This episode's first half was fine. By the end though, there were enough poor writing choices, I realized I needed to just rant. That actually worked out pretty well for me, as it allowed me to focused on the technical stuff first, then transition into the writing. Decent structure for the video. I did also just finish season 1 of Dark and can't wait to release an extremely positive review of that. DARK is amazing and you all did me a favor in recommending it.

Make sure you watch the whole series though Shad, some sword fights are way better than others, like the red paladin pond fight was pretty good (you'll know what I'm talking about when you see it)! The series actually has some of the better mixed gender sword fights, the smaller fighters aren't squaring off against larger opponents and going for strength moves in a lot of them, they actually use very accurate slashing attacks to vital areas to defeat enemies, and get tossed about quite a bit by bigger fighters. I just wish the fight quality was more uniform throughout the series, there are a fair share of scenes where I definitely just shook my head in disbelief.

But from the scenes shown I fear Shad will need something to calm down if he watches an episode of that show. I'm not going to subject myself to that. Now where did I put that 80's Robin of Sherwood show?

You forgot to mention that she runs into the village as it is being attacked and just runs around confused "OMG, what do I do, what do I do?" Why did she run into the damn village as it was being attacked? She didn't seem to be trying to save anyone or find someone or anything, she just becomes a victim who was easily captured because, duh, you ran into your village as they are killing your people. I watched more episodes and they abandoned the best friend and the kid with no explanation and no concern by our main character - meh, didn't really like them anyway. As I continued to watch the show I found myself not really caring what happened or whether I would ever watch anymore. It turned into background noise as I worked on my computer. There were some cool things in the show but they had a lot of just bad crap. Arthur was just a petty criminal and liar - have no idea how he was supposed to be anything like the original character other than his name. Our "heroin" seemed to have no real purpose, especially once Arthur stole the sword from her. There was nothing really done with her being "chosen". Of course, I only watched a few episodes but my point is the writers never drew me into the store and never got me emotionally connected with the characters. Arthur was an unredeemable bad thief. Nimue (however you spell it) was unhinged, constantly screwing up and of no help to anyone and had no real redeemable qualities. Merlin started to become interesting but they seemed to rewrite his character from a drunkard to an old has been wizard who was now soberly trying to become what he used to be I guess? The main inquisitor was just 100% evil and a psychopath bent on killing anyone he could label as a "witch". Then the assassin was just a super powerful bad guy who just was doing things to move the plot forward but had no motivation or back story so... bad ass threat for reasons. All in all I stopped the show when I finished my work and have had no interest in watching any more of it.

That was an example of bad directing, when Nimue and her friend just ride into the massacre and stumble around amongst everyone. The directing was really shit in most of the scenes in this show, it was good sometimes like when the Weeping Monk fought the Trinity Guard and escaped with Squirrel. But it wasn't good enough, and that was one of the main reasons why this potentially good series failed. Yes, the acting was inconsistent but that wasn't the biggest problem and I don't know why so many people think it is. Some scenes were completely unnecessary, like the part when Nimue has a tooth pulled out by a random dentist, like we didn't need this! The story didn't need this! Why did it happen? The directors and the script writers let this show down, and it's upsetting.

You were close to the meaning though. Tolkien translated it from "Angrenost" Which was Elven Sindarin (which he based on Old English) meaning "Iron Enclosure". Translated it into the Human Dale language (based on Old Norse) it comes out as Isengard. So you could reasonably use Eisengart as the base for pronunciation.
Just so happens I read the books first and you'll always prefer your own imagination over someone elses. I liked the film, but I would have taken a different direction with it. For one, there would have been no platemail armour. Tolkien never mentions platemail IIRC, only chainmail. The films' period technology was too medieval and modern, the books IMO had a more Celtic Myths/Norse Saga feel to it. So the tone of the film I would have made it more... mythical, lots of mist and fairy tale like. Think "Dark Crystral", but without the puppets and alien looking creatures and landscapes.

Yeah I think it's more of a semantics thing because I see the criticism of his criticism a lot. It's not so much that the clothes are "clean", the clothes are downright immaculate. Everything looks like it's just been made, or cleaned far beyond the capabilities of medieval people.

Yup. And people did it fairly recently too. We have a pair of early 20th century drawers from my great grandmother (no, I don't know why my family kept a pair of underpants), and they've been patched at least 4 times. Clothes were freaking expensive back in the day.

@@Mhidraumputting patches in your clothes wasnt common before the late 19th century and even then it was mostly undergarments unless you were either very poor or your wife didn't know how to sew properly, but before people would sew the damaged parts and yoyuwould not see a difference, clothing also became much more expensive between the late 18th and the early 20th century

@@alexmag342 That's inaccurate. There's a lot of evidence of darning and patching much earlier than the 19th century. I also think you for your numbers mixed up... Fabric cost went down during the industrial revolution, not up.

    *The good:*
    - Merlin and The Weeping Monk.
    *The decent:*
    - Nimue, Arthur and Father Carden.
    - The CGI
    - Whenever the show decides to be a dark fantasy instead of a teenage romance drama.
    *The bad:* (Literally everything else!)
    - Most of the action is poor and choreography is cringe even compared to Xena from the 90's.
    - The writing is mostly garbage.
    - Pacing is all over the place.
    - Most of the dialogue is poor.
    - Several of the characters and their motivations makes no sense and are all over the place.
    - Whenever the show decides to be a teenage romance drama instead of a dark fantasy.
There's a period at the end of the show when there's an alleged siege going on, but guess what, characters literally come and go as they please from said city that's allegedly under siege...
I'm not at all bothered by the talk about "woke" or "forced diversity in the wrong setting" (I enjoyed BBC's 'Merlin' back in the day """despite""" a black actress for Gwen, and I have no problem at all with black actors for Arthur and Morgana), but this show deserves it's low rating: 4/10.
