  • EPISODE 23 REDO
    It's another Zoo Tour in Columbus, so you already know this is going to be good. THE ASIA QUEST opened in two phases in 2006, showcasing animals that are becoming fewer, and fewer in numbers from the largest continent's rainforests, temperate zones, and cold mountainous conditions. Nearly every zoo these days preaches their message of conservation with an attraction, it's nothing new, but things are a little different at the Asia Quest. Subtle, entertaining, and imaginative methods are used to allow the visitors to search and discover the hard truths for themselves. The truth being, the creatures you're about to see, suffer every single day from hunting, or deforestation in the wild. On this episode, you and your tour group will experience some of Columbus's residents that took me years to see - including not ONE, not TWO, but FOUR hoofed animals with FANGS, Asia's most dangerous bear, a goat with five foot long spiraled horns, the world's bravest cat, the world's longest snake, and Frankie, the BABY ELEPHANT!

    I know the backstory of the exhibit. This exhibit did open in two phases in 2006, but before the exhibit was known as Asia Quest, the area was known as the Herbivores/Carnivores, which opened with the Pachyderm area in 1979. This area had not just elephants, rhinos and tigers, but animals like giraffes, zebras, lions, ostriches, cheetahs, kudu, jaguars, anteaters, rheas, llamas, chital deer, snow leopards, secretary birds and Indian crested porcupines. Their setup was similar to the Milwaukee County Zoo's Africa, Asia and South America exhibit, where some of the animals can look down to see their prey. They closed the Herbivores/Carnivores area in 2005.

    I've always loved zoos with great theming, and Columbus had always been the best at that.
    One day I would loved to see you cover Disney's Animal Kingdom if you ever go to Florida. Gorilla Falls or Maharajah Jungle Trek in particular is amazing in terms of husbandry and theming, while Kilimanjaro Safaris is probably going to be a lot harder to film as they are constantly moving, but is still bascally the largest savannah exhibit in US.

    1) Which one of the 3 Mexican Gray Wolf brothers passed away at the San Francisco Zoo?
    2) How many tigers did the Oakland Zoo lose so far when they each passed away one at a time?
    3) What new animal moved into the Woodland Park Zoo's former elephant exhibit?
    4) What date did Bearizona renovate the otters' new exhibit home?
    5) Who is the oldest orangutan that passed away at the Los Angeles Zoo so far?
    6) When did Tembo the elephant from the San Diego Zoo passed away?

      FYI, I'm not saying its a bad zoo (although its been run by some not so great people). I'm more saying this probably wasn't the best time to release this video. It sounds like most of the zoo was okay, its just there were apparently issues with the animal ambassador program. (The village habitats really shouldn't be acceptable for those animals) So hopefully the can get they're accreditation back in 2023.

    • @ZooTours
      @ZooTours  Před 2 lety +1
