it's not right to assume she needs you to speak for her, just saying. you're doing people with disabilities a disservice. it is true that she is disabled. she can be independent, but she may need more help and understanding than people who can see. so, don't make 'disabled' a taboo word by avoiding it. unless a person with disabilities tells you they don't like to be referred to as a disabled person, don't try to educate other people on something you're not clear on. persons with disabilities include autistic, blind, hard of hearing people etc and everyone has their different preferences. so respect that instead of framing them as someone to treat differently and protect as special/"more abled". it's dehumanising. they are still human beings with their own personalities and skills.
