- Acoustic guitar version of Santo and Johnny's "Sleep Walk" on a 1936 Gibson L-5 by Pecos Hank. The floating pickup is a vintage DeArmond super rhythm chief 1100. For amplification I'm running through a Holy Grail reverb pedal set on "hall" and then plugged into a Fender Blues DeVille with the volume as low as it can possibly be. To mic the song for this video I'm using a room compressor mic blended with a little treble bump from the camera mic.

This cover is extremely underrated. Coming back now even in 2023 to listen to sleep walk pecos hank version! ❤
That's a beautiful Gibson from the golden era of acoustic jazz guitars.
Why is this guy here the coolest person in the world? How did this happen?
Pecos Hank is a musician, fearless storm chaser and animal rescuer. It doesn’t get any better😘
Idk but I’m totally addicted!
Wow, is this the same Pecos Hank Tornado Chaser?
And now I find out he also rescues animals (TY sum1has2sayit).
Yeah, I've got to agree with Moonawrathic, this Dude is the coolest person in the world!
I've been a practicing guitarist since 1974 and am duly impressed with his skills playing this song.
But to then play it on a '36 L5, wow, that is a whole different level.
Much Respect Sir, and thank you.
Hank is absolutely loaded with talented
That's the way it's done! Excellent arrangement.
You must have read my whining over your absence. I have really missed you, your music and tornado chasing. Thank you!
Gods! Age does matter! I have a Yamaha G-60A that was probably made in 1968 or so. I call her Belle, 'cause she rings like one.
Beautiful, Hank. Thank you.✌😸
You have no idea how much I love this man! Cheers!
That was lovely Hank, you’re not just a legendary storm chaser you are a great musician.
Always love hearing you perform. Lovely.
So sweat! Makes me want to howl at the moon!
great cover 👌
Nice axe....great playing....very cool.....What more is there to say!
Is there anything this guy can't do? Simply beautiful!
Smooth as silk,Hank. Santo and Johnny would be proud.
That sounds absolutly sweet and there are really no words! Wow.
Beautiful,
Thank you...
You pick and strum like no chaser I've ever heard.😊
Very nice. Beautiful guitar.
What a great song from my childhood! (yeah I'm that old). Thanks for all the wonderful music.
Beautimous. 😌😌
Enjoy this more each time I watch.
Bro could lullaby the Tornado to sleep with his guitar.
Lovely song, lovely rendition. You should put it in the background of one of your chase videos. Thanks for all you give to everyone! Share this, people, to everyone everywhere!
I absolutely adore this arrangement, trying to get it down in little bits and bobs as my only guitar at the mo is an old 60's Harmony archtop, it sounds beautiful but its a bit of a battle axe, especially for bar chords, just will learn the first few 8 bars or so and keep looping them everyday untill i can get them chords ringing like a bell and then hopefully the rest of the song will fall into place one my hand is strong enough. Anyway hope all is well, love the L5 too. Cheers from the UK
one word. nice.
That's the guitar sound that gets me most - that's why your music is so appealing to me. Thanks for posting.
I love this song, always have. Thanks for letting us hear Sleep Walk, by you beautifully done on a 1936 Gibson L-5. Beautiful!
So awesome! You a a poet! Musician exclamation space and a tornado hunter extraordinaire no other comes close!
Sweet as Honeysuckle on a Vine. Thanks for playing my favorite instrumental.
I come back to this cover every few months because it is so beautiful
I'd pay to hear you play. Love your music ever since I've heard it on your storm chasing channel. Please tour in Germany...just kidding. Greetings from across the pond!

My favorite instrumental. Wonderful job dude!
Awesome.........just Awesome!!!
Nice! I have been working this song up, but you've introduced me to some new tricks.
Beautiful song, guitar and performance! You've inspired to me learn it as well. I've been enjoying all your videos, Hank, and even subscribed to Wild Snakes! Thanks so much for all the cool stuff!
❤❤❤
after a week of free student labor at the hospital, and ending my Friday with a call from HR saying they're pushing my hire date ahead two more weeks after waiting two months already, this video wiped it all away. Thanks Hank, that was truly inspired.
Keep your chin up Adam, kick back this weekend, and kick some butt next week.
Vintage ... great interpretation .... very nice!!
Beautiful... enough said!
Really nice makes me calm down, I like this song
Beautiful. This guy soooo knows what he is doing.
