This is why it’s important to keep your people healthy and well fed

At least the Cathayan citizens weren't treated badly by their Dragon rulers compared to the Bretonnian peasants at the hands of the so-called chivalrous knights of Bretonnia.

This is indeed more or less correct, but there the description of one of the research in the Cathayan research tree goes more or less like this: "The Dragon Family are sworn to defend Cathay and its people, but even then, they do recognize that sacrificing some hundreds of Cathayan peasants might not be much of a problem if its for the good of Cathay at large". I don't remember which research it is, but likely one that do something about the peasants units, like making them easier to recruit or something.
Also the Cathayan peasants are still an expendable unit.
And yeah, clearly, Bretonnian nobles are dicks to their peasant. There is even a quote in game on the loading screens from a "peasant-hater" (sic) Bretonnian noble who basically says that peasants have no honor and are trash.

Which is pretty hilarious considering the inspiration

Even Cathayan farmer are more well trained than Bretonnian peasants.
    But still better than Stirland.

I don't understand why the Cathayans won. They have more HP but there are less units of them on the field since they're a unit with a higher count of entities, they have a slightly better melee attack and weapon damage but they have significantly less melee defense and armour, and they have more leadership. Was the leadership difference the decisive criterion?

@@rhinoking2792 Ok, good to know. I know that attack is generally considered a better stat than defense in most games, but here it didn't seem enough.

Brettonian peasants have shit morale. You can see the battle was roughly equal (somewhat in favor of the Cathayans) until the Brettonnians started routing, then it turned into a slaughter.
