      Are you an attorney, Dim Bulb? I'm thinking no. No attorney or judge knows every single piece of case law. That's why firms and courts have law libraries. Even if familiar with a particular case, you would still look it up as a matter of routine. These are just a bunch of "gotcha" questions designed to put the woman on the spot and make Hawley looks smart.

      Asking relevent case law isn't just a bunch of "gotcha" questions. She clearly knows NOTHING about MAJOR case law, that's why he's asking.
      At least he didn't ask her what her religious background is (which would be illegal), then run to the media to spin hyperbole, like democrats do.

      @@hawkeyeted Sorry to disappoint, but, yes. Attorney here. Passed the bar and the whole nine yards. Former public defender, former assistant prosecutor, state, then federal. Now in private practice.
      It's not that she knows nothing about "major case law", as you put it. It's about her continually indicating to him what her wheelhouse has been and him ignoring that and continually peppering her with irrelevant questions well outside the scope of her previous practices. Think of it as if you are a cardiologist and I keep asking you to explain nephrology principles and techniques. The guy is just show boating and she's trying to be nice about it. It's obvious to any one who IS an attorney. But you wouldn't know that.

    Tovah R. Calderon describes herself as _"generalist"._ Does that mean that she can't do anything specific particularly well without cramming the night before? I think Sen. Josh Hawley is right; she is avoiding revealing her political bias by avoiding admitting knowledge and hence an opinion on particular cases.

      No judge knows everything. No Supreme Court justice knows every law. That’s why it takes months to write the opinions with the help of others lawyers that work for each Justice. Without context of how courts work and how judges work, the Senator makes the nominee look stupid while the audience has no context.

      The fact she says she hasn't read the case law says as much about her seriousness as a legal mind as it does about her knowledge of the individual case. I can assure you that Alan Dershowitz, for example, knows this one inside and out.
