    I'm glad you made this video! I'm trying to learn as much as I can about this process before tackling it on my vehicles next spring. This is the exact situation I could see myself ending up in, being a little heavy handed with the spray... It is great to see how quickly it can be fixed to perfection. BTW that polishing of the vehicle looks absolutely phenomenal as well!! I'll have to add that 6" polisher to my Xmas list!

    I've done this a couple of times. Good old tar remover pretty much melted the coating off because it hadn't really set properly. In UK we have Autosmart who sell tardis and I use this in a pump sprayer.

    Great video but I also been doing headlight restoration for years and also use Meguiars. If you ever mess up you actually don’t have to sand it to get off. I use the same compound that I buff with to remove it. It comes right off with no issues in a couple of minutes. After I clean up the residue I recoat the light
    and it always comes out perfect. Give a try sometime and you’ll same time by not having to sand again. On another note your on point saying there is no permanent solution. 2k is actually the worse when it goes bad and a nightmare to remove.

    I just tried the Meguiar's 17804 for the first time. The overspray error seen in this clip is easy to make. I kind of did this on my first lens, but the other lens was better. I think it's easy to allow the strokes to last a fraction of a second too long. The spray should consist of short, conservative strokes. For anyone interested, the spray works fine in cold weather.

    Which polish compound did you use to fill in the poly lens before you apply the clear? Looks like it’s at the 8:42 time mark. Your description lists 3M hard lens cleaner and Chemical guys headlight restorer. I’m a bit confused as to which product was used specifically to fill in the micro scratches left behind by the sandpaper

    I used your technique to restore headlights on my 2014 Silverado and it came out great, thanks!
    I did however get just a few slight drips like you corrected in this vid, but my clear coat has already cured. Honestly it’s not bad enough to make me want to redo the light, I figure I’ll just correct it when I have to redo the light again in a year or two.
    The meguairs coat states it lasts for a year, at that point or when it fades do you recommend just replacing the clear like in this video or do you need to get back into the plastic headlight again as well?
    Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience!

    warming the light before application will make it smoother with less orange peel and will dry faster.

    • @theheadlightrestorationpro
      @theheadlightrestorationpro  Před 8 měsíci

      No no no.... Not with this method and is unnecessary when doing headlight restoration... As long as you're using headlight restoration products... This is a zero Orange Peel product that dries with air (oxygen exchange) not heat.... I hear what you're saying but that's for stuff that's not designed for headlights.(totally different methods like wet sanding maybe).. With this method typically the light is warm enough through all the working and dry sanding and polishing...czcams.com/video/h-8BKUEVGRY/video.htmlsi=h5-Yw-Ntzrbp7OYG

    • @theheadlightrestorationpro
      @theheadlightrestorationpro  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Theoretically you can almost do have the restoration throughout the life of the vehicle... You only going to need another restoration every other year or even further even if you needed it every single year if you have a skilled professional that knows how much to remove which most cases would just be the clear coat you're talking 25- 40 headlight restoration Restorations estimate... Literally no vehicles going to be on the road for more than 20 years more than likely that would be 10 or less headlight Restorations....

    This is exactly what happened to me. Thanks for showing that you're only human. You're thoughts on wipe on vs. the can sprayer?

    • @theheadlightrestorationpro
      @theheadlightrestorationpro  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Wipe on is inferior to anything spray...
      Any wipe it on is adulterated unpure..
      Always leave streets even if you don't see them right away uneven cohesiveness and typically too thin of application ... Little tiny fibers and things like that left behind from the pad used to put it on... Spray is very surgical and clean unadulterated there's no in between it just goes straight on and forms a perfect shell... Most anything made for headlights that is spray is going to be better.. this is also what the factor uses for many reasons it's just a superior method of application.. could you imagine wiping on clear coat on a vehicle,.. or wiping on paint....lol

  • @yuvalkapellner2551
    @yuvalkapellner2551 Před rokem +1

    i coated mine but i realized there is a problem with the this coating. it creates some granularities that act like diffusive layer and the as a result smoothens the light pattern by increasing its dispersion rather then keeping it sharp like it comes from the factory when the car is new!. so the result is not restoring it to a condition identical to that of a new lamp. i guess the only way to fix it is to follow orange peel removal approach just like doing to paint by using denim pad to level it. this is what i intend to do, hopefully it will increase clarity of the cover to factory level.

