Church suppers. My lord how I loved those as a kid. I also remember sitting on top of the ice cream churn, cranking until my arm was on fire. Always vanilla, peach and banana. Y.U.M.
One of my favorite parts of all your cooking videos is you declaring “So good”, I believe you every time😋!
😀
Tipper, I just received your cookbook today. Thank you so much for signing it for me! ❤ I can't wait to try all of your delicious recipes and read all of the Appalachian folklore.❤
Yay! Hope you enjoy!
@@CelebratingAppalachia I plan on making Honey Nut Bread tomorrow.
Where did you buy it at do you have a link if it’s still for sale?
@Katie Jo Mikell I bought it on Etsy from her Blind Pig and Acorn store. She had a link in the video prior to this one for it.
@@karenhopper1691 I’m sorry I don’t know what video you’re talking about I just joined a week ago so I’ve just been watching some videos and I haven’t seen the book yet it’s OK if you don’t have a link I’ll ask Tipper.
God help Ms Cindy!
Mama always made the fruit cocktail cake, and this cake, too. The only difference, she used crushed pineapple instead of the peaches. Both are so good!
Pineapple sounds good with the coconut!
I'll bet that a can of pineapple and a can of peaches would work well also. Either way it sounds mouth-watering. 😋
Isn't that a tornado cake with the pineapple? It sounds like I'm trying to be funny- but, I really think it is called a tornado cake.
@@matthewharper7333 basically yes, with just a bit of difference.
I’ve lived in The Appalachians all my life , I’ve never heard of either.
Wow that cake looked so very 😋scrumptious💕. I would definitely put nuts on and or on mine. Thank you Miss sweet T👍
I hope & pray Matt’s momma is doing better😋Blessings to your whole family 🫶 you all!
Oh wow, my mom would have loved that cake. She loved peaches and coconut anything.
My mom always made what she called a cherry bubble cake with canned sour cherries. Made really the same way. With the same topping minus the coconut. It is so good! I make it occasionally but my husband is not a fan of cherries and I sure don't need it all! It's called bubble cake because the cherries come to the top and gives a bubble like look. Update: I looked at her recipe and It is exactly the same. Only using cherries instead of the peaches or fruit cocktail. If you like cherries give that a try sometime!
I love coconut and peaches I think I'm going to make it for my birthday cake which is in less than a week thank you for sharing it I am praying for Miss Cindy and your whole family God bless you and keep you strong
The cherries sound delicious!!!
Im so glad that you always show the "post production" parts after your conclusion. It really adds to the video and keeps it real and original. As always...excellent job ladies! :)
Thank you!
there was a duff's in florence al too. this cake reminds me of one mom called a poke cake. almost the same icing and you would use a tooth pick to poke the cake so icing would flow into it lol.
Yep, in Florence, KY we used to go there to that one a lot, and, especially on Sunday afternoons with my grandparents and sometimes a few extra family members to boot!
I’ve made this cake for years except instead of peaches we’ve always made it with crushed pineapple and double icing,
we called it aunt Pats cake. It’s my youngest daughter’s favorite birthday cake.
I'll bet you could use a potato masher on those peaches as well. It looks really good. My mother used to make the fruit cocktail cake many years ago. Thanks for the fond memory.
This cake looks really yummy!
I totally agree!
😀
I ain't never wished for smell-a- vision before in my life 😂.. I got my cookbook today and I've already started readin it !! Thanks so much for signin it for me, I bet your hand was sore after signin all them books. Love and prayers ! Tulsa, Oklahoma 😊
Yay! Glad you like the book 😀
Sending blessings to your family especially Miss Cindy ♥️✝️🇺🇸 thanks for the recipe ♥️
There was a Duff's diner Indianapolis Indiana in the 70's.
Had best bread pudding ever
I love cakes with that runny frosting that soak the cake without being mushy. 😋
When I was a child, we used to drive into the "city" and eat at Duff's for special occasions, usually a couple times a year, and I just loved it. Sadly it closed. I'll always remember the fried shrimp and chocolate mouse.
I'm going to have to make this cake!! It looks so yummy! I've made cakes similar to this one and I usually poke holes in the cake before pouring the icing over the hot cake. I think it helps the hot cake absorb the icing a little quicker. Thank you for sharing your recipes and techniques! Praying for Ms. Cindy and you all. ❣🙏🙏🙏
I love the casual chatting after the main video; it feels like we are just chilling together. Delightful.
I make a poke cake using strawberry jello with a white cake mix bake in a 9x11 take a wooden spoon and poke holes all over the cake mix. Take large box of jello strawberry mix as stated poor all over the cake. Place cake in fridge to set up then frost it with cool whip decroate with sliced or chopped strawberries great summer time dessert.
The reason I typed all this out I was thinking about your cake if you poked holes in it before putting the coconut icing drizzle on it would let was seep farther down into the cake..😁
Granny used to make that cake and I just loved it! I need to make one 😀 Thank you for reminding me about it 😀
My mommy use to make the fruit cocktail cake when I was young. I think it’s a North Carolina thing we use to live in NC that’s how she learn yo make the cake it was so good
There was a Duffs in Knoxville Tennessee years ago. I enjoyed going there. Love your videos, brings memories of growing up. ❤
Thank you 😀
Love kitchen shears ✂️❤ If I don’t make a mess, it’s usually off. I don’t know how else to say it. It’ll just taste like something is off😂
Tipper I’m sure you’ve had a pig pickin cake before, the one with the yellow cake mix with the mandarin oranges in the batter and the frosting is crushed pineapple whipped topping and vanilla pudding. It’s so good and an old recipe for sure. If you haven’t though I’ll be glad to post it. That Dufs cake looks great! Must try it 👍🏻
Never have but that sounds wonderful 😀
I had a cake like this a long time ago and I think it was at a church potluck...it was really good 🤗❤️
This looks very good and easy!
I remember that Duffs in Gainesville, and even now 99% of the babies born in the north Ga area were born at the Gainesville hospital.
I ordered your cookbook from Amazon. We are planning on coming to Boone and hope to see you to sign it. That cake looked so good. I’ve lived in the Appalachians all my life but had never heard of decoration day until I married my husband. His family called it the Memorial Meeting. There was always dinner on the grounds and special singing and preaching. So many have passed that we don’t have it anymore but we still put flowers on the graves.
Thank you Karen! I look forward to meeting you 😀
I seen someone making a cake similar to this cake. I made it last week and it was so good. It was called a Tornado Cake. It was made basically the same way except with pineapple instead of peaches and instead of walnuts it calls for pecans. Yummy.
I will definitely be making this recipe. The fruit cocktail cake popped up on my feed the other day. I didn’t even realize it was an older video until it was over. I have heard of that cake, but not this one. I plan to make both soon. 😊
😀
My mother’s old recipe uses cans of fruit cocktail. It’s delicious too.
I learned the fruit cocktail cake from you and have made it several times! Love it so much and can't wait to try this one! ❤ Praying for you all and Miss Cindy.
Thank you 😀
Been to Gainesville, 25 miles away ,we almost kinfolk
I worked at Duffs here in knoxville as a teenager during the world's fair 82 and we couldn't keep the hurricane cake filled on the buffet bar. People loved it. That's a good cake. Take care sister. Good share
I'm going to make this cake.Sounds so good.Thank you ❤️
The Duff family is related to me on my Fathers side. There used to be several Duff Restaurants. If I remember the stories, it was like a buffet style.
The best cooks always make a mess when cooking.
😀
The cake looks so good! Our family likes Cotton Pickin Cake which is very easy to make too!
My remembering DUFS was they had a Chicken Shawarma. Thank you. God Bless and stay safe.
Yummmmm!! I’m going to make this cake for sure!! And I love fruit cocktail cake and have made it!!! Thanks, Tipper, for sharing! God bless and love to all!! 💕🤗🙏🏻
Looks very delicious
I always use Freestone peaches never Cling peaches. They taste like our backyard peaches used to.
Looks so delicious
Thank you for sharing
😀
Yummy 😋 I love all your videos but I really like when you share your recipes to 😊
😀
I was born and raised in Gainesville and I remember eating at Duff's when I was a kid, but I don't remember that cake. Like you, I remember the soft serve ice cream, my sister and I always got that 😊 the cake does look delicious though!
I don't know which I like better Tipper. You cooking, eating, or talking. 🙂
😀 You are too kind! Thank you 😀
My Mommy always made fruit cocktail cake. It’s the one she always knew to make for me when I came home.
I started watching your blog because of your bowls. Memories
Yummy. Got to try this one. Thanks for sharing.
I remember this cake from when I was a young girl in Ca, ( I am now in my 60's). From my memory I remember enjoying this cake and I am so glad you are sharing it again today.
Wonderful!
I don't get to watch very often but your videos are always great. Thanks

