“It’s the current year, so marriage should be considered a risk-averse transaction.”
That’s as dumb as it is dismal. Objectifying marriage in this way runs contrary to the definition and purpose of marriage itself, and love in general. It ain’t something you buy on Amazon or at Walmart.

So the fallacy here is the belief that marriage is “just a document” believing that marriage is just a legally binding contract between two people opens up the possibility for divorce. If marriage is forever such as it is in the Christian theology than there would be no such need for divorce (in most cases). A prenup is a direct attack on that faith. If both parties are completely understanding and aware of what marriage is supposed to represent and what its intended purposes where (which must be under a largely non secular state) than we wouldn’t have need for such things as prenups because the man and the woman both understand equally the importance of what they are partaking in. I’m also assuming that you are against women leaving men and taking all there money which is why you support prenups in the first place but prenups cause more harm to marriage as an institution than good because it allows for a backup plan and thus less incentive to make things work with your partner. Over time and with the requirements for divorce being raised (or the return to a belief in something larger than the self) , the institution will be taken more seriously which will lead to less divorce, happier children, fathers in the home, people working out their issues, and a stronger society as a whole. I’m also assuming that your a young conservative man such as myself or a moderate and I encourage you to dig deeper into these topics of discussion think of why this is what your being told, who is telling you this and what is the incentive behind this being taught. I’m impressed by your conviction in your belief and the tenacity to comment on it which shows that you feel that this is an important topic of discussion so I would urge you to dive deeper.

We have been getting married for thousands of years with and without religious reasons.
Stop preaching that choir boy shit nobody want to hear it.
The first recorded evidence of marriage ceremonies uniting one woman and one man dates from about 2350 B.C., in Mesopotamia. Over the next several hundred years, marriage evolved into a widespread institution embraced by the ancient Hebrews, Greeks, and Romans.
Judaism originated with the biblical patriarch Abraham (approx 1800 BCE).
      Christianity even less.

@@21sled like I said , college educated women have a 90% divorce rate. You can verify this for yourself I seriously doubt all of their husbands were bad men. Getting married without a prenup is a dumb decision. Facts are facts. So with them what you want You act like all women get divorced for logical reasons

I respect his choice. It’s his life. If Andrew feels that way then hey, good luck to em. You live and learn , whether it goes your way or not. Some of us feel he made a mistake, but let’s be honest. He has the money to find out from divorce lawyers if it’s worth it or not and even online platforms that prove he’s right and others than prove he’s wrong for it. The man’s making a choice that hurts him no matter what it’s a pick your poison type of situation when dealing with a woman long term. Some states even consider living with your girlfriend for a certain amount of time a form of marriage so you would still gotta pay up to them anyway. He’s being positive about his situation. Good for him. Keep on kicking ass Andrew and I hope you release another ducking banger of a special!!

Divorce rates are above 50% in the last decade. Get prenups, gentlemen. Life is not a fairytale. Sometimes the most well intentioned relationships go sour for unforeseen reasons. It doesn't mean you don't trust or love your partner; it means you realize that life is unpredictable, people change, and sometimes there's a side to your partner, or even yourself, that you're not aware of that can change the viability of your relationship.

If I was ever to get married, it would be with a girl that I can trust and can see myself spending the rest of my life with. That being said, I’ve worked hard for my money, I’ve struggled alone for my money, I’ve built everything I have from the ground up. No one is taking that away from me. I will love the girl and be there for her for as long as I’m alive but my work is mine. If she doesn’t want to sign a paper that says she doesn’t care about my money, then she’s not the one for me. Sorry. A girl will love you for your character not your money. If she can’t do that. Move on.

This is aweful advice, the guys that don’t sign prenups are the same guys you hear about their wife’s taking there house and money through divorce, especially if your 20s or 30s it’s mandatory that you sign a prenup, there is no benefit to not do it
