As one of the few players who actually mainly play for the exploration, combing through the whole area only to find like 2 chests and a bunch of mora-giving rock piles sucked alot. The werid part is that they added a bunch of QOL exploration aid like jumping mushrooms and wind updrifts + gliding boosting rings which funny enough lead to nothing
Makes me believe the team that designed the map layout and the one that sprinkles content on it were not communicating for the forest part of the expansion atleast

Nostoi region's playable area (Petrichor and underground Faded castle) was in itself very small (barely amounting to 2 - 2.5 times the size of Mondstadt CITY). But Sumeru expansion's landmass would have solved the problem even with the current tone down of the terrain there than what it used to be before release, IF they actually added content there like puzzles, enemies and World Quests.

  • @-libertyprimev1-902

I still think **some** people are making too big a deal out of this, it's not like this area is "empty" in the sense its got no puzzles or quests or NPCs... No it's EMPTY in the sense there is literally nothing there not even Animal Spawns or Mint, as well the terrain itself is even bland which no one seems to take notice of.
The fact it is THAT BASIC screams to me that this is just a placeholder which will be one of three things:
    A) Updated in a filler update later as a cooldown between 2 Major Quest/Event Updates.
    B) Will be slowly updated in chunks as Character Stories or events pass through.
    C) It'll have something to do with an underground area (maybe part of Khaenri'ah whenever that time comes) that explodes upwards revealing a Chasm like enterance which will teraform the entire area, and they didn't want to lay down chests or other permanent content to worry about overwriting later down the line.
As well it feels like their hand was forced when it came to making that part available, like they very well could've kept that area blank and Invisible Walled (which of course people would've also complained about), but then someone suggested that'd be too awkward and to just give it collision as well put the update on a sticky note for later...

Biggest issue is mostly that Genshin sold itself with the "exploration" aspect of its map.

I enjoy exploration. I was looking forward to the area and marked several hidden pathways to excitedly see where they would lead. Layla's village is north of Sumeru city and them not adding it means we continue the trend of really only having the main city as the hub of each nation (which is fine I guess but makes very little sense). Bayda harbor was talked about like it was super amazing and yet, it doesn't even make logistic sense as a trade route. I get that the *game* at each release interval wanted us to go a specific route but us going through the far end of the desert to get to Fontaine without being at a port that (in game) was open that whole time, makes no sense. I get that the patch wasn't about Sumeru, but as people have said, when they create connecting areas, they still add puzzles and chests. The ENTIRE rest of the map besides the stretch of water is all full of enemies, puzzles, and chests. Why release an area that is going to be so glaringly underdeveloped?
You can't even use the excuse of people hating on Sumeru desert so much. They hated it because they got "tired of the sand" and because they hate questing so unlocking full exploration is too tedious for them. The new area is quite literally worse than Sumeru desert for the people who complained because at there isn't even chests or additional elites for drops or anything to compensate for it. Again, why release it if this is what we were gonna get? Not like they're afraid of random holes/empty scoops in the map.
Now, when they release that bit right below Dvalin's lair or the small bit beside Arlecchino's boss domain (which is actually rendered but still has the red covering blocking you), we'll see if they do or don't add anything in terms of chests / enemies/ etc there. It's just disappointing and I don't think that it's invalid to be upset about it. Will just be adding it to my survey and moving on with my life

I talked about this area with a friend last time when the updates dropped, and now I kinda honestly am in the belief that they released this area as is as a preventive for those OOBing in there. I mean, if there's no place left to glitch through, then there's no reason for us to keep rediscovering how to get past Paimon in the borders right? (Which is kinda not possible since they have the entire map of unexplored fog to still go through. However I digress.)
It feels surreal in a way. This area was one of the places me and my OOBing friends have extensively explored even before Fontaine was as large as it was now, and, truthfully, seeing it released in this empty state also kinda makes me feel guilty somehow, albeit it's flatter and refined - you should have seen it behind the barrier - there were whole areas of grass domes in there and hollow trees, holes in the floor you can fall off into! It was trippy. These were places you would not have normally gone through but could, given the right combination of jumps, NPC interactions and units.
An empty map is still an empty map though, and walking around it has got me thinking... Is it our fault, I wonder? 🥺

Finally found my way by that harbor: I wasn't exploriing, it was just a convenient way to head in. I think this makes some sense in that it's an area we simply haven't "really been to yet". Not every single place on the map is really running along our great journey. This could become a convenient place to put events in the future.
As far as chests go, half a year ago I moved past the point at which I'll even go fifty feet to open a completely unprotected chest. I'm at the point where I want to sacrifice resources to resupply random chests or create new ones. A new area with no chests is no worse for me than an old area with no chests: it's calling for me to change that either way.

