The best gospel recordings of Jerry Lee's career.
A rare glimpse of the preacher he might have been.
20 well-known gospel standards including Peace In The Valley, Precious Memories and Amazing Grace.
Jerry Lee Lewis' music at its best: Forget the content and listen to the passion.
    INFORMATION
At his core, Jerry Lee Lewis has always been a gospel singer. His earliest and best records have revealed that passion, even when
he was singing about women and lovin'. Jerry's famous religious debate with Sam Phillips took place at the recording session
for Great Balls Of Fire. His musical life has always been a tug of war between God and the Devil.
The truth is, these may be the best gospel recordings Jerry ever made in his long career. "I believe in that old time religion!"
    he
shouts, and proceeds to show us why, with a little spontaneous preaching and testifying between selections. Thankfully, the
tape was rolling. These barely documented recordings from December, 1970 were made three days after he renounced worldly
music. They reveal Jerry working with his road band on the stage of a small church out on Highway 41 in Memphis. There are
humorous moments too, as when Jerry flogs his latest LP to the congregation ("You need the album and we need the money").
But in the end, nobody at his record company knew what to do with these tapes and they were originally unissued. Thanks to
BEAR FAMILY, the music receives the treatment it should have some 40 years ago. Accompanying notes by SUN historian Hank Davis
examine the music and document the events in Jerry's life that led to these recordings on this particular Sunday morning.
As we all know, Jerry was back to singing worldly music within months. But these recordings were made at a magic moment.
They are indispensible to any Jerry Lee Lewis fan. Forget their subject matter and listen to his passion. That's what Jerry's best
    music has always been about.

Some of Jerry Lee's finest, most heartfelt vocalizing was done on these church recordings. Fans of sacred music, especially those who tend to demonize the Ferriday Fireball, would be well-advised to check this stuff out.

He's better than any gospel singer I've ever heard.

Isn't it ironic that Jerry Lee Lewis is THE best gospel singer and also is known as the bad boy of rock? He really and truly does a spectacular job at vintage gospel songs and we need a multi-album boxed set of all his gospel songs so us fans can buy it and listen to it over and over and over.

@@BearFamilyRecords I think I now know what you said cause I looked up words online for translation. I believe you said in future you would be including all his albums into boxed sets. Please also include those on You-Tube that were never on an album. So many boxed sets needed for all of it I suppose. Danke.

I heard it is due late 2021. I'll give it a try when it's out. I liked his last album, the Rock'n'Roll-themed one.

IS IT POSSIBLE Jerry Lee was where he was supposed to be, to HELP JIMMY LEE get where he is ? viz, a man who used his fame (Jerry's, then his own) to boost his carrer and then literally reach countries where the gospel had never been heard? To give one example, Jerry Lee helped Jimmy record his first album at Sun Records; gave him his first new car; housed and helped him in his early years, and more than anything, always gave JS something interesting to talk about, as he stil does to this day.

If people to Elvis be shouldn't listen because of his ;lifestyle..then the same for all the christains especially preachers lifestyles...as in Jerrys songs. I Am Who I Am....sure that any honest god will appreciate that more than a sunday morning christain....

very talented man like his cousins jimmy & mickey & talented like elvis; jerrys nephew, donnie swaggart(jimmys son)thinks its a joke that elvis is a gospel music hall of fame inductee & donnies mom frances(jimmys wife)said that christians ought not listen to elvis' music due to his sinful lifestyle, well newsflash, donnies life isnt perfect either, hes been thru atlst One divorce & his uncle jerry lee's life is far from sinlessness as well(which applies to us ALL).
