      The odd thing is is that they use the actual rigs for the show's filming in between calls , and they use the real sirens in the trucks it's just the cameras that are used that cause them to sound different. During the filming of the TV show they have very little time to film before the real guys have to run off with the rigs.

    • @austinlawler3739
      @austinlawler3739 Před 5 lety +2

      @@josephbennett3482 not all are used by the real CFD. Engine 51 is a fake Luvern, it is actually a Pierce with a fake front. That was bought by the production company. Squad 3 was an active spare, but they bough a suburban squad that was being sold, and repainted it. The only one I can think of that might be in use as an active spare is the Seagrave. At one time, yes they were all active spares used in filming, but none were ever front line apparatus for the CFD.

    • @josephbennett3482
      @josephbennett3482 Před 5 lety +2

      @@austinlawler3739 yes they are all main units that are used for the show there is a behind the scenes video of the show and the production crew and the department both say that they have to film quickly before another call goes out. The only thing that is fake is the stations on the show , that building is artificial.

    • @xenomorphproductions2295
      @xenomorphproductions2295 Před 5 lety +2

      The trucks seen in Chicago fire are not only old spares and the such, as someone else pointed out.
      These current trucks with CFD use the Federal Signal EQ2b An electric version of the mechanical Q2b siren which to my knowledge was phased out of CFD usage due to noise pollution in the downtown area.
      The sirens used in Chicago fire sound like old Code-3/Federal signal sirens, perhaps even updated/older smart sirens.
      Which given my thoughts on the age of the trucks in Chicago fire would explain some things.

      It goes back to the 1920s, when Albert Goodrich was named fire commissioner. The scion of a family who owned a steamship line that operated on the Great Lakes, his heart was always partly on the water. To honor his maritime roots, he dictated that all Chicago firehouses display a green light on the left and red on the right, just as harbor entrances are lighted, and later this tradition was carried over to apparatus, with a red light on the port (left, from the con) side and green on the starboard (right).
