I'd blame poor monitoring. If a mofo can't hear anything it's hard to hit that note on an unfretted instrument. I saw New Order at an outdoor concert and when Bernard was singing in the early part of the show he were off-key. Then they got some help with their monitors and the rest of the show sounded much better.
Can say that this felt/seemed better live (I was there), but maybe I was just in the (unguarded) moment... I think the choruses were alright, tbh, though she does sound kind of like she's retching, at points... :-/