I agree with the waypoint issue about some of the previous teleport waypoints like the current petrichor waypoint, but i feel some of them, are useful for new players who have ended up pulling the characters that require material from that nation. I mean new users get a free waypoint at the edge of sumeru desert anyway for fontaine, they can use it to get down and take a boat to petrichor..there shouldn't have been any need for that one..even for new players.

I'm thinking that it is only empty for now. The golden slumber and dirge quests caused dramatic changes to the map in the desert during the quests. It is highly likely that something will go there, since I doubt that they will leave a large space like that entirely empty permanently.

If I recall correctly, wasn't Bayda Harbour meant to be a desert port? It's just disappointing to see the north of Sumeru being half-assed (or even quarter-assed), but I understand that Arle and Remuria were the focus of the patch. tbf I also felt the same when the north of Mawtiyima Forest was added on Chenyu Vale's debut, and how empty it was. A hilichurl tribe, some fungi and some other things could have been added there too, but alas, nothing.
I'm still holding onto some hopium for the debut of Cyno's SQ2 to add something new to Sumeru and fill it in, but it's not much. I'm pretty sure they're capable of adding new content later, like in the summer events, but then I imagine there could be a few complicated things to deal with (based on my limited understanding).
If nothing, hopefully events can fill the void.

There are random arse places, that are hard to get to, and even there we can find animals or hilichurls or eremites or treasure hoarders. Now we have all this land, and its like there is an invisible forcefield that is stopping them from getting on to it. Like why wont there be more camps here? Why wont there be any trace of civilization there? It is practically on the opposite side of fontaine, that is an important trade route, just Bayda harbour there is not enough, there needs to be a small settle meant there..maybe not as big as yilong wharf but something other than two buildings and 7 boats. It just broke my immersion lol.

To be honest the way Genshin players have been complaining about having to explore the desert and how so much desert ruin the game for them I’m not surprised they made it so you really don’t even need to go to this new part of the desert. They just put it there to have an arbour type area at the edge of the water so it doesn’t look weird on the map

on the pronunciation of Mondstadt: The German way to pronounce it would be what you said later "Mondshtadt" with a hearable sh sound (in German sch = sh in English, however if there is an st it's pronounced sht), e.g. Street in German is Strasse but pronounced Shtrasse. Star in German is Stern but pronounced Shtern, etc.

  • @TamerChris
    @TamerChris Před měsícem

Maybe they did that because it won't change the exploration percentage. Imagine adding 10-20 chests and reducing your perfect 100% to few less.
Sure the 100% doesn't necessarily mean all chests are collected, but it's not an area that they want people to specifically go and explore (as Petrichor and Remuria are the focus).

As a "crying Sumeru fanboy" aka exploration enjoyer, my biggest issue isn't the lack of chest. I don't care about primogems that much. It is the fact that there is nothing, and I mean NOTHING there. Not even signs of life.
Like, if you design an open world, you have to make it believable: You either put signs of life, like an abandonded camp or if you don't want to then provide environmental clues as to why it is inhospitable. This screams of "The map design team forgot about this in the map editor...oopsie".
Always remember the CD Project RED (developers of Witcher 3) motto: "In a good open-world game there should always be something to see/do every 40 seconds of exploration". (even if it doesn't lead to primogems)

I'm gonna reiterate what I made a comment about on this guy's original video: The automatically unlocked waypoints are not for everyone, but it's a good thing they exist and they are not the problem nor a symptom of a problem. Some people just do not like to explore as much, or they want to get to the areas they want to get to, or they're new or returning players who came back for characters like Lyney, Neuvillette or Furina, Navia, Cloud Retainer, or Arlecchino, whose boss mats in particular aren't that far from the waypoints. If you like to explore and walking there is how you're immersed, by all means you can ignore the waypoint. It's not for you. Genshin just likes to cast their net wide, and that's why they've been such a successful game. All of that said, yes it was extremely lazy to not have anything in the Sumeru areas of the maps. It's just two completely different things in my mind.

    Part of my perspective is:
What are new players going to think of it after this update? They're not gonna know this area of Sumeru was added in the same update as Remuria, so they're not gonna have the perspective of "Well, at least they also added Remuria in the same patch." They're gonna be used to the exploration having a ton of stuff everywhere they look, but then they walk over to that area and find barely anything. It just feels weird.
And yeah, for the complaint that you could just teleport straight to the island, I agree that if you don't wanna teleport to it, then don't. I teleported to Vanarana, walked to the port, then boated to the island for maximum immersion.
And thank you editor, for cutting out the Natlan spoilers.
