O Canada (Ô Canada) is the National Anthem of Canada since 1980. It was composed in 1880 by Calixa Lavallée and written by Adolphe-Basile Routhier in French, and by Robert Stanley Weir, in 1908, in English. It became the de facto national anthem of Canada in 1939, while God Save the King serves as royal anthem.

When the Separatists were in the news in the late 60s, De Gaulle went to Canada and gave the Separatist slogan, "Vive le Québec libre!" which irritated many Canadians, even French-speaking ones.
Not long after this, a patron of a business in Montreal went into a restroom and saw this message on the hand-dryer: "Push this button and hear a message from De Gaulle."

I don't know why, but I've always thought that without its French heritage, Canada wouldn't be the same.
Think about it, they were the ones who created the country's signature dishes like the poutine, they were the ones who created this great hymn, they were the ones who gave Canada its name and the first ones to inhabit it, of course, after the indigenous tribes that already inhabited their territory without even being Canada. Without a doubt all these details make Canada an amazing country, where different cultures live together in such a way that each one can complement the other in different ways. I hope that the secessionism of certain regions has ceased because a united Canada is the best they can have :)

Proves that Ô Canada is better than the Russian national anthem, Star Spangled Banner, God Save The Queen or else by far. Now we only need this arrangement with the complete lyrics.

I am a Florida Native and a Die-hard Lightning Fan. I have always wanted to sing the American National Anthem and "O Canada!" given the opportunity to do so. I love singing "O Canada!" in English but always wanted to sing it in French as well and Bilingual it my own way because of the meaning of the words in French and English. Now knowing how it goes, if given the opportunity, this would be my version of "O Canada!"
    "O Canada!
    Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all of us command.
Car ton bras sait porter l'épée,
    Il sait porter la croix!
    Ton histoire est une épopée

Were the English lyrics composed during the lifetime of the French composers? I sense some ill-advised bigotry on the part of at least one French Canadian here, as if the British should relegate themselves to an alternate universe. I thought Charles deGaulle was dead.