Thanks my man.
Oh, that's beautiful! I always loved this old instrumental, and that sweet twang!
My favourite slow rock. Thx, Pecos. Blessed Christmas.
very good and smooth
Very very nice!🎸🎶🎵🎼
Very nice!
Unreal Classic 🤙👍
Such a classic, and you do it well. :)
Thanks, that was real nice
Nice job Hank.
Thanks Vicast.
Pecos Hank Np.
That was Awesomenessly Beautiful my friend love the sound out that Gibson, Thank you for that Lesson. You are Truly Blessed, Plus this is the First time I'm First and First and First.
Glad you dug it friend.
Loved the whole piece, just died at 2:19 😍
I wish I could learn how to play like that smh...love it!
Dang man i was chading a storm up here in canada and i played this on my aux when the tornado was touching down. this helped calm me as a beginner. thank you. xoxo😂😂
I have always loved that song! There is just something about it that is soothing! Jeff Beck played this really nice. Wonderful sound Hank and hope you are in the panhandle today.
Thanks Craig. I'm sitting at home deciding if I'm gonna drive to North Dakota tomorrow or watch House of Cards instead. What would you do?
Well, being that is an 18 hour drive, you better get going, like now!
S-l-o-w d-a-n-c-i-n-g in the gym.....
You can imitate the sound of pedal steel guitar by humming and squeezing your nose - "E-lectric HA-waiian PE-dal STEEL GUITAR" I once twanged along with the entire song when it came on the car radio. (It was pretty high out that night.)
Man... I love this version... Maybe in a couple years of woodshedding I'll get it under my fingers haha
VERY nice! I'm going to "borrow" some of yours, and incorporate it into some of mine! That Silvertone sounds just MAHvelous, my friend ... MAHvelous! (I play my version on a 1973 ES-355.)
👍👍
Lovely. I wonder if anyone here might know where to get hold of the ol
That's music.
Hank reminds me of Dave Grohl, if Dave Grohl drove a T.I.T and chased tornadoes and snakes while making his own background music for his videos!!!
Nice L5.
Very nice
Edit:
After watching a number of times and slowing playback down, I think I have the first few chords down.
How do you fancy doing a tutorial for this?? You know, when you have a few spare minutes, in between storm chasing, scientific research, traveling, tending your animal friends, etc....
Oops, accidentally hit post. I wonder if anyone might know where to get a connector for the Rhythm Chief, the sort that attaches to the tone control section as shown in the lovely video. I've looked all over. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks
RIIITCHIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEE!!!!!
Nice
Well done, Pecos Hank. 100th comment :p
hip!
I'm going to Guitar Center Hollywood to check out L7s. Last time I was there a guy bought one non pickup for $2700.
Most people want a cutaway with a pick up. because of this, sometimes you can score am L5 or L7 non-cuttaway at a steal. Especially from an individual.
Outstanding work hank, what a great classic! Sounds almost better on a guitar
By the way, is that the L5? Just wondering
Thanks Kyro. Yep, this is the L5.
Pecos Hank plis tabs
2:13 RITCHIE!!!
Where is Christine? in the garage maybe
Great playing. What strings do you have on your guitar. Thank You.
Cheapest flat wounds i could find. Probably 11s.
Pecos Hank thanks. It's the playing not the strings but I'm always curious about that.
.12 gauge?
Wondering, of all your guitars is this your favorite?
Have you played on any vintage Gretch guitars? They're also great guitars.
The guitar I've used most over the last 20 years is a 1965 Gretsch Tennessean. You can see and hear it in the old Southern Backtones music videos.
Awesome! I play ESP guitars. If you guys ever tour the midwest. Play at our coffee shop here in Burlington,WI. No tornadoes up here though,
What amps do you use? Fender? Matchless? I use a 6505 Peavey.
Pecos, would you please tell me the differences between a Gibson Olympic (1944) and an L7?
The biggest difference is the size. The olympic is a small archtop I believe. 15" bout maybe. Still a great guitar.
It is smaller! I went ahead and bought it! Will hit you back up when I can play it like David Rawlings plays his! Ha! Thanks for the reply! Those pickups you have on your L7 and L5 are awesome, by the way! Is that kind available on the market?
sleep walk.......
:)
Please post the chords for this
Tabs?
Do teenagers even slow-dance any more?
