Did someone say fast??? I draw like if I was high on sugar.
Thank you for continuing to post. Need some stuff to calm my mind and your videos are always great
K-Pop N Unmyeong thank YOU for watching my videos!
OMG I loved this video so much! Thank you! Your videos literally keep me sane because sometimes I spiral on the thought of "I don't know what I don't know". But you're always so informative and helpful!
Bri Craig im glad!! Thanks for watching!
Late to the party but it's very insightful to found out that being messy and loose is okay too rather than have every single line of a drawing crisp and clean.
This is one of your most useful videos I really enjoyed watching it and took some notes too to help me when I'll need to make a story portfolio. Thank you so much! Keep on being awesome!
Hey, mewTripled, nice job on all of your story portfolios so far so good. Keep up the great work, then someday, you'll get the right project. Have the nicest summer ever!
wow this was so helpful thank you! As a student from non-animation school, most of the time I refer to other story artists or animation students' portfolio (such as yours haha) to build my own, but then you reviewing your own portfolio on what you wouldn't include/keep/enhance is very enlightening for me. Thanks again!! Stay safe and good luck with all your work
Even though you said you don't really use these portfolios anymore since it's been years and your work changed, I still found these super interesting and useful. It's cool insight into what a calarts student normally shows to potential employers.
Thanks for this video!
Your videos are a real treat as always!
This is a really great video! Can you make one on where to even start after high school? How and where do I begin making my portfolio? Do I just do a clusterfuck of random animations, char designs etc? Or do I make a story and produce it was if it was a student film and out all work from that into the portfolio?
What did you end up doing?
You are amazing for sharing and madly talented! Thank you! This helps a lot!
Even though you were critical of your work, I think you definitely have found your artistic voice. Your style very distinctive, I think I just found one of my new favorite artists :)
Wait, is TV not supposed to be dynamic and have cool angles and what not?
Is it supposed to be flat and unexciting looking?
Most TV shows do not have the budget for dynamic, cool angles. If you look at recent animated shows over half of them are rigged/puppet animation so you are really limited with what you can do. If you look at the tangled series for example, any cool shots they have are usually in a musical sequence where the budget goes up a bit :)
@@leomarcell140 I see, I seeee!
@@leomarcell140I still find her advice terrible. YOU SHOULD be able to do both things. If you only show flatter non cinematic stuff they will think that is all you can do
@laughy sapphy it kind of means that it looks like a drawing and the drawing doesnt have life in it amd it doesnt really look alive
@Вероника Выборова something "flat" is boring, unappealing, unexciting .. but as she said in the video, it may be what the companies are looking for.
This helped so much!!! Your videos are super helpful :3
7:39 NOOOOO I WOULD HAVE WATCHED THAT
Your talent and passion were evident from the third year but it's interesting how your work evolved into year 4 by focusing more on the raw energy inherent in storytelling, story and character development.
HOLY CRAP YOU ANIMATED THAT STORY I LOVED IT AND IT REALLY CHANGED MY MIND ABOUT MY RELATIONSHIP WITH MY MOTHER
I love your art 😍😍😍
Thanks for this!!!!! time to revamp my portfolio
Thank you so much for this. video! It was super helpful
You are so talented, I wish I was capable of this level of skill and creativity
This is so helpful, thank you!
these are fantastic.
that's extra helpful for me since I'm working on the pitch for my 3rd year short film, definitely gonna take those advices!
also, so if you want to work in television, but are also more interested in going avatar/anime-style rather than the typical flat cartoony staging, what do you do? how do you show that without making it look like you're confusing feature with TV?
I always learn from this channel thx u!
These are😭😭😭💖💖💖 tysm!!!
Great portfolio
yes. we judge books by their cover. the ones with the prettiest cover are the best, and i havent gone wrong yet.
So I like want to be a Story Artist and I just wanted to comment. YOU’RE LIKE SO INSPIRING!!! When did you know you wanted to be a story artist?
I wish I could draw as clean as you do
This may have been uploaded quite a while ago but this was so informative! I still want to get into doing more story art so it’s really great to get this as a reminder! I remember I had a lot of illustrations in my portfolio and animation recruiters were like what is this??? Lol I need to work on that next time
Y'all got nice art there
Thank you for continuing to post 💗 btw, has Calarts gotten harder to get into since 2013?
your work is so cool!!! thank you for sharing this with us~~ stay safe!
