I agree, there are some lyrics that definitely have a more intimate connotation, but he wanted it to be about a family, so that does include his mom, who had to grow up without the father figure. He had eight siblings and his mom had to raise them alone. It’s one of the most excruciating and beautiful songs, don’t you think?

It's been only two years I know this song. First listened to it on American got talent sang by a young man who lost his best friend. I searched for it and since then, a day can't go by without me listening to it and 😭 at same time. This is really a master piece not only feeling the words but feeling the emotions it comes with.