Thanks Tipper for sharing!
I can’t wait to try this! Thanks.
I so resonate with “I can’t cook if I don’t make a mess”!
😀
I use scissors to cut up canned tomatoes, too. Thanks for this recipe!🥰💕❤️👍👍
Excited to make this for my son's Grad Party next month!!! Thank you for SHARING!!!!👍👍
Hope you enjoy!
Loved the "extra" footage. The cake did look easy to make & the fact that it stays moist is a plus for me. TYFS
Thank you!!
There was a Duffs in Greenwood Indiana at the mall. Our Duffs was a buffet. They had a conveyor belt that they put different individual dishes of food on, and you would grab a dish to put on your tray
Love that!
We have a Mennonite store in a small town near us. Among other great things they offer, they have a complete line of Rada utensils. We bought the same whisk there that you have.
That is wonderful to have that resource 😀
Looks so good! I use the fruit in its own juice. The reason I mention it is you said it’s super sweet. I also use unsweetened just plain dried coconut. Ingles has a brand and it’s organic unsweetened coconut and I love it. It’s still plenty sweet on its own. Just a thought of how to maybe cut down on the sweetness.
I enjoy the end of the video where y’all are just talking . It’s like visiting with y’all.
I sent a card with my cookbook money. Should be there soon.
Thank you Sandra!
Love those Texas ware bowls. I understand they have not been available for a number of years.
This recipe work beautifully with crushed pineapple as well.
Looks very good thank you for sharing Tipper
"I can't cook unless I make a mess" Truer words have never been spoken.