Are u serious, you’re so clean and I sketch a line 10 times 😞
Hey sorry to bother y’all but I remember you having a tumblr? I can’t find you anymore over there though? Thanks for the new video!
y'all is plural lol
Misty McCubbin ya’ll need to understand that y’alls use of y’all can be used however y’all want but my use of y’all is none of y’alls business. (Seriously though, I get what you’re trying say but I think there are more egregious grammatical error in this comment section than my use of y’all as a singular word.)
@@pawnarchy it was just I was very confused about who you were asking at first dude 👌
Misty McCubbin oh yeah... that was a goof on my part lol I did end up finding her tumblr, so that was cool.
Aa, you're so talented !! I do think you were kind of hard on yourself critically though :( ,, but what do I know I've never been to college
This portfolio is beautiful. I’m surprised you had to make another one to get your first job
Bish I never liked so fast I was deadass thinking about story portfoliossss
You know what frustrates me, for years I've drawn fast for animation.. But then they need to see some clean stuff too and it's totally the opposite of what I've practiced for years. Drawing slow and neat and drawing fast and almost violently aren't two things that i can juggle as one person.
I really enjoyed looking into your portfolio! Would you happen to have a written list or a syllabus possibly saved from your college days of what was a requirement for your portfolio? I feel like I'm going crazy trying to think of what all companies are looking for. For instance, I know that showing that I'm a digital artist, can draw faces, bodies, backgrounds, buildings, animals, scenes, prompts, etc are probably good to show since I want to be a manga artist, but what am I missing? If you are able to chat sometime, I'd love to have a one on one with you! :D
awesome video, really informative! Did you find that having the physical copy of the portfolio on hand to send to studios you were interested in a good thing to do regardless of if you have a website anyways?
thanks :)
What’s the size of this portfolio? And do companies want a physical copy?
LeeAnimations Ninja 11x17 in and no they dont need the physical copy
hi Michelle, how long does it takes to finish one whole storyboard? I feel like I always spend way too much time...
Nicole Chan maybe 2-3 weeks max? 1 wk for thumbnails, 1wk for cleanup and 1 wk to revise
My first video that I saw of you is your henti one😂
hey :) do you make your drawings digital, print it and put in your sketchbook? Or do you just use really good markers?? xx
Random question; is it ok to make my digital portfolio what I specifically want to send in for a storyboard trainee program on powerpoint?
I once heard that making it into a website is the only way to go, but is that really true?
I was gearing towards something that can both be easily made and viewed, but also edited and copied
so how can she make the cover more story centric? I see it being pretty story driven! What can be done better for a story portfolio? Asking because i need to supplement classes due to the rona! Thx!
Hello, Michelle! I hope I made it on time) Could I ask you a question?- how and where did you learn to draw IN TEENAGEHOOD? I`ve watched a lot of artists talk about their art UNIVERSITY (college/institute) journey, but being a teenager and striving to draw as good as them, I want to find out- did you go to an art school for teenagers, or maybe you took up online courses to learn to draw SO GOOD! ? Hope you will answer)
I don't know if it might help you, but what helped me improve a lot in my teenage years was focusing on one thing. For example, I started with faces, and when I improved on that I moved on to proportions, etc. :)
How... You have so much work and it's so good. Even doing one project takes me careful planning and iteration and with school assignments, just how do you find the energy and get around to doing all that? I just can't
It's done over a long period of time. Just take it day by day so you're not overwhelmed

Question what kind of binder was that and where can I get one
I have a few days to make a full portfolio right now.
I'm scared, and I'm too lazy and stressed out to begin on it...
This great, because I suck ass at doing finished shit ( I want to be a concept artist so I suppose it works in my favor) I'm a junior in HS and I be stressin'
Ahh currently going through this 😭
Wait, so every year you have to do a new portfolio?
My crush 😍
Hi! Can you add closed captioning to this video please? I'd like to learn!
CAN I BUY THIS SOMEWHERE??
Can someone please tell me what sketchbook thing this is??
It's not really a sketchbook. It's a collection of her polished drawings combined into one booklet as a final product.
