For the right applications I’m starting to like the ergo more and more. I definitely missed the bigger cab, but visibility is the downfall. The crane power isn’t even comparable, the c5 is a beast. The H8 handles the bigger timber so much better, which in recent years we’ve really found ourselves in bigger wood. I think the stability and comfort in certain aspects is much better as well. I’m extremely curious of the new scorpion giant however.
@@TrophyMediaCo I find the majority of the time the visibility doesn't bother me. There are of course situations that it would be a lot nicer to have the Scorpion style machine for visibility. The giant looks compelling, but the price seems a little ridiculous. Especially when the one at the show this fall was literally a King with upgraded drive system and H8 head with a shortened C50 crane. It makes a guy think that the only difference on the giant is drive system and stronger boom fork on the C50+ that allows a bigger head. That hardly seems to justify an extra 45k over the king.
@@ponsseguy from what I was told by the salesman and rumors have it that giant has been in the states and in hiding for several months so they had one to show off. From what I understood it was to be disguised to look more like a king. The price given at the show was with the new H8, active crane, opti 5G, full reach crane, heavier base and wishbone. I was told it’s a whole new base/bearing on the new one. The big drive pumps etc. But at the end of the day, I still don’t think it’ll compare to the c5 in power, but could be surprising as well. The parallel cranes are configured so much different as far as where the power is. It’s all pulling where the C5 has great lifting power on top of swing and pulling with the extension. They now have the same line up with the ergo platform as the scorpion really. Cobra, ergo, bear. Scorpion, scorpion king, scorpion giant. I think that’s always been the goal with it but I’ll let other work out the weak links before I’d consider it.
@@TrophyMediaCo yeah I know the pricing was for all the good stuff, but it still seems like a lot of dough for what you're getting. But to me if they can get the lifting power up where it needs to be with the C50+, it's definitely a machine worth considering even at 70-80k over an Ergo. Also that new H8 looks promising. Just a few small things I think could be better on the current H8, and it looks like they're addressed on the new H8. Hopefully they put a demo together once they get a giant with the new H8, would really like to see it work.
what are your thoughts on the AF? Is it as fast as the leveling on the six wheel machines? Does it keep up to reasonable operating and do a good job? What about swing power? Still happy with it even without side leveling for the crane? Also curious what size feed motors you're running in the head
The active frame has been pretty lovely honestly, it a much more simpler concept then the 6w cab leveling and I think works better and on top of the machine being so much more stable then a 6w as well. Crane power is phenomenal if you’re comparing it to a scorpion, sure it can be a little funky in your on a bit of a side hill but that’s not common anyhow as you’re always trying to approach an incline at an even plane. I have H7 motors in my head.
Lookin good! What's your thoughts on this machine vs the Scorpion King?

Curious what you're seeing for fuel consumption?