    • @theheadlightrestorationpro
      @theheadlightrestorationpro  Před rokem +1

      Well you must be doing something wrong...
      You see my end results are perfect every single time...and night vision is enhanced by far...no orange peel and no need to polish...(if you don't follow what I do and use what I use yes your lights are going to be sub-par )
      This is the best coating out..hands down...this was more than likely an operation and or application error..
      Further more..
      You've seen how much clarity I get with my finished product....no factory light actually functions better than my finished product...that is why the lights look so much better than the day they rolled off the lot...(the lighting is most definitely enhanced) the problem is simple, most people don't follow directions...I'm showing perfection..so why try to change the process... it's a mathematical - scientific process that I've performed on over a 1000 lights and like 3 dozen videos..

    I finally extensively Sanded my 2004 Toyota headlights. Previously to that, a >FINE, polish, yearly, seamed OK.... after getting them really clear, i sprayed on a clear coat, only to have it extensively fog & then crackle- apparently I'd put on a clear coat b/4 Lacquer & varnish, don't mix. Now, the BRAND NEW ones look GREAT..L0L

    @kennywiebusch1586 Před 11 měsíci +1

    Hey Pro, I found that is comes right off with alcohol just like is says on the can. Seriously I put some on way too heavy and it did strange things as it dried. It may have been to hot as the can had been in the sun. It took some rags but was much easier that sanding. Still had to buff it some for clarity.

    • @theheadlightrestorationpro
      @theheadlightrestorationpro  Před 11 měsíci +1

      You'll never obtain the clarity doing that guaranteed as I have tried this before many times it only works on thin coats so you probably had too thin of a coat even though you thought it was heavy.. my coats are super thick the proper way to apply them are super thick it will not work on a dried surface on slight over spray and stuff like that all day..
      Also you'd be doing the headlight a disservice even if it did come all the way off the alcohol is going to react with the polycarbonate and or other stuff and really fuck up your clarity also it goes under coding even though it's off the surface it's not off those porous environments.. so that's what they tell you and that's what you do but it doesn't really come all the way off much better to start off trust me I am a professional who has done well over a thousand headlights probably with just this product alone..
      It might have seemed to work but your product should be a lot better than what it is I'm sure..
      And when you're a professional and striving for the highest level of results you can accept this because I know from experience it will not be no matter what you do you have to take it back down this is bullshit spewed upon the public just to make it easier to use for people and they know most people won't be professionals will just be happy because their headlights better not perfect...
      Did it look like this?
      That's probably why..👇🏽

    Let's say in 6, 7 or however many years when the Meguiar's coating needs to be redone, will it come off quick like your redo or will it pretty much have to be the whole restoration process? And also I think I know the answer to this question but should I wait for the springtime to do my headlights? Temps are getting down to 40 and could go lower.

    • @theheadlightrestorationpro
      @theheadlightrestorationpro  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Whatever it does go bad that you want to replace it it comes off even easier than shown in this video because it has been sitting and have have time to fully cure this is just the initial here which still a little gummy when you're removing.. it's super easy to remove once it's lived its full life or past the secondary curing...
      Forest temperatures thats what this is about...

    I found a way to fix this easily but it has to be quick, I now carry a bottle of acetone and a rag with me right beside me when I spray it saved me now two times, I know ideally you don’t want this happening but when it does acetone wipes this stuff off if wiped up to 5 minutes after spraying and give it a polish, I also make sure to put acetone on the rag then wipe, also if anyone does this make sure to wipe the acetone off with the glass cleaner afterwards because I found that it messes with the new clear coat getting sprayed on, lol found out and had to respray twice the first time I tried with acetone.

      No the spray Max 2K is a terrible product to use for headlights even if it's the one that says for headlights they're pretty much the exact same just what has a little bit more UV repellent.. anything that has a hardener like that is just terrible product and not meant for headlights no matter what they say. It's actually the worst thing you can put on headlights to cake there in general butt spray Max is definitely the worst out of all of them.. what I use is far superior and much much better for headlight restoration and headlights... If you want more information about it check out the link in the bio... Also it's used in every video The clarity is unmatched it's the most amazing have my product out there ..

      Doesn't work that way... You have a less than perfect light that you can visibly see where the run was.. and I only deal with perfection especially as doing this professionally I can't consciously sell somebody an inferior product it's not good business... And no matter what you do no matter how good you think you are or how easy it is or whatever you will be able to tell that it was there...
