if you do a day there ill bring the metro!
volvo is looking good. i remember driving these some years ago, they look good, they are a good car, but i remember the driving position to be horrible !
i did think of building one for road rallying but i went the bmw way... good luck!
Hey buddy yes they have a open day on Saturday 26th there is a link to there event buddy it’s free coming along bring a car. Glad you like the Volvo thanks for watching 👍
For the warehouse opening event please follow - tidd.ly/3fnBSZ3
see you there
Until it was explained I thought they must all have that left hand accelerator pedal, scary!
Aha no this one has been changed
Great job! Does this has any clearcoat or is it a solid lacquer?
Thank you. I think it’s a solid lacquer from doing the polish.
@@SimpsonsClassics I thought so. Ideal to try to touch up using some rattle cans 😉
@@fhwolthuis yes definitely 👍
How the heck did he learn to drive with the pedals backwards? Right leg injury I guess
I thought that but after meeting him he simply just preferred it that way. It’s a little odd but fair enough. Definitely isn’t staying like that lol
@@SimpsonsClassics was there a bar across the roof as well? Looked like it in one of the internal shots
@@TheCurlyP I had a work light up there yes.
I love this projekt. Please don’t paint. It. As it is now the car tells a story. If you paint it it’s just a maroon Volvo
Agreed no real plans to paint the one buddy 👍
@@SimpsonsClassics Cool 👍 I have en Opel Rekord diesel 1974 with that kind of paint myself. It was a barn find for nearly 35 years before we got it back on the road in 2015
Needed good clay bar 1st would take lot of junk out of bonnet looks like lived under a tree
Yeah tried that it didn’t work. Paint is far to far gone for it. Cheers
