CLIP DESCRIPTION:
As a punishment for their betrayal, Lucian (Michael Sheen) is whipped and made to watch Sonja (Rhona Mitra) burn to death.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
The Underworld series gets the prequel treatment with this third outing that fleshes out the story of the ancient war between the vampiric Death Dealers and their wolfman counterparts, the Lycans. F/X technician Patrick Tatopoulos (Godzilla, Independence Day) steps out of the effects lab and into the director's chair with this entry, which sees stars Bill Nighy returning as Viktor, the king of his vampire clan and father to Sonja (Rhona Mitra), a free-minded heir who tests her parent by heading outside of their castle's borders and doing battle with the ravenous werewolves of the surrounding area. Sonja also has a secret love affair with Lucian (Michael Sheen), the first of the Lycans, a race of lycanthropes who were bred by the vampires to be slaves and protectors to the bloodsucking clan. As the news of their love spreads to Viktor, ranks of the vampire elite help Lucian escape, leading to a revolution of the Lycans against their masters and setting up the mythology of the later latexed adventures featured in Len Wiseman's two previous films.

Michael sheen did not get enough credit for his acting in this movie, it was phenomenal.
He doesn't get enough credit in general, and always ends up in relatively small roles because of it. It's so depressing because his talent is immense.

You can almost feel this man's anguish and pain watching his family getting burned alive. It made me and my dad tear up and sniffle so hard... He did a phenomenal job om this scene! Hell the whole movie at that!
Michael Sheen deserves an Oscar for this movie
His cries of anguish are so haunting. You can’t forget that she was pregnant as well. So he just watched his love and child die in front of him. It’s no wonder he does what he does. Michael is so fantastic.

Well he didn’t see his “child” die since it was still just a fetus.

That "no" at 2:15 haunts me. God, Michael Sheen is an amazing actor and should have won an oscar on his role of Lucian.
Oh no, go to a priest. 😮
He is good here, but not Oscar worthy...
2:23
Michael Sheen as Lucian was played remarkable, the scene where Lucian screams for her makes you wanna cry and become heartbroken. Props to Michael Sheen.
Still makes me cry everytime
You should hear his first no.
I did cry for 20 mins straight
Agreed
@@daniellee5147 that agonizing, anguished, heartbreaking scream of "SONYAAAAAA" just kills me little by little every time I watch that part
It's a pitty that Lucien was not the one, who killed Victor. Sure, Victor killed her family, but Lucien was enslaved, tortured, humiliated, he had to watch the love of his life die with his unborn baby. At least he treated her better than him, Lucien deserved to win.
In a manner of speaking he did win. He even stated before his death:
"You may have killed me, cousin. But my will is done, regardless!"
Too bad he was killed so easily in the second movie. He was more formidable in the first movie
When you know there is a law that u know u might be killed for disobeying it, then its lucian's fault.
At least he should have seen Victor's death
What you have to understand is that in Underworld 2003 Lucian is not the good guy. He is consumed by rage and hate. When he tell Selene to bite Michael to save him, it is not out of understanding. It is out of spite. He undouptedly knows that Selene and Vicktor are close. What he was thinking in that scene is "As I am dragged down to hell for all the sins and murders i've comitted I'll drag everything you held dear to your heart with me. Leaving you with nothing but a empty hollow mansion to call home" Through out that movie we see the atrocities he's comitted to find a bearer of the original Corvinus virus. No the Lucian we see in this film and Underworld are two different Lucians. This one is a honorable warrior who cares for his comrades. The other is a wild savage beast whos last strips of humanity have been stripped away. It would have been strange for the villian to defeat the Villian and then have th emovie end.
For those who still wonder why Lucian could not break the chains: He had silver darts in his back, poisoning his blood which makes it impossible for him to expel due to his weakened state. There's a reason why he's whipped.
When the moon rises again, it gives him the needed strength to push the darts out.
Oh okay.
I was actually wondering about that, thank you. That explains a lot, and makes it a lot sadder....
Not just that but he was younger therefore weaker and less experienced with his abilities
@anais rose i know miss
Ok thank you
Lucien screaming for Sonja after she dies 😭😭 this scene gives me so much chills. My heart breaks for him 😩

