The series of my visit to my home town is Doda Gandoh is here.
The villages in Jammu are hidden gems. These are the places to visit in Jammu, Jammu, and Kashmir. People always visit some famous places in Jammu and Kashmir but believe me these places are truly mesmerizing. If you happen to visit Jammu do visit Gandoh Bhalessa. Sometimes we also call it Bhaderwah. #Gandoh #bhalessa #bhaderwah #bhaderwahvlog

Great series to take me down the memory lane to a place I consider the most beautiful valley in the Himalayas. I lived here in a time when you had to walk either via Bash Dhar or from Tathri. Life in those days was tough but wholesome. My dad was doctor posted to Gandoh and tirelessly served the people of the valley who he loved. I had so many positive experiences living there. Our house was a single story house attached to the Gandoh Dispensary which was above the main footbridge. I returned a few times as an adult and was always surprised how people still remembered our family. I am sure some older folks still remember my dad. Since the terrorism era I didn't return and then I moved to Canada. I would love to pay a visit to revive my childhood memories. One family was of Sh. Dayaram Goswami who worked at the dispensary should be around. Anyway great to see your videos. My dad's name was Dr. (Capt) Dayal Singh incase it helps revive some memories of some of the older people. Any contact would be welcome. Originally we are from Jammu. Love to hear from you.
I am filled with mixed emotions.. Happy that my videos are reaching far and helping the people connect their childhood and their past.. Your father have helped many locals and their bond must be immense.. I will surely try to connect with the locals in the area u lived on my next visit once this Pandemic situation is under control..

@@NeenaParihar Thanks for your reply. I dream of returning someday and visiting. We first arrived in Gandoh over the Bash Dhar in 1960 with a train of 30 horses. Some for riding, many with our household and rest with medical supplies. It took us two days with a stopover in Jai. I also remember when a leopard jumped from the forest over the horse that my mom and me were riding. It was a long time. My mom though also working as a nurse with my dad had to settle to simple living from her life in Jammu with no electricity or running water but we made it home and made it comfortable. My dad was retired from the army and was 60 but that didn't stop him from visiting every village of the valley and bringing medical help to the people. He was very dedicated. No younger doctor agreed to be posted to Gandoh but my dad excepted the post. I still remember all the patients who used to come with bear attacks during the harvest season. Yes in those days bears used to come down to the fields around Gandoh. As a child many locals took care of me that included the Hindu families and the Gujjars. I can never forget Shera the Gujjar who was so kind to me and Dayaram who always took me to his fields when I was unhappy. My older brothers were sent to boarding schools in Punjab but I stayed there for the entire time. The foundations and lessons I got there were the best. It made me a successful teacher and a mountaineer with skills learned from the local village children. I am so glad to be in touch with some one from this valley. Please pass on my best wishes to your parents and I hope they may have heard about our family being part of the fabric of Gandoh in its simpler days.

My God!.... I stayed in that place for like 2 years amazing place. People are humble, calm and help. Village name are so cute.. Kako, Neeli, Chilli,Shalala, gwalo, gwadi, Dosa... Best time. No clash. Just peace.
