The SRT 101 was my first film camera, and I loved it. Built like a tank and easy to repair, and it’s the direct reason I have an abiding and unwavering love for Minolta cameras and lenses, to the point where almost all the digits photography I do these days is done using Minolta manual focus MD lenses adapted to my Fuji X-T30.
Great review of the SRT-101. I have one that I keep around because of the mirror lock up. I also regularly shoot the later SR-T 201 that lost one of the two CDS cells in the update, but gains the wonderful Acute-Matte focusing screen. It's a fantastic camera.
Great review of a great camera. I have two of the SRT Supers, one silver and the other black. They're my goto film cameras when I want to do serious work, but they're just as good when using them for fun :D Just picked up a Minolta 50mm Macro lens for them, so I can start using them for macro shoots.
Great review. Doing photography with mechanical camera is really joyful. I had srt 100x and the shutter speed gets trouble and all speed fires at one speed then i bought srt303b that is really amazing with film holder and lockable dof preview button. I use hearing aid 1.45 volt battery with 2/3 iso adjustment and it works perfectly for me .
Without taking some parts off the camera, it can be a little hard to lubricate anything which is sticky. Sometimes just dry firing the camera a number of times will loosen it up and make it work more easily.
On my SRT 101, after shooting a roll and pressing the sprocket release, when I start to rewind the film there is high resistance from the take-up spool. It almost "clicks" every 1/8th turn or so while I am unwinding it. Is this something I should be concerned about or do you know how I could repair it?
My SRT rewind system certainly feels different. I don't think mine has any resistance but it definitely feels like there are ball bearings inside which kinda feels good.
Great video! I just bought one.. it's my very first film camera! Forgive me because I am just starting out but the lens you have, it says "auto" on it.. I came across one of those on ebay that was a great price for a 35mm f2.8 and wasn't sure if it would be ok to use with my srt101 so I bought one without the "auto" on it (sadly, a much higher price).. could you please tell me the difference? Thank you so very much!
It’s also important to remember that the SRT 101 and its various versions was made from 1966 to 1981, so make sure you do a little research to find the right one for you. Rokkorfiles has a great article on the various versions of the SRT series of cameras that details all the differences.
No, pal. The 101 was produced from 1966 to 1976, not 1981. There was 3 versions, all with just minor changes that wont really affect the performance of the camera. As far as I know, even versions with different names like the SRT 101b, were the same as the others, and the name was just a regional change for some european markets. (Even the article from Rokkor files you mentioned says the same).
Bought mine in 1971 right after I got out of the Marine Corp and was a great first SLR that served me well for years after.
just got mine today ! bliss to use ❤❤
Excellent presentation of camera .
I got one of those! Classic.
Great videos!

what batteries do you use? I'm picking up my Minolta srt 101 soon.
You need to get Wein cells. They run at 1.35V, so your light meter will work if you get them.

@@issacchen5394 yeah on the actual rewinding knob it is super smooth, but the film take up spool is what's sticking for me

So I'm using a 625 battery and the meter doesn't work after some time, could I possibly still shoot photos without any problems?
Battery is only used for metering. In camera metering is not needed for using the camera.
