from a strictly musical point of view arctic monkeys are miles ahead of the kooks. the kooks have a few good catchy songs, but that's about it. they don't ever dare to push the envelope and they've been doing the same thing for three years, it gets old. arctic monkeys, on the other hand, keep coming up with new surprising material and keep evolving into new styles and themes. it's always so refreshing. and don't get me started on alex's lyrics. that's just my opinion.
Both bands are indisputably great but there's no denying that AM is better. First of all, you've got Alex's lyricism, then there's Matt's drumming and Nick's bass. Then there's their diversity, each of their album is unique and different than the others, the same can't be said for the Kooks. However, Luke is a great songwriter and Hugh's a god on the guitar, so the Kooks aren't that far behind.
I like how in all the arguing in the comments, no one's addressing the "Alex was off his face" comment in the video because it's generally accepted by all AM fans xD (I'm an AM fan too, I'm not talking shit about him)
Humbug, while still good, is nowhere near as well written. Suck it and see is just bland and brick by brick might be the worst song they've ever written. Am is as by the books and commercially pleasing an album can get. Tranquility base is good

I definitely love both of them. Without a doubt they're in my top 5, and the only reason I can't say for sure which one I prefer is that they play completely different styles of music. Each band comes with its own mood and gives me the chills in a unique way. There's no need to argue which is better, let alone a legitimate reason

I'm pretty confident they will soon be forgotten due to this. And Turner is a genius and probably the best songwriter of our time. But then again I hate the kooks and I'm completely biased so my opinion doesn't matter much haha