He even lost his unborn child
See Viktor is crying
His whimpered "no" at 2:15 got to me
He killed his own daughter only for his 2nd daughter to kill him plus who else wished Sonja got to meet Selene
selene isn't viktors daughter he killed her family and told her the lycans killed them and then turned her into a vampire
@Johnathon Davis very true... but the troops also found Selene hiding and were going to kill her but Viktor saw the resemblance of Sonja and couldnt bare to kill her so he decided to take her with them.
I do that would've been cool they could've teamed up against viktor
@@jyang0431 funny how he couldnt bare to kill her, but he did with his daughter rofl.
@@cautarepvp2079 I agree but I guess when the universe gives you another chance, you take it and thats what he did.
This man acting skills is beyond real. You can feel his pain . His acting is more real than reality.

agree
He should have won the Oscar 🔥🔥
And then one remembers he also plays Castor/Zuse in Tron Legacy and wonders: "How the hell did you go from that to that?!"
What makes this scene even sadder is not only is he witnessing the death of his one true love, he’s also witnessing the death of his unborn child. I remember the first time I watched this, I cried during this scene. Especially when he started screaming and I was in a room full of ppl trying to hide the fact that I was crying lol luckily it was dark but my sniffles were hard to cover up haha
Its not a child.. its just a clump of cells.
@@axe863 You're an idiot. Congratulations
@@axe863 Technically, it's not a child yet. But people who are excited about a pregnancy already think of it as a baby, which is human nature. If it dies before it's born they feel the same grief as any parent who loses a child. I don't blame them for it, nor would I try to diminish their feelings. As a person who's pro-choice, I honor someone's choice and it's not for me to judge. Which is exactly what I expect of other people.
axe863 the only one who can decide whether its a child or a clump of cell is the one who carry it. And Sonja acknowledge that it is her child. So yes. It’s a child.

I cannot watch this scene. His scream always pierced my heart.
Hell yeah
@@pyromuzique
My heart breaks every time I see this.
For me it wasn't just the screaming that hit. It's of course very tragic and I did cry a ton, but what really hurt was that frail "no" just before the light cracked. That frightened, begging plea of a man not ready to say goodbye to the love of his life. It's so scared, trembling and such a contrast to his more firm or loud "no"s previously. It breaks my heart to watch Lucian thrash trying to escape while Sonja desperately tries to steel herself so Lucian doesn't have to see her suffer or cower, even telling him she loved him and giving him a final good bye. Michael Sheen and Rhona Mitra were incredible, to me this is arguably the best movie out of the entire series

Sounds like what royal families did in the medieval era keeping the blood line pure (Inbreeding)

The only thing I hated about him was when he called his grandchild the abomination in his daughter's womb and considered the grandchild a threat to him and his coven. This is the greatest movie of Underworld series
That was just brutal. It's like Victor was not the true father to his daughter because fathers never kill their own daughters. He killed her and her unborn child. That's not the true father he was to Sonja. It's like the same way he killed Selene's family and treated her like a daughter but in the end, Selene realized he was not the real true savior because he lied to her. So in the end, she killed him to avenge her family.

I cried while watching the movie
michael sheen was the best cast choice of lucian, prove me wrong
I love how Kevin Grevioux kept this a traditionally Eurocentric and gothic horror yet still managed to organically infuse the reality of racism and social stratification. Those whipping scenes with lowly slave Lucian over a high-born vampire woman... you can tell a black man created this lore. And of course, co-creator Danny McBride is Irish, which means his forefathers were likewise despised by white Europeans and taken into captivity during the same era.

Robert Smith I think you're wrong in that context. This place was obviously built with vampire execution in mind, even the roof is design for it, why wouldn't they think of ways and method to restraint vampire too?
@@miserylovecompany7556 Well in that case then Viktor is really a sadistic bastard

The Underworld series of films were excellent, in all aspects: acting, dialogue, storyline, cinematography and music ... No need for a remake - as there's no room for improvement
So Aro was once a Werewolf. 😂 Volturi is going to kill him if they find out.😂
And then they'd have a few questions to ask when they found out he was a rabbit too 😂
Underworld is the best movie ever!!
It will be a major miracle if somebody who was working with the vampires kept a small portion of the blood of Sonja and Lucian and kept them purified over the centuries so they can create clones of them where they shall awaken in a world where Viktor is no longer alive and they would help Selene to destroy those who pose a threat to both vampires lycans and Humans.
I don't know, yes what Viktor did is unforgivable but he's still my favorite character in the Underworld universe
Took me a while to realize that it's actually Michael Sheen himself
