I grew up in Montreal and can confirm that she was, as reported, a very sociable and popular girl. She was also shallow, self-absorbed and vapid. Popularity and image were as central to her personality as they appear to be today. Despite her bubbly demeanour, nobody viewed her as smart or perceptive or visionary in any sense. Which just proves how the "content of your character" is no longer the true measure of your value to mankind.
