    Tool doesn’t just rock, it’s a full submersive experience. And this was from near the end of the height of MTV actually still playing videos, the quality bar had gotten high, budgets gotten big, and out of nowhere a guy makes a simple claymation that, as true art, changes everything

      @Marc Leblanc maybe in popularity pop is #1 but the world of metal is far more expansive than any other music genre, so many different genres of metal compared to the few different genres of pop or country. Metal has a little something for everyone, where I cant really say the same thing about any other genre of music.

  • @helenespaulding9372
    @helenespaulding9372 Před 4 lety +125

    My concern is that the video was “creepy” and therefore you will think of Tool as “creepy” . They are not, but rather a “thinking person’s” prog metal band who’s lyrics often deal with spiritual subjects. Many reactors hear echos of Zeppelin, , Pink Floyd, (hypnotic vibe) Black Sabbath, King Crimson and even some Rush (complexity of rhythm and lyrics). Tool are really their own genre. I could tell you didn’t enjoy that video, but I urge you to react to more Tool before you dismiss them. And DON’T watch a video....unless it’s a live performance....settle into the vibe and then discuss the lyrics afterward. The song Pneuma captured me because I love complex rhythms and meaningful lyrics.

    • @thisjustanother
      @thisjustanother Před 4 lety +6

    • @dmstewart66
      @dmstewart66 Před 4 lety +17

      Sorta... They are dark as hell. Let's not pretend here. Regardless of the videos, their lyrics are darker than every other band you just mentioned.
      I do agree, that they are very intellectual and are always trying to awaken something deep an meaningful in the listener... but their whole thing is taking you through the lowest lows in the hopes that you will ride through it to the beauty on the other side. Their music is always a trip and often a dark one, but we usually learn the most from those.
      They are one of the darker trips you can take in the music world, but also one of the most intellectual, rewarding, and overall inspiring if you ride it out.
      Sort of like a prog metal version of The Doors. They are not afraid of their dark side, and often flaunt it. But they also are beacons of light. A powerful duality and balance rarely seen in music.

      Matheus Q C a lot of think they get lumped in the “metal” category for convenience sake but they aren’t similar to most modern metal acts. They are more just progressive rock or a category to themselves. I think they are closer to a band like Pink Floyd now than a band like, say, Gojira. Really doesn’t matter too much.

      @@yourefriendlyneighborhoodbuddy "Scourge of Iron" actually got a positive message (villains/murderers and so on getting tortured in hell). Better than starting with "Hammer Smashed Face", which in most cases turns people off from CC.

    I got to see Tool live, back during the Lateralus tour, and it was nothing short of a spiritual experience. There were enormous screens where they projected psychedelic images and excerpts from their music videos, and there were aerial acrobats suspended on silk. They had no spotlights on the band itself, because they wanted us to focus on the art and the music. Best concert I've ever been to. I'd recommend Schism, and 46 & 2, if you'd like to explore them more. (Honestly, everything by them is beautiful, resonant and complex, then sometimes they'll blindside you with subversive humor like in Die Eier von Satan.)

    exactly! metal is an extremely wide category. I"ve been a metal fan since i was about 9 and its become clear that there is more variety and "types" of metal than any other genre of music. there's never too much and honestly never enough. I'm 35 now and still finding new (well usually old but new to me) stuff :)

    Are you 2 the cutest??!! I love that you're reviewing one of my absolute favorite bands, the mighty Tool. You need to listen to everything they ever put out to get a true appreciation of how magnificent and unique Tool are. Opiate, Undertow, Aenima, Lateralus, 10,000 days and the very recent Fear Inoculum are beyond brilliant. I also would suggest the following bands: Meshuggah, Mastodon, Deftones, and Mudvayne. You won't be disappointed. Rock on grannies!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

Enjoy your ride.
