Venom finds out, next night he goes to save the kid, and fights the people who were shooting at him, that he let go, kidnapped him. So, while the kid is tied up and mouth taped, Venom beats them up, but grabs the leader and holds him by his neck- The leader pleads and apologizes to Spiderman, and I can't remember what exactly Venom did, but the leader realized it wasn't Spiderman. I don't remember what happened, to how they then get to the kid being walked home, but that night is the night Venom learned to not kill. And Venom learned it from a kid, trying to emulate Peter and his sense of justice. The comic really emphasized how Venom is really like a child, who wants to grow up and become a hero, but doesn't have the moral code to follow through with because they don't understand that killing is wrong for the reason being that you fundamentally change, permanently. So the people you once wanted to protect, you can no longer relate with, or some other reasons for no-kill rule for heros. It's a great story, definitely give it a read