Thank you! They are Texas Ware bowls 😀 You can sometimes find them on Etsy and Ebay 😀
Looks delicious! Been making the fruit cocktail cake for years.
Cake looks good! Praying for Miss Cindy.🙏🏻
Tipper, I have been looking for this recipe for years. I worked for Duff's in high school. I loved that cake. I watched your video yesterday and today I made it and oh my it brought back memories. Thanks again it was wonderful!
Wonderful!!
I love watching your videos especially the ends because it reminds me of when my Granny was alive and the happy times when my family would visit and spend time together since she died I don't get to see them anymore except at funerals 😢 my Granny was the glue that held our family together I miss those days.
My momma loved to make fruit cocktail cake! 🥰

I love these extended plays
So glad 😀

We use to eat at a Duffs in Newark Ohio when I was a kid. Not sure if it’s the same restaurant but they did have the soft serve ice cream machine, so maybe it is.
That looks delicious. Thank you for sharing these wonderful recipes Tipper.
Looks delicious!

This sounds so good! Thanks for sharing!
I remember my mama making this cake but it’s been years since I’ve had it again. Thanks for the reminder
Looks delicious 😋
I've made this with fruit cocktail & it's so good! Peaches would be delicious too & I'm going to try it. This simple frosting is soo good & makes a moist cake that doesn't last for long 🍑
Bless you Katie
Looks so good - I plan on trying it. I love hearing you talk about homecomings and Decoration Day. Those terms remind me of my grandma - she lived on a farm. I remember church homecomings and getting flowers together to take to the cemetery on Decoration Day.
Hi Tipper! Ditto what Karen Hopper said, wow that was fast delivery! I've made so many of your recipes from watching you here, but now I've got soooo many more to do! Thank you so much
Thank you Cathy!!
That trick with the kitchen shears is what I do if I buy packaged slaw mix or salad. I just put it in the bowl and use the shears on it till it is the size I want. Those peachs would chop easy with shears if someone wanted. Those scissors do all kinds of things. This is one of those cakes that is always a winner. I have to make a birthday cake for Buz next week. This might be something different. Of course he thinks he has to put ice cream on any cake. You surely are blessed to have 2 wonderful mothers in law. In all the busy days right now take a deep breath and thank God for blessings. Praying for yall. Have a great week.
Thank you!! I am blessed 😀 I use those shears a lot 😀
Sending prayers to Ms Cindy and Granny. God bless thank you for sharing the recipe.
Thank you!
This cake looks so good and easy to make. I will try it. My mother used to make the Fruit Cocktail Cake you mentioned. I received your cookbook today. I'm excited to try recipes and read all the stories. My husband looked at it and was very interested in the pictures. Thanks for signing the cookbook.
Yay! Glad you like the cookbook 😀
